Assignment Idea

Every Hour Vlog

For one day, take a short video during every hour you’re awake, and then string the clips together to create a montage. The goal is to make a complete video that gives the person watching a full picture of your day. Experiment with video production and be creative! Try out different transitions, visuals, etc.

This assignment is based off of Jordan Taylor’s videos—check them out if you need some inspiration! (Note: in each Every Hour Vlog, Jordan filmed every hour on the hour. You don’t need to be quite as strict as that, but make sure you get at least one clip every hour.)

BIG EYES

Make the eyes twice as big

Back to Basics!

Design doesn’t NEED to get difficult or require brain power! Have fun with it and be creative! Maybe use a couple design principles if you’d like but for this assignment I want you to time travel back to your childhood OR maybe even the now if you still play! Hop on a game like Mincrecraft or other free world games that allow building and design your very own Cottage, Tiny House, or even a mansion if you want to go all out! This should be fun and relaxing but still put some effort in! Enjoy!

(try building in full survival if you have the time and want the challenge)

The “Vogue Challenge”

For this assignment, I was inpired by Carson Berrier’s “Creat A Magazine Cover” assignment. It reminded me of the time I did the “Vogue Challenge” on Instagram a couple of months ago. The steps for this process are easy, first make sure you have and Instagram account, then proceed to take some really cool pictures, either with your phone or a camera. Then email the photo to yourself, download it and head of to Instagram. Make sure the photo has good lighting and your image is clear. Go to story section of instagram and edit your photos from your gallery. Make sure you put “Vogue” at the top in the “Times New Roman” font, add a caption or headline, and you’re ready to go!

Create a ds106 radio bumper

Now that we have a #ds106 radio up and running creating a 15 to 30 second bumper for the station. What is a bumper? It is a short recording that identifies the radio station with signature music or an expression that makes sure the listeners know what they are tuned into (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumper_(broadcasting)). So for ds106 it should certainly include “DS106 Radio” and some sort of message about the station with voice over music.

Sound Effects Story

Tell a story using nothing but sound effects. There can be no verbal communication, only sound effects. Use at least five different sounds that you find online. The story can be no longer than 90 seconds. Another example (by a UMW student): http://ds106.us/wp-content/audio/audio_story.mp3

Create an Interactive progam

Create an interactive program that consists of 100-200 lines of code. Make sure that the viewer can interact with it. This could be something like an animated Illusion or a program that adds a circle every time you click. Feel free to use an online compiler to write and test your code.

Spooky Season

Within this assigment, you must find some spooky sounds and create a scary audio clip. Select more than four sounds and overlap them on a program like Audacity. You can use Freesound to select your sounds. Make them as spooky as possible. Good luck!

For Fido

Your pet(s) can understand you perfectly for the next 5 minutes! Use this chance to tell them anything and everything you want them to understand. Our fluffy, scaly, and feathery companions do a lot for us. Maybe it’s a letter of appreciation! Do they get into the trash too much? Maybe your letter explains some rules they need to follow. Bonus points if you unclude a picture of your pet(s)!

Interview Yourself

Each year since 2017 Vanity Fair interviews Billy Eilish, and in many ways it is an introspective in which she is talking to her former self as the years go on. I hope when you’re reading this they are still doing them! But now it’s your turn. The first part is easy, make a list of questions you want to aks yourself, turn on the camera and hit record. A year from now, take the same questions and record yourself answering them again. Feel free to edit in responses from the previous year and even reactions to those previous answers. As the years go on perhaps you’ll learn more about yourself and who you are becoming.
