ft a 1984 pun

the point of this assignment is to explain an important event or memory you have, and then describe how it changed you. I decided to take just the tiniest bit of creative license, and explain a memory of the principal character in George Orwell’s 1984, Winston.

This was my favorite assignment of the week, i had so much fun completing it and then reading it with my Serious Important Things Voice- which i don’t get to use NEARLY as often as i would like to. To start off, i had to decide what memory of Winston’s to choose; and whether i wanted to speak as Winston the free-minded or Winston the Brainwashed. Even though I think Winston the brainwashed would certainly be a really interesting and fun perspective to take, the amount of thinking and reflecting that would take just was Not It this week. I chose to speak on the newspaper incident because it’s something Winston carries with him throughout the book, something he uses to remind himself of his sanity, and something he uses in his fight against big brother. My biggest challenge with this assignment was getting all of the information i wanted included to fit into 2 minutes, but i made it! Overall a really cool assignment and i just really like 1984 by George Orwell.

hope youre doing Or-WELL! -liz

A Life in two minutes

For this assignment I had to either tell an important event in my life or in someone else’s in less than two minutes. I decided to get ahead on my research for the radio show and do one about the person I chose to present on, Pablo Escobar. I googled some facts about his life and came up with a short script with a summary of his life. I think recorded this script in audacity and uploaded it to soundcloud. It was a very easy assignment and helped me get a head start for the upcoming project.

A moment that changed me..

For my first audio assignment this week I decided to go with A Life in Two Minutes. For this assignment I was tasked to talk about a moment that changed my life, but I only had 2 minutes to do so.

I think being vulnerable is very important to do. It is good for you to be able to get stuff off your chest and also to build trust with other people. I knew this assignment was going to be kind of vulnerable, but I was up for it.

I first started by thinking of my life as a whole, and trying to figure out what moment I could talk about on here that was a defining moment in my life and that I could tell in less than 2 minutes. I decided to go with something that happened to me in high school.

I was involved in marching band in high school, which I loved with all my heart but I also got super injured from. This is an injury that will never been full healed and that can keep me from doing certain activities. I have had a lot of hard feelings with this injury, but I finally feel like I am at a good place with it. I’m glad I got to reflect on this situation and think about how I felt in high school about it and compare it to how I feel now was very therapeutic!

2 Minute Life Story

This is really personal and it feels good to open up. I am sure not many people will listen but this might be a new thing for me. It’s like an audio journal. I decided to talk about being engaged at 22, living alone, and being engaged with a side of anxiety and depression. It is not exactly 2 minutes but I figure quality over quantity. This assignment was fun and I may have just found a new hobby. Also, because of these assignments, I can really see myself getting into some type of audio business when I graduate because I love it so much.

My Softball Journey

Here is the story of my softball journey, complete with my highs and lows!

My Softball Journey

Merrell’s original adventure.

So, for this assignment, I am supposed to tell ann important life story in under two minutes. I decided to put a little twist on it, however, and do it from the perspective of my character, Merrell Shale. This story is his account of the story I included in his background that accounts for how he got to the life he is leading now. Completing the assignment was rather easy now that I am becoming proficient with audacity. I recorded the track, leaving useful spaces between sections to make edits easier. Any time I made a mistake, I just paused, they read that section of script over so I could edit out the bad section.  I used some effects, normalizer, noise reduction, compressor and equalizer, to improve the overall quality of the recording.

A Life in Two Minutes- A Proposal!

For my first Audio Storytelling assignment this week, I decided to complete A Life in Two Minutes (2.5 stars) which asks you to explain, in your own words, a significant moment (or problem) in a life. This could be a friend’s life or your own. I chose to create an audio story of how Douglas proposed to me last December! It was an incredible day and the best story that I get to recount to family, friends and now all of the DS106 community! Enjoy!

Basically, Douglas proposed to me and it was an incredible surprise! He did it in the least likely place and time, catching me perfectly off guard. I’m forever thankful that we’re together and have the opportunity to spend the rest of our lives together!

I actually discovered that you can record and upload audio straight through the SoundCloud website. So, I did this instead of running the Audacity program to record my audio story. All I did before hand was gather my thoughts about the day so that I could tell the story in the most efficient (2 minutes or less!) and understandable way. If you have any other questions, please comment below! But I feel that this was pretty straightforward.

Johnny’s Life in Two Minutes

For this audio assignment, I had to record a two minute significant event or problem in my life. So instead of talking about my life, I decided to do a recording of my character Johnny “Corner Pocket” McCormick. Johnny talks about how he got the nickname Corner Pocket and how he fell in love with the game of pool. Johnny then talks about how he wants to move to Las Vegas to continue his billiards career. Corner Pocket also describes the hardships with his family. His father left the family and he does not get along with his mom so he has to make a living for himself.

I recorded this in Audacity and did some minor editing as well. I picture Johnny having a high pitched voice than I do so I edited my voice to make it sound higher.

My Life is True

This was an interesting one to see posted. I had to stop and think about something interesting in my life that was worth sharing. Of course, being in college, I reflected back to entering college. Fortunately, coming up with the audio was simple since it was just speech. As for the story, it is just under 2 minutes.

Tell me what you think about it; feel free to tell me why your life is real!

My Year in 2 Minutes

I have had a really interesting year. It has definitely been tough but I have learned a whole lot about myself and feel like a much better person. I am certainly more thankful for what I have and what I get to do everyday. Here is my response to the “My Life in 2 Minutes” assignment.
