UMW Rap God Ad

Harvey MacKay once said, “Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about those who don’t. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it.” That’s a pretty long quote. It’s true though in part of it of what Harvey said “Nobody said life would be easy…”. All college students now had to go where they wanted to go to college. Like for all of us UMW students, we had to work hard in high school to get into UMW.

I never thought I would get accepted into UMW. I was thankful to God after getting accepted into UMW. I learned from watching on TV that Doc Rivers would usually say, “Never stop believing it” in the NBA Finals 2008. To relate it to the audio assignment I decided to do, I basically had to make an ad for my school. It was fun doing it. I had the beats of the song Rap God by Eminem and stopped it at 1 minute which I deleted the other audio parts after it. I was just thinking when I was doing this assignment like:

So to do it again, I imported the beats of the song Rap God into Audacity and then I put it in another stereo track which I recorded myself talking into the microphone. I tried a bit rapping but it wouldn’t sound good I assume. So this is what I tried my best on. Here is my audio on Soundcloud and here if Soundcloud blocks my audio of copyright:

Hope you guys enjoyed this!

UMW and Movies

For my last audio assignment of this week, i wanted to do some work on my radio show. I know our show has to have some commercials, so i figured i’d make some of my own! The “Cheesy Radio Ad For Your School” was perfect. Although i interpreted this on my own. I did one AD that pertained to UMW. Since this assignment is worth 3 stars, i figured i would go a little extra and do another ad. It would benefit me and make me feel like i deserved the 3 stars. I also added some things that took a while. For my second Ad, i made my own “Coming To A Theatre Near You” commercial about an old movie called “She’s The Man.” In the week 7 post by Bond, he said we could do work for our radio show, so i suppose this is what he meant? If not, i have an extra ad, so yay! Now let’s get down to business and you’ll be able to see what exactly i did!

UMW Ad:

I started off the assignment by obeying the rules and doing a cheesy ad for UMW. I mean, i’ve heard enough of them through Pandora, so why not? Earlier today, i actually received a letter from UMW asking to donate! So i took some points from there and sounded really cheesy, enthusiastic, and intense. Of course i added the infamous “Where Great Minds Get To Work” because that basically is UMW, right? Now, simply recording this into Audacity wouldn’t be worth 3 stars. I wanted some cool background music so i went through my itunes library and searched for the perfect song. I stumbled upon the fantastic “Take On Me” by A-Ha so i used it. I tried to only use the intro but maybe some words slipped out. Oh, well. I took my recording and the song and merged them into one track. I love how it came out. I can listen to it and laugh at the same time. Now, since i wanted to earn these 3 stars, i did another commercial! But here’s the UMW ad!

She’s The Man Ad

If you’ve ever spoken to me about films, you know that i’m a sucker for She’s The Man. I basically used that film as a Bible when i was younger. It’s just the perfect preteen, teen, adult film.Since i used an 80s song for my first ad, i wanted to go on the track of doing old things. I chose She’s The Man as a “Coming To A Theatre Near You” commercial. I mean, i’m pretty sure it was one, at one point. I cheated and used a pop song from a year ago as the background song. BUT COME ON! Tongue Tied by Grouplove (who came to UMW last year) is the perfect background song to a movie trailer and so on. SO i recorded myself reading a little summary. Meh, my voice isn’t the best but nor is the guy who narrates the trailers, am i right? After i recorded my voice, i had Tongue Tied on Audacity and merged the tracks. BOOM! A beautiful ad was then created. Listen to it and tell me if you’d watch She’s The man (obviously if you haven’t before).

Where Great Minds Get To Work

I also completed the Cheesy Radio Add For Your School assignment. Once I read this I knew exactly what I wanted to say. I wanted to make it around the slogan UMW has “Where great minds get to work.” What does that even mean. Personally, I think it is cheesy by itself. I wrote up a few lines before it to make it into a commercial. I tried to make them cheesy as well. Then I searched on youtube Cheesy background music. I came across a song that was title “Uber Cheesy 80’s Music.” I had to use that one. I took a part of the song that I wanted and recorded my voice over it. Whats pretty cool about audacity is you’re able to record while playing the other sounds you already have loaded into the project. I wore my headphones so I could hear the music and then just talked into the computer and it recorded what I was saying. It was a fun assignment I do not think it is worth 3 stars but it all depends how much you put into it.

UMW Radio Ad

This is for the Cheesy Radio Ad for your School assignment, which is worth 3 stars. I decided to do this one because honestly, my friends and I spend a lot of time making fun of the billboards that UMW puts up, especially their slogans. Going in to this, I had no idea what to say to make a cheesy ad, so I went to the UMW Admissions page for inspiration. Luckily for me, what they had there was pretty good on its own. I read what the admissions office put out in a cheesy voice, and added the wonderful slogan “it’s a great day to be an eagle.” I then added some happy piano music from youtube. I used Audacity to the record my voice and add the music to it.

Cheesy Radio Ad For Your School

Ever watch those crazy corny ad’s for colleges on Tv? Or hear them on the radio? You think “Wow that was so cheesy, I could’a done that!” Well, let’s see if you can. Try and make a purposely cheesy and/or ridiculous Ad for you school.
