So, I don’t really pay attention to any actors or current movies. I kinda just prefer to watch older stuff, so I’m not super aware of that many current actors because I refuse to watch them.
I decided to take Eddie Murphy, and some other guy whose name I forgot. I put them in the Telletubbies background. I don’t really know why I made that choice, it just happened.
I used the program Gimp to edit them in. My old college finally cut the cable between me, and Photoshop, which I had been using for free since I was on the educational plan thing. I really like Gimp, it runs fast, there aren’t any ads and its completely free.
This four-star assignment states “Take 2 actors and mash them together into one photo. You can use Photoshop or Pixlr to do this. Make sure that they look like they belong in their setting and they look like they were actually together when the photo was taken (the colors match, the sizing is right, etc). Have fun with it!”
Now… This was my chance to have a lot of fun… Especially with current events, you can’t tell me I wasn’t fully justified in creating what I did!
Let me tell you how I did it. I ran to Photoshop and decided to find the most accurate picture of a Hispanic baby shower that I could find on the internet (I’m Hispanic, I know precisely what they look like). After I found a picture that satisfied me, I ran to Google Images and found a full-body photo of Chris Rock. Yes. The one of him at the Oscars. I then cut out his body from the photo, and pasted it neatly onto the baby shower photo. Of course, I had to edit the lighting and all that to make sure it blended in nicely, so I think it came out pretty well. THEN, I did the exact same thing… With Will Smith! I pasted him right across Chris Rock as neatly and happily as I could, and here are my results!
Great, no?
This four-star Mashup Assignment states “We all have favorite holidays, but sometimes it’s hard to pick just one! For this assignment, use a photo editing software like Pixlr or Photoshop to mashup your top THREE favorite holidays/cultural celebrations. Use whatever elements you would like from each holiday, creating a character or scene with the images/symbols you’ve chosen. Tell the story behind this character or image!”
So, let me show you what I did!
As soon as I saw this assignment on the assignments page, I FLEW to my computer and opened up Photoshop IMMEDIATELY. This is, by far, one of the more exciting assignments that I’ve been given the chance to do. I started by taking a cute little transparent PNG of a bunny and I slapped it on a Christmas-Wintery-themed background. After that, I just continued cutting out more PNGs and adding them strategically on or around the little bunny, so I could end up with a Valentine’s-Christmas-Easter Bunny! Isn’t it adorable?
I’m embarrassed to say but the Divergent series is my comfort series, but I’ve heard many people compare it to The Hunger Games. So, this assignment was easy.
I found photos with transparent backgrounds, and put them into Canva. I also tried adding a filter to the Katniss photo so it could blend better, but I was having trouble doing so. I think it overall turned out really well.
Are you an avid Twitch watcher? Do you use Chrome extensions such as FrankerFaceZ, BetterTwitchTV, or 7TV to see exclusive emotes created by the community? If so, this is the perfect assignment for you. Pick your favorite streamer and your favorite Twitch emote and combine the two somehow! Use key elements from an emote and apply it to a picture of the streamer, combine one of the streamer’s exclusive subscriber emotes with another, or whatever you like, as long as you’re combining the essence of a streamer with your favorite emote!
This assignment is listed as 3 stars but it can be counted as 4, but there’s a catch. If you’re able to have the streamer activate the emote you create in their channel and have an exciting experience with chat using it, write about that in the blog post to get an extra star!
For MashupAssignments1864, Mash Thyself, Before Ye Trash Thyself, I took the two pieces of work from previous assignments and added them to my Exercise and Socialize video. Surprisingly, they all worked together, basically with a common theme of getting up and moving with your people, because you’re happy! I stretched the music track so that it covered all the video track so now there is background music throughout. The assignment was to mashup my own work and after going through everything over the past 11 weeks, these three projects worked very well together.
This is one of my favorite songs–I refer to Don’t Rain on My Parade as my lifelong mantra in a previous blog so let’s keep up a good, joyful thing going! I was working on MashupAssignments2124 and immediately thought of the Glee version with the lead singer Lea Michele and the film version of Barbara Streisand’s big hit. These are two very strong, capable artists and they came together perfectly. In the last few seconds, I combined the two clips and they are almost perfectly in synch and in artistic strength and quality. The goal of this mashup was to show how the different covers have been created over the years. Even though the costumes, backdrops, and body movements have changed, the strength of character has not changed and is still relevant today. This is a very empowering piece of music for anyone breaking away and becoming their own person.
To make this mashup, I put each piece on separate tracks then looked for a break in one track and used the scissors to cut it, then went back and forth on the next song until I found exactly where to cut it so I could match it up and start exactly where the last one left off. This was tricky because OpenShot Video Editor did not have the finesse I really needed to get exactly down to the .10 of a second to cut from one word to the next. I think it flows pretty well but I spent an inordinate amount of time getting the cuts to flow smoothly from one piece to the next. Then at the end, I had both tracks playing together, which I thought was pretty cool because they were in the same key, same timing and matched almost exactly. I made no adjustments!
To be entirely honest, I am not really sure where this one came from or why this idea popped into my head. I chose to do a photo mashup as one of my assignments (4 stars). I had a completely different idea when I started and I somehow ended up here with Octanouts and clone troopers. I decided to add an Octanout character from the episode when they were in outer space to an image of clone troopers. I chose a celestial background to mash these two together. I had recently watched Octanouts with my niece and I figured everything is better when you throw Star Wars into it. I hope someone finds this as strange as I do!
This is one of those assignments that I saw and just knew I had to do. I was looking at all the remix assignment options and decided that it might be kind of fun to remix one of my friends and create them as an emoji… so here we are. This is my best friend and roommate Rosemary, who is also a former ds106er. The cowboy hat is an ongoing joke between the two of us and the fact that we are both from southern towns so this is where my inspiration came from. I decided to compare her to the smiley cowboy emoji because of this and the way that when she is in a hat she is always smiling. Here is my interpretation of a remix between a friend and an emoji. This mashup assignment was worth 4 points. Hope you enjoy!!
