Mash Up

This is the “consumer mash up” assignment. You incorporate your favorite product into the logo of the store you purchase it from.

I shop at Aeon. It’s this sort of department store that also sells groceries. They have an imported foods section that sells these frozen Italian pizzas that are the best. Frozen pizza is a must because delivery is too expensive. One pizza from Domino’s in Japan is over 40 dollars. And it’s thinner than what you would get in the states. So a higher end frozen pizza is much preferable.

I took a photo of a crisp cheese pizza and then I incorporated it in to the the logo to make an “O” using the photo editor, Gimp.

Movie Trailer Mashup

4 Star Assignment

Process

This one was a ton of work. Feng warned me but I didnt believe her at first and after working on this for over an hour I believe her!! Basically for this video I got the soundtrack from LOTR and a ton of youtube videos of scenes from the movie. I then edited the videos extensively to feature some important moments throughout the trilogy to change the meaning of the movie. Instead of a quest to destroy evil LOTR is reduced to a love story between Sam and Frodo

Motivation

Frodo and Sam were close in the LOTR but sometimes the way the acted together was a bit too close. I know the relationship and bond they had was strictly platonic but many  times during the film I wondered to myself if they were about to kiss.. I played upon this theme in my mashup where I edited the clips of Frodo and Sam being together.

Note: It is not like I am against homosexuals or anything of that sort. I am just playing upon the difference between what the director intended and how the filming came out. In the books and movie I believe their relationship is purely friendship but as I stated before at some points these characters were too close or something about the body language was off. These sort of mishaps are funny and I am playing upon those themes.

Star Wars Trilogy Mashup!

For my trilogy trailer mashup, I used Star Wars, Episode I, II, and III, mostly focusing on the transformation of Anakin to the dark side. I spent a substantial amount of time editing this and I believe it turned out pretty well. One of the biggest challanges was to get everything to flow nicely as I cut, mixed, and added footage from the three movies. Another huge challenge was to get the dialogue flowing nicely and having other footage overlaying dialogue (if you had a chance to look at my audio tracks, it was a mess!). Overall, I still kept it in a chronological order, however mixed footage up to make each episode flow nicely into the next. I used alot of blending techniques as well as audio layers to give it the effect of one trailer playing throughout. I also inlcuded some foreshadowing footage from Episode III in the beginning of the trailer, from when Anakin was just a child. Nonetheless, having the audio sync in well was actually the biggest challenge overall. Finally, in the end, I showed the overall before and after transformation of Anakin to conlude the trailer.

ds106 Mashup

I have chosen This assignment.
Instruction says that: “Take any 2 (or more) creations from any category of assignment that another student has posted and mash them up into something new an original. Hopefully most of what we’re creating here is CC-licensed for remixing but check first before spending hours on your masterpiece.

So, I chose this picture

from this page by kkm32.

and this picture

from this page by Ingenuous Dynamics.

finally I made it.

Reason why I made this picture is I think this shows one of the future of the internet. Now, you can download pictures, books, music, movies and so on. you don’t have to go book store, CD shop, movie theater. You can get every information on your computer, you don’t even have to go outside. Your life will be comfortable more than now. However, sometimes its illegal. And if everyone will download everything (illegally), publisher could not get money and they will go out of business and culture die off.

Therefore, when I made this picture, I thought the future of the internet and I would like you guys to think about it.

Name that Tune – Music Mashup

The Assignment: I found this assignment, and always appreciate a chance to share good music with others, so I did it. :D The instructions were as follows:

For this assignment, I got short pieces from 6 different songs and put them into once piece. I tried creating the effect of tuning through the radio for this one by getting a sound of a radio tuning off of youtube and inserting it in between each song piece. Can you identify all 6 songs?

The Process/Story: I started by simply opening up iTunes and browsing through my music library. I knew I wanted to start off with a song by SCANDAL, since they are my favorite female group since I first saw them at Sakura Con 2008 in Seattle back when they were still an indies group. I also knew I wanted to include a B’z song, since they my favorite male group, (and definitely the most awesome, since every single one of their singles for the past 20 years has made #1 on the charts.)

Other than that, I picked songs with a similar harder rock style from some of my other favorite artists, asking for help from some members of my fansub group in IRC for YUI and ZARD since they know their songs by memory way better than I do.

Once I had the six songs picked, I loaded them in Audacity and used the selection tool and the shifted delete function to trim and shift the songs to parts where they would all fit together nicely.

After getting the song mix to sound the way I liked it, I went to the File>Export option, and choose to save the mix as a WAV so it wouldn’t lose any quality transcoding the music from the open source lossles FLAC I painstakingly ripped from my own CDs with Exact Audio Copy before moving to Japan.

Unfortunately, it seems Soundcloud transcodes the WAV to mp3 upon uploading, so it still loses some audio quality there, but at least the damage was minimized on my end.

Were you able to guess all the songs? Here’s the tracklist:

SCANDAL – SCANDAL no Theme (SCANDAL’s Theme)
ZONE – GOOD DAYS
Stereopony – Hitohira no Hanabira (A Single Flower Petal)
ZARD – Ai wa Kurayami no Naka de (Love is Within the Darkness)
B’z – BURN
YUI – My Generation

Mashin up Album covers

In This mashup assignment you were supposed to remix an iconic Album cover to mean something else.  Instead I sort of went in a different direction and combined two album covers from 2 of my favorite bands Mogwai and Boards of Canada.  I used Mogwai’s EP+6 cover and  BOC’s (Boards Of Canada’s) Music has the right to children.  Both bands draw from an ambient sound but approach music in different ways.  Mogwai is mostly instrumental Post-rock using mainly traditional rock instruments Guitar, Bass and Drums but run their sound through boards and boards of effect pedals to get very interesting results.  BOC is a duo who are primarily Electronica and IDM (Intelligent Dance Music).  They use a lot of scratchy analog samples based around 1960s educational videos from The National Film Board of Canada.  It’s strange that both groups just happen to be based out of Scotland.  The Image that came out is rather nostalgic feeling image filled with graininess.  The process was rather simple, you just layer one image on top of another how ever you want then adjust the opacity and fill on the images to get the desired translucency.

Movie Trailer Mashup

For this Assignment i decided to use parts of the trailer from the movie orphan and change the audio with a song from the hit Broadway musical and movie Annie! I wanted the parts of the trailer to give Annie a darker image…Annie a smart bubbly red head vs the dark and scary Esther. I think it some parts i managed to get the audio to match up to the scene pretty well…i can honestly say i tried my hardest and that in the process i learned how to do a lot more with windows live movie maker on my own. *high-five* for me.

Movie Trailer Mashup – Bring It On meets Chicken Run

Here’s the assignment:

Take your favorite movie trailer and mash it up with a different trailer to completely change the meaning of the original trailer. For example, if you have a funny movie trailer, give it the sound of a terrifying movie; or vice versa. You may need to clip the audio or the visual, use imovie and audacity to cut the clips to give you what you need. Good luck!

This was a lot of fun!  Although picking out movies that would work was a little bit tricky.  I actually spent way too long doing that…   As you can see, I used Bring it On and Chicken Run.  I do like both of these movies, although I can’t say that either of them are my favorite.  I also don’t think that I totally changed the meaning of Bring it On, but I do think that I sort of made fun of it.  I used iMovie to clip some scenes from the trailer, because it was very long.   I also added the Universal Studio’s sound in the beginning (which I got from here), because there was a huge awkward silence.  I found that there were so many times that the audio from the Chicken Run trailer were matching up so well with what characters from Bring it On were doing.  Both were comedies, but I think that adding the Chicken Run audio made it into a parody of Bring it On, as it suggests that the cheerleaders are chickens.  There was so much arm flapping, that it looked like they were doing the chicken dance, so it worked out a few times.

Something else I found challenging was clipping parts of the video out, and replacing it with other parts of the trailer.  I realized that in iMovie I could see how many seconds something was when I highlighted it, and that made it a lot easier when replacing it with different video clips.  I also used the “clip trimmer” for the first time, for the audio.  That was also helpful, especially when I added the sound affects at the very beginning.  If I didn’t use the clip trimmer on the Universal Studio’s sound clip, there would have been a lot of overlap with that and the Chicken Run audio, and that would have been so messy.  I also “faded out” the Universal Studios sound clip, so that it would be a slightly smoother transition to the Chicken Run audio.

After watching the mashup, watching the Bring it On trailer sounds weird.

Assignment worth 4 stars.

DS106 Mashup

I chose the assignment, Mashup. It requires ”Take any 2 (or more) creations from any category of assignment that another student has posted and mash them up into something new an original. Hopefully most of what we’re creating here is CC-licensed for remixing but check first before spending hours on your masterpiece.”

I brought two pictures from hungtuj and ri12211. And through Aviary, I mashed up them.

This is first assignment for me, and I was intrested in the assignment because the assignment requires to combine the two assignments which other students posted. And I chose the above pictures because I though the picture each will be match perfectly.
