Random Words Short Story

The next assignment I created and completed was the writing assignment, Short Story With Random Words and Animal(s). The goal of this assignment is to utilize 10 random words, and a random animal of your choice to develop a short story or poem. It could be about anything, it just needs to include the words and the animal. My first step was to generate my 10 random words, and here they are:

  1. dry
  2. free
  3. bike
  4. groaner
  5. sparkler
  6. bootlegger
  7. production
  8. code
  9. red
  10. buzz

A very wide array of words to say the least. The next step, was to choose my animal for this assignment. The animal I chose was a tiger. Now that I’ve got everything I need, time to write my story. Oh boy, this is gonna be rough.

Rick and Buzz

Once upon a time, there was a bootlegger named Rick. Rick was a thief filming movies illegally for money. He was a hustler, he did nothing for free. Rick lived near Death Valley, California. An area named very ironically for this story. It was late on a thursday and Rick was about to start his production of a new movie. He was to break into a local theater downtown and film the movie, a source of his had helped him with information. Rick didn’t have a car so he rode his bike across town. The town was so dry and hot that Rick was quickly getting exhausted. Halfway into his ride, the chain snapped on Rick’s bike, leaving him to walk the rest of the way. Rick was a groaner, complaining nonstop, but he knew he must continue on. He continued to trek through the desert. There were no street lights, the only light Rick had was a couple of sparklers from last 4th of July in his backpack. After rick ran out of sparklers, he continued to walk and walk. He walked for what seemed like an eternity until he saw a dim red light in the distance. He approached the light at a building, finding a side entrance that deemed vulnerable. The side required a simple turn lock code. Luckily for Rick, he had bolt cutters in his backpack. He cut the lock and entered slowly. Following down the hall and entering the 3rd door on this left, just as his source had told him. Rick was incredibly tired, at this point he wanted to get in and get out. The room was incredibly dark, Rick slowly felt around the room to assess his surrounding when he came across fur. He then heard breathing…, snarling, and that would be the last thing Rick would hear. Rick had thought he was in a local theater containing the newest summer blockbuster. Little did he know he was in the city zoo. In the cage of Buzz the Tiger, where he would meet his demise. Moral of the story, don’t bootleg movies. The end.

Overall, this was pretty difficult. Writing this story and using all the words of such broad meanings was not easy. It really made me open my mind to help develop the story. Personally, I think I did a good job of developing a good story. Although it didn’t have much depth it still was very on point and consistent throughout. If you’d like to check out the assignment you can find it here. Other than that, I hope you guys enjoyed. Til next time everyone!
