Leaving on a Jet Plane

Cornelius Selfie Slideshow

This could very well be the last assignment I have to do for class (I’m keeping in mind that maybe I will have to do a little extra work if maybe the professor says so but otherwise this is looking good). And I totally tried out a new program and trouble shot tons of connection issues (hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire one does not have WiFi or cellphone coverage all the time) but here it is and it’s pretty good.

Planet Sabotage?

Tired of the army, a soldier escapes with one of the prisoners and teams up with a warrior and her robot to destroy a planet.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

__________

This prompt was super fun to think about. What would a movie look like if it was only given one sentence of description, and that sentence was horribly misconstrued? Originally, I wanted to make this blurb western-themed, but going for a more recent and widely known film sounded more appealing in the end. After lots of speculation, I decided to go with the latest addition to the Star Wars films, since so many people have seen it and the references would be easier to get. A lot more happened in the movie than a group of misfits going to destroy a planet, but once you remove the context the whole plotline sounds like a terrible idea, which I enjoy quite a bit.

Despite my final blurb being so small, I spent a lot of time making sure it sounded right. I took the time to pick out the right words so it would flow like a brief movie description as opposed to a joke. The exercise here came with a lot of word choice and brevity practice. Making a short joke that sounds entirely serious is a writing task worth spending more than a few minutes on. Hopefully it sounds convincing enough!

My Animal Planet

jack-o-pig

There is nothing like being down on the farm.  But this is what can happen when the jack rabbits get into the pig pen!

I am beginning to be able to navigate Microsoft paint well enough to accomplish these assignments with not too much difficulty.  For this one I cropped the head and tail off an image of a jack rabbit and placed it on an image of a pig.  Easy as pie!

A Walk Down Memory Lane!

Although I graduated from high school just last year, it seems like a long time ago! My years at Stafford High School were pretty great, despite the many, many hours that I spent on homework and studying for AP and Honors classes. Four years of varsity basketball, combined with awesome friends, provided an outlet for the … Continue reading A Walk Down Memory Lane!

Leavin’ On A Jet Plane

I did the design assignment “Let’s See Some ID” to create this image that I’m going to use as a component in my final project. This is a rendering of a fictitious airplane ticket from Baltimore Washington Airport to London’s Heathrow Airport.  I downloaded an image for an old plane ticket and using Photoshop, I […]

Chaplin Escapes Animal Planet

Technology always seems to fail exactly when it is needed. I have been using iMovie more frequently than I normally do because of ds106 and it seems to have taken its toll. Every time I try to create a new project and begin working on it the software crashes unexpectedly. So this project that should really only take a little over an hour has turned into a half of a days worth of a mess. I tried to download a free trial of Final Cut Pro X, but of course it wouldn’t run when I tried opening the program. I went online and tried every last suggestion with no success, so I gave up after about five hours and downloaded a newer version of iMovie, which set me back a few dollars, but finally my issues were resolved. Enough about my technological deficiencies and more about the story!

The story is rather simple because it is somewhat like Planet of the Apes. Animals have taken over the planet, but not just normal animals, circus animals (cue dramatic music)! Charlie Chaplinn plays a man who just escaped from an animal run prison and is now fleeing the scene only to get caught in a cage with a lion. Luckily for him another human had just escaped and was near by to help him:

I wish I could make a feature length film of what life would be like living under our circus animal oppressors. I imagine that just like in Planet of the Apes, the humans try to escape and revolt against the animals. Of course this all takes place after Chaplin escapes from the Lion’s Den as I like to call it!

The video is not the greatest because it has sort of corkiness to it, so dramatizing it with epic music kind of makes it funny. I wish I could have added more, but it has been a little difficult getting used to this new version of iMovie. I am definitely liking the new version, but I think it will take a while to get fully adjusted. Though this project took me all day, mainly because of my computer issues it still was box load of fun!

Editing the video really wasn’t all that different from before just copying and pasting sound and footage together. What was difficult for me was adding in additional media like the text and and actually going in and editing individual pieces of footage and audio. Finding all the different tools I normally use was a little bit of a pain, but after a while I got used to the new process. Probably the hardest part of all was just selecting the right clips I wanted to edit. For whatever reason this new version of iMovie makes it really difficult to select clips with a trackpad. Here is what the new iMovie software looks like in case you were wondering:Screen Shot 2014-07-20 at 8.15.00 PMAdding the audio was simple: I took the audio clips from random students on Sound Cloud downloaded them and then just pasted them in the correct positions with little editing. I wanted to use more audio from our class, but most students including myself made the mistake of not making the audio track available to download. Just a small oversight and not that big of a deal. For the music I used a song called “Black Vortex” which I acquired from Royalty Free Music. If there is anything specific you would like to know please let me know! Also, I hope you enjoyed the video!

Jim in the Air(plane)

After yesterday I can’t get JA out of my head.

I hope I managed to shroud Jim is a couple of wisps of cloud, and knocked dow the brightness and contrast in some sort of effort to match tone.

The Music is not quite JA but it is CC.

Man-of-Steel---Official-Trailer-#2-[HD]

Ok so the semester is over but DS106 heart still beats, so going through the assignment bin I was inspired so to say try my hand at a gif just to practice so to say. So I came across this nice one assignment wich asked us to Turn a GIF into a FIG, which was taking a clip and reversing it in GIF format. So I was watching the official trailer 2 for Man of Steel (one of the few anticipated summer films I feel worthy of watching in a cinema) and for some reason thought the scene between 1:30 and 1:45 looked kinda intense with Kal-El taking off for flight and how it might look done back wards. So this process is kind of familiar now using KeepVid to download one of the mp4 formats of the clip & I usually use the middle quality. Then I open it using photoshop, go to Windows menu and open the Animation window. Then using the timeline I can select the exact scene I want from the clip then out of those many clips about nearly 400 I had to delete many frames and resize the gif then adjust the time lapse between each frame then save for Web & Devices. I may still end up tweaking it tho. Endless Possibilities.

I’m leaving on a jet plane

Well not just yet…

For my next 2-star assignment I chose “A place I’ve Never Been before.” I saw this over on Brittany’s blog (her’s is amazing) and new I wanted to do it too.

The premise behind this assignments is to just pick a place you’ve never been before and create a photo collage/illustration of that place. There are a lot of places I’ve never been, but want to go so I figured it would be hard to decide upon one choice, but a conversation with my mom earlier this evening ended my search quite quickly.

First, I have to provide some background information. My dad works in Jordan, yes the country in the Middle East! He’s been there about 2 years now and my mom and I have yet to go visit him because of work and school schedules, among other things. He’s come home a bunch of times, which is awesome, but I’ve been wanted to go visit him and Jordan for some time now. My parents were talking earlier today and my dad suggested that we try to come over sometime this summer! So I think we are going to go late July, early August. I’m sure it will be 120 degrees Fahrenheit (HA!) but I’m excited about the possibility of going this summer!

So that’s how I came about my decision to pick Jordan. For this college, I picked the country’s Flag, camels, and Petra- which we will probably go to on our trip. I’m obsessed with camels (they are so cute!) and I’m most excited about the ability to get to ride one while we are there! It’s been a dream of mine!

I got all the picture from google, uploaded them into GIMP and used the free select tool on the camel and Petra. I actually flipped both photos so as not to interfere with the star on the flag. For the name, I went into PicMonkey and then imported it into GIMP. I’m just not a fan of using the fonts in GIMP.

I like the way it turned out! Have you ever ridden a camel?

3 Stars: Recycling’s Good for the Planet

So, to start off this week, I made a

I have to say, I was disappointed by the lack of audio choices.  I really thought there’d be a wider selection of media, so I was kind of shoehorned into make a kind of sound story along with my pictures.  I took a few sounds from freesounds.org, but the wind swishing was from the recycled media.

Our story begins with our “hero” walking down a path into the woods where he encounters many different bushes.  A leaf falls, and he stand briefly to stare at it and contemplate life.  From there he runs into a rambunctious cat.  Once he emerges from the woods he witnesses a car accident and quickly ran to get help.

I threw all of my images and sounds into windows movie maker and editted it from there with a few transitions.  This was kind of a complicated assignment.  I was glad that there were so many nature pictures because that ended up going with my narrative.

3/7 Stars down!
