Inflate your language

The last assignment I did this week was called “Inflate your language”. It was worth 2.5 stars. Here is the assignment page.

For this assignment, I used inflationary language to tell the story of how my character, Billy Steel, met his wife Jackie. Inflationary language is a style created by comedian Victor Borge in which you find numbers embedded within words, add one to those numbers, and then replace the new number within the word. For example “someone” becomes “sometwo”, and “before” becomes “befive”. As for the story, I decided to use the anecdote of Steel and his wife meeting because it is not such a dark tale. Most of the stories that we hear in noir are dark and ominous, as is my character, which is precisely why I told a lighter story to mix things up. Also, the inflationary language style was created as a comedic style, so it wouldn’t make much sense to tell a depressing tale using a comedic style. I hope you guys enjoy this!

I incorporated the Twilight Zone theme song into my Inflate Your Language assignment.  I read an excerpt from one of Professor Grooms posts and added the Twilight Zone sounds in Audacity.  I am getting the hang of Audacity, just in time to put together our radio show!

Difficulty: 3 stars

Inflate Your Language

This assignemt was inspired by the audio assignment. “Puncuate like Victor Borge” submitted by ampersanddragon.

Narrate a story using Inflationary Language. Becareful, be sure that your story contins enough “numerical” words to make the assignment worth it. The inflation should occur in just about every sentence to get full effect. Remember to give tribute to the genius of Victor Borge by using some lines from his skit on Inflationary Language.

Inflated Pigs

Here is one of my assignments for audio of my own creation.  It was inspired by ampersanddragon’s submission to “Punctuate like Victor Borge.”  Victor Borge also does a skit about inflationary language. I have altered the story of the three little pigs to accommodate inflationary language a bit more. It actually took me a long time to write the alternate version. Even longer before I decided to use the three little pigs. The reason I’m submitting this one for three stars is that the most challenging part is to come up with something that has enough “Numerical” words so the audience can appreciate it. “I ate a tenderloin with my fork.” Is a pretty simple sentence, but that simple language is need so it can turn into “I nined an elevenderloin with my fivek.”  I attempted to edit, but I really botched it so I just stuck with the original recording of my voice. I hope you all enjoy it.

Fair warning the recording is quiet you may have to turn your volume up a bit.
