For this assignment, I had wanted to tell a story using gifs. I chose the story of me realizing that a ds106 due date is coming up, and I haven’t finished the work!

For this assignment, I used Giphy to search for gifs that I thought would be able to fit this story. I used their search engine and had to look around for good gifs, and once I found them I copied them and pasted them here! I liked this assignment a lot!

I just got home from taking one of the animals to the vet, and I was tired. My nerves were tired. My body was tired. Mostly though, my mind was tired. The end of the week, and I was almost done. I pick up a kitty and begin to destress, and then my husband starts to talk to me. “What’s for dinner tonight?” he asks. I don’t have any clue and start to think about it. Finally I respond with “not sure, lets just order tonight. I have work still to do, and I cannot think that far ahead right now. Unless you want to cook.” He says that he doesn’t but that if I wanted he would order for us, and surprise me with what he brings home. I am naturally suspicious, because he will likely choose something like pizza or take away Chinese. Neither of which I want. He gets his things, grabs the boy, and starts to head out the door. As the garage door is closing I start to wonder why he was so willing to go out, and take the 5 year old with him. Then it hits me. He’s up to something. What? I don’t have a clue, but I will find out eventually…in about an hour or so.

I had no idea what I wanted my reaction to be for this gif – the assignment asked that I make a gif of my reaction to anything I wanted. I had no clue. That’s when I asked my husband to record my reactions, and we quickly realized that when it comes to our interactions with each other, there is usually sarcasm, humor, and a lot of loving judgement. We instantly had the same idea, and he said “I’ve got it – get ready…go!” He used my iPhone to record this video, and then I converted it to a gif. I knew I wanted to capture a genuine reaction between us, and this was an actual response, to the hogwash he tends to send my way.

It was a rainy Thursday night at the end of finals week. I had completed my exams to the best of my ability but was drained. Mentally, my brain felt like pudding. I walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge. Like a starved beast I scoured the shelves, searching for the food I had hidden so cleverly. My hunger pangs stopped, but only for me to feel my heart drop to my stomach. My knees gave out. My younger brother had done the unimaginable; he ate my leftover Chick-fil-a.

I know this story seems a bit dramatic, but we’ve all been there. This experience is also why I, now, have a snack stash and minifridge in my room! Our stories are made in part by our experiences and how we react to them. We make the choices we do because we remember what has happened before, for better or for worse.

I made this on my Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone. I used the AR emoji feature to create myself in the AR world. After this, I used the AR stickers feature to create a pose for my character and select a backdrop to go with it. Angling the emoji with my fingers was a bit tricky, and I would have preferred to use a computer and mouse, but all’s well that ends well!

For my second Animated GIF assignment, I completed the “DS106 Reacts” prompt.

The other day, I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw a video post of Lala, the yellow Teletubbies dancing, someone made a meme of it. That, for some reason, inspired me to watch the show again. I found short clips and even full episodes of the show. It was a major throwback!

There was a time when my morning routine was waking up, eating breakfast and turning on the TV to watch the Teletubbies. It’s funny how when I mention the Teletubbies to my friends, some of them actually find them terrifying.

This is the GIF I made from one of the episodes I watched. It’s Lala going in for a nap. Honestly, so relatable. You know when you’ve made plans and then the day comes and you actually would rather be at home? I would definitely use this as my funny reaction GIF if I found out my plans cancelled. What can I say, sometimes, taking naps are way better than going out!

How I created this GIF:

I went to a website called, GifRun, typed in the YouTube video URL, and clicked Get Youtube video.

From there, I was able to choose my start time and adjust the duration of the GIF.

For this assignment I decided to create the gif of Kevin when he freaks out because of the robbers. I felt this gif was fitting to our course theme of a secret agent because I didn’t realize how much work went into this course and being undercover. Being a secret agent means that you have to deal with every thing that is thrown your way and this class throws everything it can. Obviously I would not still be here if I wasn’t excited. I think this gif also relates to our secret agent theme because in the movie Home Alone, Kevin is secretly planning this mission to make sure that the robbers who will enter his house won’t be able to hurt him or his family possessions. I find it funny how he originally freaked out when he saw them but towards the end of the movie he is calm and lets his plan go to work which is how a secret agent would. I also think this applies to me because i understand that I am stressed now but as the semester go alongs and I get more comfortable I won’t be acting like Kevin in the gif.

We have all been there. We are not interested in doing something, yet our friend somehow convinces us to do it… Sometimes it works out, but also sometimes we end up looking like this…

The clip I chose to use was one taken by my former roommate of us sledding together on one trash bag down the hill behind Brent House. As evidenced by my face, it was an intense ride down together, and my lovely roommate was able to capture it all on camera, including me somersaulting off the trash bag at the end. I was looking back through my videos to see which one might make a good reaction GIF, and I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw my face in this one. It also reminded of all the times my friends have convinced me to do something, and halfway through, I have realized that it was a mistake to listen to them.

I chose the DS106 Reacts Assignment because I wanted to try out making GIFs, which is something I had never tried before. I love looking at GIFs online, so I was excited to give it a shot myself. I used the website, GIPHY to create this GIF. I started by cutting the original video down to a manageable size and then eventually down to less than two seconds. I uploaded the video to GIPHY and played around with the start and end time to get the best reaction on my face and also to make it seem almost like the GIF is continuously looping. I then added the text to the bottom to establish what the reaction was to. Then, I was able to save the GIF to my account. It was much easier than I thought it would be to create the GIF! I am excited for that unit!
