DUBSTEP!!!!!!!!!! AHHHH, MY EARS!!!

I found the episode, “The Invaders,” of the Twilight Zone to be freakin hilarious!

I miss my childhood when Dubstep didn’t exist.

I used MPEG Streamclip to trim my scene, exported it as images, imported in GIMP as layers, scaled images, and saved as .GIF. BAM!

Invaders Gif

friendly b&w animated GIFs From The Twilight Zone and Beyond?  Try to capture all of the really nice childhood moments! You know the really, really best and funnest parts!

The Invaders Gif assignment was the only mandatory assignment for this week. I chose the seen when Agnes Moorhead begins to hear things. Her facial expressions in this scene depict the pain of being invaded by some external source, as if the invasion of her home was truly an invasion of her and her body. I wanted to depict this because of the universal discomfort her face expresses. Her feelings are something that everyone has felt, be it a physical invasion or even a mental invasion, the pain still exists.

This was probably one of the most difficult assignment that i have completed already for this class. Even though i followed the tutorials because of the size of my file it would not upload directly to wordpress, and would incorrectly upload to flickr. Instead i used  an outside source, minus, that allowed me to upload a 4.8 mb gif. From this site i was able to embed my gif into my post.

In order to make my gif however, i downloaded the Invaders video and imported it into MPEG Streamclip, from there i selected the start point of my gif using the “I” key and then the endpoint using the “O” key. I trimmed the video in order to see exactly what parts of the episode i had selected and trimmed further as necessary. I then saved the file as set of images, then had them imported into GIMP as layers of images. Because the images imported at 854×480 i needed to rescale the layers of images to 640×360. Once finished and the clip was played back i exported it as a gif file and then saved it as well.

The invaders GIF

I made a GIF to represent the Twilight zone episode the Invaders. In this episode, the invaders are little action figures but actually turn out to be the US, and the person ends up being a giant! Threw a little twist in things, huh?!

Here is a little animated GIF I made to represent the “giant’s” adventure in this episode. She cant even open her door and bam they attack!

Classic Twilight Zone Animated Vintage Clipart

Riffing on Brian Bennett’s awesome version on the “Graphic Gift” assignment, I downloaded his template and put in the reveal moment for of the classic “The Invaders” episode for a quick three stars (recommended):

invaders_reveal

This was pretty simple (standing on the shoulders of giants is allowed ;) ), I just opened Brian’s clipart-high.xcf file in GIMP, and then imported the screenshot of the US Airforce as another layer.

After that, I dragged the layer with the TV transparency to the top.

Then, I made sure the US Airforce image layer was selected and scaled it to fit in the transparency area cleanly by going to Layer–>Scale and changin the size dimensions.

Now, after doing that I got the idea of animating a GIF in that space, which led me to this and earned me 3 and a half more stars (that makes 8 and half counting my “Real-life 8-bit art” submission ;) I made the following GIF, see how here.

tz_the_invaders 1

And then merged each of the nine layers of the GIF with a copy of the vintage template layer. Here is what I mean. I duplicated the layer of guys sitting around the TV nine times and put each one above a layer of the alien I animated.

I then went to Layer–>Merge Down while selecting the layer above the alien (namely the guys around the TV). I merged each of the TV layers on top of each of the aliens.

After that, I saved the image as a GIF. Just be sure you scale the original animated GIF you import to map with the vintage image so that the two are roughly the same size. Trying to scale each layer image for size individually will quickly become a pain in the ass.

And, here is the final product:

A Katamit’s Private Thoughts

With all that capacity up there in the braincase, the Katamit is able to both communicate telepathically with the earthlings, but also reserve some bandwidth for his own secure and private thoughts.

Would that our intrepid hero Cryptographer Michael Chambers had spent more time trying to decipher the Katamit text before getting on that ship.

Of course, once our intrepid hero’s colleague, Patty, spilled the beans, it caused a bit of a kerfuffle on Earth.

However, by that time, our intrepid hero was en route to the Katamit homeworld, with only a simple redeeming thought for solace. Perhaps he is able to decipher THIS simple code? Can you?

My GIF-eye-tis must really be acting up. I’m finding it difficult to do any ds106 assignment that doesn’t wind up a GIF.

I guess there are worse afflictions.

Creepy little spaceman is even creepier now

I submitted a couple of gifs for this assignment earlier, but wanted submit an improved version of my first gif ever, b/c I learned how to do something fun: animate only part of an animated gif.
