Original Assignment … 3 Stars:

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/tell-a-story/

This assignment was to “We’ve all had to create characters, now it is time to tell their stories. Tell a story pertaining to your character. This can be either from your character’s point of view or it can be told from the perspective of a narrator. Record yourself telling the story and add sound effects or music to the background for further detail and enhanced storytelling. Try to make the story between 2 to 5 minutes long. Be creative!”

For this it felt pretty easy to create because I made up a story pretty fast. Used Audacity to record myself then used Freesounds.org to add some background music to it.

I used Character named Stacy to describe what has happened in my life recently. This summer was supposed to go to Greece with my family and friends. Sadly that didn’t happen because of COVID. Which was fine but I was very upset.

Instead, my parents turned it into a fun summer vacation using the money for Greece to travel to different beach houses to see different places. Although it wasn’t Greece it was still fun exciting, and gave you the thrill of doing something so new!

Dead and Gone

This is the tell a story assignment from the assignment bank is worth 3.5 stars. Wow! This was an absolutely amazing assignment. I had a bit of trouble deciding on the topic and tone I wanted the my story to have. So, in the end, I actually came up with a quick, dark situation and expanded on it. I will admit that this is a pretty sad and not uplifting at all, but I feel that the mood and overall tone of the story reflects this as well.

One thing I really tried to make sure is to have the tone of my voice and to have enough pauses so help play the role a lot better. I also feel that the music I found complements the tone of the perfectly as well. Perhaps a mysterious ambient soundtrack would have been much more suiting, but I very much feel that the current one will always have that sense of class that an ambient track would never have.

I found this track from Bensound.com where all of their tracks here are royalty free, however, it’s still necessary to credit the site from which you’ve downloaded the tracks from.

Putting it all together in audacity was very easy as well. I have no experience leveling or syncing audio, but It was pretty easy to have them side by side, and playing at the same time so there will be nice background music.

Radio Show Story

For this 3-star assignment I told a story of how our radio show was produced. This story was actually a lot of fun!

I created this story by first coming up with sounds that I would use in the story and came up with a brief script- this took the longest. I used FreeSounds.org to get the sounds onto my computer. I then recorded the story using Voice Memos in segments so that I could add in sound effects within my story. After I saved the 10 pieces of sounds/recordings to my desktop, I then began to place them into Garageband in their correct order. I spliced some of the sounds that were too long.

Overall this process wasn’t too consuming of time, it took me about 45mins to an hour to complete the whole project. I had a lot of fun coming up with the story, I wish I were more creative and made it more secret-agent themed in a way but I couldn’t quite design that and I didn’t want to bore people with a 10 minute story that didn’t make sense in the first place.

I used the Canvas app to create the photo for this soundcloud cover. I like having photos to go with my audio pieces because I think it catches the viewers eye and is the first thing that gets them interested in wanting to listen to the story or music.

Jess Carter Voicemail Interview

Directions:

We’ve all had to create characters, now it is time to tell their stories. Tell a story pertaining to your character. A missed phone interview? The elusive Jess Carter was supposed to take a phone interview, but of course that didn’t happen. After missing the appointment, Jess Carter sends the interviewer a voicemail with only some of their questions answered.

This was really fun for me because I was able to take on the role of my secret agent. I wanted her to be a little arrogant in her answers, so I hope that comes across. I didn’t end up adding any background noises or other audio because I wanted it to be just her voice, with no extra sounds to be investigated.

Jess Carter, the youngest curator of the MET dodges questions about the new artwork donated to the museum that was previously lost, and some claim were actually stolen out of private collections.

DS106 Radio Show: La Llorona or The Weeping Woman

For this assignment, we had to tell a story related to our character. Since our radio show is coming up and our radio show is called Myths, Legends, and Character Conversations? I decided to tell an urban legend that La Señora Luz, my character, told me, a reporter, when visiting her village in Peru.

She told me the urban legend of La Llorona or The Weeping Woman.

To create this assignment, I wrote out what I wanted to say on a Word Doc and then recorded myself saying it on Audacity. I then listened to the tape and cut out errors I had made when recording. Then, I went to FreeSound and downloaded different sound effects I wanted to incorporate into my story. Afterwards, I searched for “chill” and “creepy” royalty-free music to add as background music.

I put everything together, and this is what I created.

By listening to this audio, you will get to know my character, La Señora Luz, and the urban legend of La Llorona or The Weeping Woman.
