The Family Table

For this assignment we were required to remember a time at the dinner table and act like every member of the event at the time.  For mine I did it for the last Thanksgiving I had with my family closest friend that was pretty much family, Mr Patton.  He passed away 2 years ago on June 5th.  I do not call many people in the world with Mr. or Mrs. usually only teachers and people I greatly respected and Mr Patton was one of the few people in the world that I respected that much. He was a retired marine that knew my father most of his adult life and pretty much followed him around the world. He was always funny and had a smile on his face.  He was one of the smartest people I ever known and even when he was being funny he mostly had something to say that was very worldly.  This is not one of those times but this interaction between my brothers and him at the end of Thanksgiving dinner will stay with me for life.

For this assignment I used Audacity to record the voices in one take.

Shut up Tom

For another one of my audio assignments I chose the Family table. This post included a dinner table conversation of your family in which you acted out every part. Although mine is fictional I think it is pretty accurate. It includes my sister Amanda, my two brothers- Tom and Matt, and my parents (me too).  In a manner of speaking, it also includes one of our cats too. His name is Blackjack and almost every time we eat dinner he is close by watching, waiting, or even trying to get some for himself.

In order to do this post I recorded myself talking on GarageBand. Before that I wrote out a quick couple lines- just some ideas, but it actually wasn’t as hard as I expected. I guess I do have a lot of experience of these instances!

Dinner on Maple Street

Cant you just picture a dinner with either your friends or family that you can never forget?! Well this is what this challenge is all about! Recreate that memory that you have from a night at diner! I decided to do a dinner scene with the characters from the Twilight Zone: “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street”.

This was a great episode that would really make you think about what kind of dinner these neighbors would have! It would be crazy! Cant you imagine!? It would be insane! People would begin to think each other were monsters again! It would be insane!

Create a scene! Have fun with it! I used SoundCloud on my phone to recreate this dinner scene! It was easy and a lot of fun to think of what you actually happen!

Have fun! Here is my dinner scene for Maple Street.

Family Table

For this assignment (assignments.ds106.us/assignments/the-family-table/ ) I had to do a recording of what my familys typical dinner conversations would be like. But, I had to act as everyone in my family. First I have myself talking. I was big into field hockey in highschool and always had practices. My dad is so deaf so I tried to have him saying what a lot. My mom is a teacher at our middle school (7th AND 8th grade) and she always has the wierdest stories from her class. My sister is only a year older than mebut she is big into anatomy and the medical field. Then there is my dad, who is always saying what and cant hear anything we are saying, and loves the jets and every year he says they are going all the way. This ismy crazy family, and a little bit of what our dinner table talk is like.
I recorded, and uploaded this from the soundcloud website. This is worth 2 stars

XXII-The Grand Finale…?

Well here it is, the last ds106 assignment.

And here’s my submission…

THE ASSIGNMENT

In the interest of full disclosure, I have actually deviated somewhat from the instructions. I was supposed to re-create the sounds of MY family around the dinner table. We rarely ate around a table, and during the times that we did, well, I’m not sure the world is ready to hear this. So I made a fictional family, which I never actually gave a last name. The recording is actually titled “The Patriarch”, because I feel the father is the main character of this short play.

THE PROCESS

I was afraid this would be really difficult, or I would sound really silly, or that somebody might knock on the door of my dorm room and ask me if I was okay, but I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. I wrote a script in about an hour, rehearsed it 1.5 times, and then recorded it in one take.

Anyway I hope you guys enjoy it. It’s been a pleasure doing this blog for this class, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t in fact the last entry in it.

the family table assignment

i tried to recreate a simple convo that my family might have at the table. we dont really sit down together much and when we do its not for long. so i tried a recreation of a simple convo that my family may have.

Audio #5 ” The Famiy Table” 2 Star Assignment

“The Family Table” By: Alasia Laureano

For this assignment I had to pretend I was everyone at the family table around dinner time. So, the roles I was playing was the mother, father, little brother, and teenage sister. I sound soooo funny trying to sound like a male and a little boy, but I tried my best LOL! The audio recording program I used was the voice-memo app on my phone. Next, I sent it to my email, exported it on my desktop and then uploaded it to my SoundCloud account. Hope you guys enjoy my funny voices!!! HEHE:)

The Family Table

Everyone can recall some memory of growing up around the family table- be it Thanksgiving, day to day with siblings, across TV dinner trays, in the backseat at the drive-through of McDonalds. You know your family and these memories better than anyone. Take this chance to wax nostalgic for a minute, and recreate these magical memories. Here’s the catch: YOU have to be everyone at the family table. If you’ve ever seen Eddie Murphy’s “The Nutty Professor;” it’s the same idea, but no costumes required. Using Soundcloud or another audio recording program, give us a taste of what it was like around YOUR family table.
