Silly dogs!

This assignment was to create a 5 second frame. Here I created a film, debuting my dogs! One thing my parents do not like that I do with them, is feed them human food. One day at dinner, I told my parents I taught them to eat corn off the cob. They didn’t believe me, so we proved it!

Process:

I recorded the videos on my phone and then uploaded them to iMovie.

Once they were in iMovie I trimmed them both to make the video under 5 seconds. Then I decided to put some background music, to make it a little more interesting. I added Neon, which was already preloaded in iMovie. Then I hit share to vimeo!

Movie Scenes

To this day my favorite films are the ones that I liked as a kid especially “Matilda,” “Harriet the Spy,” and “The Little Princess” (no surprise that these were also all books as well.)  I chose 3 scenes from these movies that really demonstrate why they are my favorite and why they resonated so much with me then, and also now.

Maybe it seems silly to some people for little kid movies to be “the movie scenes that changed my life,” but I believe these really did! And I believe that I truly am the person I am today, partially, because of these movies.

Difficulty: 5 stars

Movie Scenes That Changed my Life

For this Movie Scenes that Changed Our Lives- Video Assignment by Annie Belle, I selected scenes from 3 movies… October Baby, Sweet Home Alabama, and A Walk to Remember. These scenes that I chose changed my outlook on life.

MovieSceneMontage – Click once for another page then click again for the video in your choice of player(:  until you can open the file(:   (Explanation for not embedding at bottom)

The first scene is from October Baby. In this scene the main character is talking with a Catholic priest about her twin brother, whom she didn’t know she had. She speaks about his loss and her possibly failing at her life. She feels she doesn’t belong. I chose to blog about this scene because I feel as though I can’t completely relate to what she is going through… but I know I have felt many times during my life that I wasn’t living to my full potential. In that, I need to live every day like it’s my last. Because of this scene I am truly more grateful for every breath I take.

Oh my gosh… my heart melts every time I watch the second movie scene. This scene is from the movie, Sweet Home Alabama, which is one of my all time favorite movies. In the end this opening scene, the main character’s younger self asks the childhood boy friend why he would want to marry her… to kiss her any time he wants. This scene is just too darn cute and anyone with a heart would recognize how silly the scene is but also appreciate the intention of the younger boy in making his point. I just love this scene and had to include it in my movie video montage(:

In the next quick scene from October Baby, there is a line that stood out to me so much that it is now my go-to saying… “Hate the crime, not the criminal”  Those are not just empty words… I was blown away at this point in the movie, the girl’s birth  mother wanted her dead and this police officer was giving her the best advice one could ever give. I live by this saying now. There are so many moments in life when it’s just easier to hate the criminal but there is a higher power within us to overlook the criminal and just hate the crime done.

In this next scene also from the movie, October Baby, comes a powerful scene about forgiveness. We all need forgiveness every day of our lives. I completely lost it when I was watching this scene. The sincerity of the preacher’s voice and message was just so powerful and I feel as though this scene spoke directly towards me.

The dock scene is from the movie, A Walk to Remember. In this movie the main character is dying of cancer. She has a heart of gold. Her faith brings her to say whatever she feels and knows. She wants the co-main character to believe in everything so bad. This scene just represents the truths to be told. I live by my faith and help to guide my friends and family to do the same.

In the ending scene of October Baby, I was crying. The emotional impact it had on me was severe. I felt every emotion the characters played out. The main character finally was able to thank her dad for wanting her… wanting her.. can you imagine? What a great love. This movie is a definite must see for all those ready, able, and willingly to step up in their lives.

To wrap up my video montage I chose to end on a humorous note with the first part of the opening scene of Sweet Home Alabama. In this scene the young boy asks the young girl to marry him. As any 10 year old girl would say in response, I’m 10 years old.. I’ve got too much to live for. I just love this scene because it always makes me laugh even when I am feeling under the weather.

This video assignment was a lot of fun to do. I first started by uploading all the scenes into Windows Live Movie Maker. I then trimmed the scenes into reasonable segments. Then I voiceover-ed some scenes with my version of commentary. I used many captions.

Well I hope you enjoyed My Movie Scenes Montage! I imported it to YouTube but it was taken down b/c of copyright.

GOOF-FELLAS

For this visual assignment, I chose to make a silly movie poster (three and a half stars). One of my favorite movies of all time is Goodfellas, and the silliest thing that popped into my mind was the classic Groucho Marx glasses, especially when inserted atop unsuspecting victims. Thus, the pairing was born.

This was a fairly easy process. Perhaps the most difficult first step was finding a high-resolution version of the Goodfellas movie poster. Even when you filter your search results to get the highest quality, the results are not great. In the end, I had to go to the Amazon page for the actual movie poster and save the larger image file available directly from the site.

Once I had that, I grabbed a standard product image for some Groucho Marx glasses, and then it was onto Photoshop! First, I imported the poster into Photoshop. Then, I took the glasses and cut it out so that it was transparent and could be placed over the faces. For DeNiro, I placed the glasses straight on top as is, but for Pesci and Liotta I had to do a big of image morphing so they appeared to be slightly turned.

Here was the final result:

Brings new meaning to Pesci’s remark, “Whaddya mean I’m funny?”

Macbeth Episode IV: A New Hope (1606)

Hello! This assignment is called “Create A Silly Movie Poster” by Richard Barnes. It is worth 3.5 stars and has the following description: “Take an existing movie poster and make it look silly. My final project involved an Ewok who wanted to be in a movie with Arnold Schwarzengger. This is his idea of a poster.”

Therefore, I decided to work on something I started in my junior year of high school: what I affectionately call Macbeth Episode IV: A New Hope (1606). It has been a long time since I have read Macbeth or watched Star Wars: A New Hope (1977), but they seem to share vague similarities. I decided to take most of my images from Justin Kurzel’s film adaptation of Macbeth (2015). As the protagonist with a grand destiny, Macbeth is Luke Skywalker, of course. Lady Macbeth is Leia as his lover (nothing else). The Three Witches are odd and I almost could consider them comic relief, much like R2-D2, C-3PO, and Chewbacca. Banquo, the friend, is Han Solo. King Duncan, who was killed by Macbeth, is the ghost of Moff Tarkin – they are both killed by their respective protagonists.

Of course, this was done with my favored image editor Pixlr Editor (I sure hope this doesn’t end with Flash!) It was difficult to size the proportions of the characters’ heads, for some either had hair that needed to be covered up or their heads were in angles that I could not match a picture to. To replicate the colorfulness of the original poster, the saturation had to be tinkered with quite a lot. Shadows had to be added in large quantities to mask lighting differences and match skin tones. As for the logo, I used the Star Wars font generator on Fontmeme. A paintbrush tool with a slight smear was used in various sizes to speckle the logo with stars. I am not quite sure why I used a more vignette-type of filter on the border of the image, as that is one of the things I did back in high school, but I enjoy how it looks instead of being blindingly white.

One thing I would consider doing if I decide to keep editing this is to reduce the saturation and eliminate the vignette to reach a more ‘vintage’ image. To unify these elements into a favored aesthetic would help reduce evidence of my status as an amateur. This activity fit into the 80s theme, for while Star Wars was first released in 1977, its sequels and the popularity of its characters flourished in the 80s. Overall, this assignment grew my experience as an editor and to just have fun. This image isn’t supposed to be taken seriously, although I am proud to reflect on what I did in the past (2017) and see how far I’ve come today. It is worth 3.5 stars and then some!

The horrors of Pillsbury

For this Visual Assignment I created a silly movie poster using my final project character, the Pillsbury Doughboy.  I had to create a movie poster that then was transformed to silly, and then incorporate the doughboy. This was for a total of 4 stars.

The horrors of Pillsbury is a horror film that is set in the town of Pillsbury.  The residents are all doughboys that are the nicest people in the world, and love having their bellies tickled.  One dark night there was a murder on the mayor of Pillsbury.  The town was tossed into chaos and no one could figure out who had done such a horrible thing.

Find out what happens in this horrifying film on July 8th!

  • The create this i used Paint 2 for MacOS.
  • I created a new project

  • I then found a picture of the doughboy online, saved it, and imported it onto the blank canvas.
  • I then used the text tool to write ontop of the picture.

Jurassic Story

For this mock marked post I chose this assignment  which involved the creation of a silly movie poster.

movie-poster

Above you can see what I have created using Adobe Photoshop. I started by using a blank template of the Jurassic Park poster which I found on this website.  My inspiration was to blend the dinosaur character Rex from Toy Story  into the post in place of the dinosaur head which is on the real poster. I did this using this image of Rex and also added this movie rating image alongside some other funny text elements into the poster (see if you can spot them). For the title text on the main logo I blended both the movie titles of the elements I used together into “Jurassic Story”.

You in Collage Form. Make it about the character that was created last week.

This is a preview of my character that I created in last weeks assignments.

Week 4 Visual Assignment

2 Stars Places of Piece

Create a collage of photos with all of your favorite spots where you feel relaxed or at peace. This should include at least four photos and can be places on-campus, at home, or maybe a spot you found while traveling. Then post the college to twitter.

The beach and the mountains are my favorite places to go and unwind and recharge. Unfortunately I did not make it to the beach this summer. The mountains are peaceful and relaxing. It is usually cooler in the mountains than it is at my home.

2 Stars Your Favorite Photo

It’s simple. Choose your favorite photo you’ve taken and tell everyone why you love it so much.

This is my cat, Smokey. I got him when he was about 3 days old. He had to be bottle fed every 2-3 hours, just like a newborn baby. In this picture he is a couple of month old. Every time I would get out of this chair, he would jump in the chair and go to sleep.

4 Stars   Create a silly Movie Poster

Take an existing movie poster and make it look silly.

I used the Grinch Movie poster and added a hanging bat, hanging spider, an oragne balloon and soem silly squggles.

2 Stars   You in Collage Form

This comes with simple instructions. Make a collage with images and words that describe you or mean something to you. This can either be done with actual materials like paper and magazine clips or by taking images, memes, and fonts from the Internet. Be careful to focus on the design of the collage, not just putting things together in a big glob. Have fun and be creative!

I love my family! They are my biggest supporters and they give my strength when I need it and encourage me to be the best that I can be. Snowman in the Christmas scene describes me very well. I can watch Christmas movies year around and I love snowmen. Christmas is my favorite season, its magical. Snowflakes, I am like a child when the first snowflakes fall every year. I love snow!! Can Am Motorcycle- this is a hobby that my husband and I share. I have been all over the state of Virginia and West Virginia. Quilt picture- I love to quilt, unfortunately I do not have the time to quilt with my college schedule. I do quilt and sew during holiday breaks and between semesters. This is me.

Lyric Video

For this assignment, I used this assignment. Originally, I wanted to create a karaoke version of a song. Mostly due to copyright issues that Youtube always brings, but also because I thought it would be more fun. But mostly due to copyright. I was using ClipChamp to make this video, and it was a really nice site to use with really good features. I remember using it once in high school to make a project and really liking it. But I did run into a problem where it kept crashing on me all the time, which was super annoying. I even tried to use it on a desktop computer and it still kept crashing. And of course it completely crashed and stopped working after I finished making a video that I was super proud of. I was originally going to use Adobe OpenShot, but I used it for one day and when I tried to reopen it, it completely refused. Maybe this just isn’t my best tech week :/ As my last resort, I ended up using iMovie to make and edit this video, and then uploaded it to YouTube after.

I chose the song ‘Best Song Ever’ by One Direction for this lyric video. I wanted to make this video channel the 2011-2013 era genre of lyric videos. I wanted to be silly and funny with it (the girls that get it, get it. The girls that don’t, don’t). Also, I was super frustrated that two other video programs were completely shutting down on me. So instead of making a really impressive video like I planned, I instead went for a more comically route.
