Celebrating Too Early…

Celebrating success too early can end up being a complete downfall. It’s like waiting until final grades are published on Banner to know what you actually got in the class. If you celebrate your A too early, and it ends up being a B, the level of defeat is unreal. In this case, a sports team kept their eye off the ball and completely lost a point. This could have ultimately been the reason why they lost the game. It is great to be proud of accomplishments and celebrate but the end project is much greater of a celebration then too early.

I chose to do this particular assignment because I worked on GIPHY, as discussed in my previous post, and I am really enjoying playing around with all of the features. I recommend everyone trying it out!

Premie Celebration

For this assignment, I had to create a gif of a person “celebrating too early.” Typically, when I think of someone celebrating too early, I tend to think of athletes. However, I feel that choosing an athlete for this gif assignment would be expected. So, I decided to research people celebrating way too early on game shows like “Wheel of Fortune” or “Price is Right.” Ultimately, I found a video from the “Price is Right.” As you can see in the gif, this woman began to celebrate way too early because she thought she had won $10,000. However, reality came crashing down on her when she looked back at the wheel.

Celebrating too early. What a Shame…

For this assignment, I took a classic goalkeeper fail and turned it into a GIF. The process behind this is pretty simple as there is an entire website dedicated to making your own GIFs called giphy.com.

Desean Jackson celebrates prematurely

Make a GIF when someone celebrates too early. You can use Make A GIF or any software to help you trim the video that you find into a five second or less GIF. Make sure you embed your GIF into your blog post.

To complete this GIF assignment, I used the website GIFY and created my own account. The site was easy to navigate and took about two minutes to do. The hardest part was determining what I wanted to make my GIF from. I thought sports would be the best example where someone might celebrate too early. I settled on my favorite NFL team the Philadelphia Eagles because I’m from Pennsylvania.

This GIF is of Desean Jackson from the Eagles. In 2008, he scored a touchdown and did a little victory dance. Unfortunately, he ended up dropping the ball at the one yard line in excitement and it was not a touchdown even though it could’ve easily been one. He is the perfect example of celebrating just a little too early.

Animated GIF Assignment: Celebrating Too Early

Brooklyn Nets vs. Washington Wizards

As you can see this GIF was inspired by a NBA game between the Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards. The Washington Wizards were down by just a few points from the Brooklyn Nets, during the final quarter of the game. The Wizards got excited about their shot due to only a few minutes left in the game and their score rose one point over the Nets. The Wizard’s team started to celebrate after this shot, because they were so close to beating the Nets. Many people do this during the game and it just shows how the heat of the game can bring many emotions. This GIF tells a story, in such a way that it immediately shows the excitement and celebration before the teams actual win. Creating this was very enjoyable to me, because I love basketball and I like how I got to incorporate it with Digital Storytelling.

pk save…. or not

the first one is a pk save celebration that i remembered seeing a while ago. He was found celebrating too early and the goal went in and counted. AnimatedGIFAssignments, AnimatedGIFAssignments1747

Assignment Bank #2

My second assignment bank was a little unusual for me. I chose to make a gif where sports players celebrated too early. I don’t tend to watch sports, and I have adamantly tried to enjoy them. This calls for Sunday’s to be my least favorite day’s. My boyfriend, on the other hand, lives and breathes for the Chargers. I have undergone many “training” sessions of me asking 3 hours of questions, trying not to annoy him too much. So when I found this assignment, I immediately texted him to find out if he knew of any players that celebrated too early. Men don’t have very wonderful texting time, so after waiting for a response, this required me to do some searching on youtube. It’s fairly easy to find a video to support this topic. The hardest part was sorting through the youtube video to find the perfect opportunity for the gif. There were many video compilations, and in the compilations they had videos of regular plays integrated into them. I found one that was equally relevant and funny. It is of a race and the runner starts to slow down to celebrate, and as he is, another competitor steals the winning slot. After I found the perfect segment, I just went to makeagif.com and put the link to the video into the website and correlated the specific time slot in the video to make the gif. It was easier than I had originally thought, and having a website that does all the hard work for you really makes a difference. I then put it on twitter and called it a night. I did quite enjoy this assignment. I stepped out of my normal interests and made something I wouldn’t dare do in my spare time. It offered a learning experience too, as I had no idea how easy making gifs was. I thoroughly enjoyed it and discovered something new about myself in the process. Maybe sports aren’t that bad after all.

The Premature Celebration

This is my first of two GIF assignments this week. I chose to do this assignment because I love sports and when I saw this on the list of assignments, this moment came to my mind instantly. I remembered watching this game a few years ago and thought that this moment would be perfect for the GIF.

Everyone likes to celebrate when their team wins a game or someone makes a spectacular shot, but what happens when your celebration goes wrong? In an outstanding game between Oklahoma and Missouri, Stephen Pledger, a former player on the Oklahoma mens basketball team, started to celebrate right after his shot while the ball was in the air because he thought there was no doubt the ball was going into the basket. When the ball then rimmed out he fell to the ground in disbelief. He had a chance to send the game into overtime to keep his team’s chances of upsetting a high ranked Missouri team late in the season alive. To add to the fact that his team lost, his premature celebration was all over ESPN for the next week and made it onto the Not Top 10 plays of the week. The Not Top 10 are basically like bloopers during games where the hosts on ESPN are able to make fun and laugh about them.

Assignment: Celebrating Too Early

I created this GIF on giphy.com.

Step 1: Copy and paste the URL from the video you want to use.

Step 2: Move the sliders to choose where in the video you want your GIF to start and how long you want it to be.

Step 3: Click the “Create GIF” button at the bottom.

Step 4: Click “Download” on the right and then click the top option “Source file with no edits.”

So Close, But Not Close Enough

For my second animated gif assignment, I chose to make a gif of someone celebrating too early. I could only think of sports things for celebrating too early so I went over to Youtube to search for some sports players failing at the last moments, and I found this video of some early celebrations.

I selected the one I like and then went over to the makeagif.com website to convert the video to a gif.

And here’s the final product:

Celebrating Too Early: Desean Jackson touchdown uh oh

For this assignment, I was to create another GIF, one focused on an athlete celebrating too early. I looked up the top 10 biggest blunders where they celebrated too early and I remembered this play by Eagles wide receiver Desean Jackson. In this play, he was just inches from the touchdown when he dropped the ball in celebration for what he thought was a score. In doing so, it became a fumble and the team did not receive a touchdown, but the ball went to the opponent. For this, I screenshot a number of different intervals of the video I found on youtube and put it together in GIMP. This play makes me laugh every time at what a fool he was at this point. Great player, but a great mistake.
