This week we were to complete 12 stars worth of Mashup Assignments and 2 Remix Assignments on the Assignment Bank site.
Mashing Friends and Emojis
For this assignment we were to take a picture of one of our friends or just a person that is in the moment doing something exactly like an emoji and then mash them together for comparison. For this assignment I had one of my friends pose like one of his most used emoji. I put the two photos next to one another for comparison using Collage Maker. This assignment is worth 4 stars.
A Changing Character
For this assignment we were to find a famous person and use clips to show a metamorphous…. a change in their career… on clip at the beginning of their career and one clip at the most recent image. I used iMovie to create this assignment… I also converted the two clips from YouTube using a mp4 converter tool. I used Miley Cyrus’ career for this assignment because I believe her career has changed so much from the beginning till now. This assignment is worth 3 stars.
REMIX
“Stache it”
For this remix card.. there was a urban dictionary definiton of a mustache and says to add a mustache to something that is something you care a lot about… I care a lot about dogs and this image looked perfect for this Remix.
For this remix card we were to use the assignment itself… making a collage of your favorite animal… and turn it into a advertisement for ds106 radio. I used Collage Maker for this assignment and added dogs as my favorite animal and a image of the ds106 radio station poster in a collage.
I just realized I hadn’t done my tutorial yet when- lo and behold! I see there’s no tutorial for the assignment I just completed! And it’s still fresh in my brain! Sign from God.
First, you need to download the 4k Video Downloader. Google “4k video downloader” and click on the second link down. It should take you to a page that looks like the one below. Clink on the button that says “Get 4K Video Downloader”.
It should start to download immediately. Click on the box on the download bar so that it opens when it’s finished downloading.
While you’re waiting on that, it’s time to pick out your clip. Go to YouTube and type in the scene you want to mash.
Next, you’re going to copy the URL of the video.
Hopefully, 4K Downloader will have finished by this point, because then you’re going to open up 4K and click “Paste Link”. It takes it directly out of your clipboard– all you have to do is click the button.
Next, select your video quality and hit “download”.
Now, open up Movie Maker (which I’m pretty sure should already be downloaded to a PC… right? If not, download it from the Microsoft website.) Once MovieMaker is open, click “Add videos and photos”.
To edit… click on “edit”.
Once there, hit the trim tool.
Use the slidey bars to trim, and hit “save trim” when finished.
Now, rinse and repeat for the rest of your clips. When you’re ready to save, go to “File”, then “Save movie”. DO NOT CLICK SAVE PROJECT. It won’t save your movie in the right format for uploading! Just click on the recommended settings, it’s fine.
Then, assuming you have a vimeo account (if not, get one), go to the homepage and upload! (I wouldn’t use YouTube, if only for possible copyright issues.) You’re done!
Part of the reason I like fall so much is because from October to December we have my 3 favorite holidays!
Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. So Candy, Food, and Presents. What can be more magical than that? Answer: nothing.
To make this mashup masterpiece I consulted google to find many different clipart pictures. I wanted things to blend a bit so I decided to have Halloween just be the background. I then photoshopped my turkey and placed him dead center. Christmas time is the best time so I used more Christmas decorations. I decorated the Hallowthankmas tree with a star and other goodies. Tada! The most spoopy thankful and wonderful time of year.
Did you see Santa? It just blends so well.
This assignment required a mashup of a character and to show their development throughout the show that they are in. I decided to go with Bran Stark from the HBO show Game of Thrones. First, I looked up scenes that included him from all six seasons. I then uploaded them to Windows Movie Maker and began editing the videos to show the best parts as well as to not included too many spoilers. But most importantly, I wanted to capture moments that shows the progression of the character. I was considering muting the audio and including a song, but really liked some of the dialogue so I decided against it. This took lots of editing but I finally managed to make the video pretty short. I gave this assignment 4 stars because it was time consuming and I have now masted the trimming and splitting tool.
This assignment was tricky in part because finding two scenes that worked well together took a good while. The assignment specified being as subtle as possible so that’s what I aimed to do. I looked up a bunch of movie scenes on Youtube and went through them. I finally decided on a scene from the film Dazed and Confused. It’s where they just let out of school for summer and the guys are just cruising around. I chose this still because it had some sky in the background that I could possibly add something to. I then chose a scene from another movie and cropped a piece of it and added it to this scene. I gave this assignment 4 stars because finding the right images and editing (cropping, scaling, layering) took some time. Can anyone guess what prop and movie it is? Hint: H. Potter.
For this assignment I had to take three holidays and create a photo that combines them. The remix that got paired up with this was called pretty in pink. That means I just need to add pink to the final product. I used the holidays Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas because they are my favorite and fallow one another.
The purpose of this assignment was to mash two an image and text together to make a new image. The remix that I used on this assignment was to include a Dr. Seuss character. I figured the best character to use was the Cat in the Hat because he is very recognizable. I really liked this photo of him and wanted to pair it with a common phrase I use.
I made this separately last week upon the release of the new Wonder Woman trailer, but it appears to fit this assignment, so I thought I’d share it with you all anyway. I used CyberLink PowerDirector to edit together scenes from the first season of the original Wonder Woman series (starring Lynda Carter). The audio from the new trailer is layered over this footage. The result is a pretty sweet mashup of our two Wonder Women.
Take 2 actors and mash them together into one photo. You can use Photoshop or Pixlr to do this. Make sure that they look like they belong in their setting and they look like they were actually together when the photo was taken (the colors match, the sizing is right, etc). Have fun with it!
