One Question

For this assignment I decided to ask a few people what they thought about the 80s. I thought this could be an interesting way to kick off the radio show. After I asked around, I put all the audio files in GarageBand and edited them together. I then added some 80s background music to give it more of an 80s vibe. I am super happy with how it turned out and I’m excited to see how it is going to fit in to the radio show!

If you lived in the 80sā€¦

For my last assignment this week, I decided to do the One Question assignment. In this assignment, I was tasked to thinking of one open ended question and ask a few people their answers.

I thought of a lot of different questions, but in the end I wanted to connect this back to the theme of the class. After thinking about the questions for a couple of minutes… I finally landed on this question: If you were living in the 80s, what would your life be like? I was really excited to see how my friends would answer this question and compare them to each other.

Once thinking of this question, I started asking my roommates and friends. I started by asking my roommate and then asked some of my friends afterwards. I got a lot of different answers that range from: “I would lead a jazzercise class and play packman” to “I would go to a bunch of 80s rock concerts”.

I really enjoy being able to soo all the different answers that my friends came up with and I feel like I learn a lot more about them during this assignment! I also go to try my hand at editing audio together, which I feel like I am getting the hand at. I think it’s still kind of hard but I am enjoying it more and more!

One Question, Many Answers

For the second assignment from the audio assignment bank, I decided to the One Question. This assignment was rated 3 stars. I decided to relate this to the spy theme of the course by asking the question “If you were a spy, What would your spy name be?” I went to work and asked my co-workers (and my boss) and recorded them on my phone. I used the memo app from the iphoneĀ and then emailed it to myself. Then I used Zamzar, a free converter to turn the memo file into an MP3 which I then uploaded onto audacity.

Once I uploaded the first file in, I went through and cut out all the “umms”, silence, along with some unnecessary background talking. Then my boss walked in..

My boss, the wonderful man that he is, loves to talk and has a bit of theater background. I thought it would be funny to ask him what his spy name would be and I recorded his answer. His answer ended up being 1:30 seconds long. He went through this whole monolog, so I started cutting out and pasting it in between the different answers that all my other co-workers gave me. It’s not perfect, but pretty good.

Check it out!

I also decided to upload my boss’s full answer on soundcloudĀ because I feel like everyone needs to experience it.

Iā€™m now taking applications for new friends

One of this weeks audio assignments was called “One Question.” The directions were to “take one open ended question. Ask a bunch of people. Mix and compile. This could be video or audio only.”

I decided to ask my oh so creative friends if they had one wish what would it be?

Here are their answers: (Caution: explicit language and general inappropriateness)

[Worth 2 1/2 stars]

I recorded their answers on my phone and uploaded the footage to my google+ account. Then I downloaded the footage onto my computer and into iMovie. I edited the material together and added a basic instrumental soundtrack in the background.

Where Would You Study Abroad?

For my final audio assignment I did “One question.” I had to choose an open ended question, ask people the question, and record their audio responses. It was not too difficult of an assignment since our phones now a day can basically do anything you need. The question I chose was where would you like to study abroad if you could go anywhere? I thought this was a good one since I would be getting college students to answer my question. Ā Here is my process:

  1. Asked students the question and recorded their answer using my iPhone voice memo app.
  2. Emailed all the answers to my email and downloaded them.
  3. They were saved as .m4a format so I needed to convert them to mp3 for audacity. To do that I used ZamzarĀ which is a free converting site.
  4. Once they were converted, I opened them in audacity, cut a few sections out and that was all.

If I could study abroad anywhere in the would I would probably choose Australia. I don’t know exactly why I would go there except that it just seems like a really cool place with a lot of possibly adventures. Also, I would haveĀ to visit P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way Sydney (Yes that is a Finding Nemo Reference). Unless I hit the lottery very soon I won’t be going to Australia in the near future. The business department has a 13 day study abroad trip in the winter to Australia and the price was over $6,000!!!! I do not have anywhere close to that money right now. Hopefully once I get a job I can afford the $3,000 airline tickets.

Where Ā would you like to study abroad?

What song brightens your day?

Week 4: Audio Assignment #3

For my last audio assignment this week I wanted to do the assignment One Question from the DS106 Audio Assignment bank. Reading and listening to the same assignment done by another DS106er called “Where would you like to wake up tomorrow?” I thought it would be interesting to hear what others had to say. So for this audio assignment, I asked six students: What song brightens your day? The responses were enlightening and gave me some new music tracks to check out! Listen to the responses below:

To record the audio responses, I used the Voice Memos app on my iPhone, then emailed the files (in MP4 format) to myself. Using Audacity, I uploaded all six audio responses and used the slider tool to arrange the clips. I exported the finished file as an MP3 and uploaded the file to SoundCloud.

If you are interested in hearing any of the songs from the responses…

One Question

For this assignment (assignments.ds106.us/assignments/one-question/) I had to ask many different people the same question. The question that I asked was ā€œIf you could go anywhere in the world and money wasnt an issue, where would you go and whyā€ I love the range of different answers that I got, and the different types of people that I asked. I recorded everyones answers seperately on Audacity, then put them all together and edited it in audacity as well. This was worth 3 stars

true horror story

based off of someone else’s story, just twisted it to make it horrible.

Audio Assignment- Where would you like to wake up tomorrow?

This was a challenge. Here’s the steps without the frustrations, agony, and dead ends.

I recorded the Interviews the iphone, emailedĀ and downloaded to computer.

SomeĀ  versions of Audacity ( mine) dont like MP4 files so …convert all files to MP3Ā  using Zamzar. Ā

How do I combine two files into one longer file? Go to the Audacity site for help

Follow these steps to splice two files together:

  1. Import both files into Audacity.
  2. Select the second one by clicking on its label (the area around the mute/solo buttons).
  3. Choose ā€œFind Zero Crossingsā€ from the Edit menu.
  4. Choose ā€œCutā€ from the Edit menu.
  5. Place the cursor by clicking in the first track, after the end of the audio.
  6. Choose ā€œPasteā€ from the Edit menu.

You can press the PlayĀ button to hear the result, and use the Export commands (in the File menu) to save it as a sound file. I exported as WAV file which was uploaded to Soundcloud.
