I decided to complete this assignment so I could incorporate it into my final project story. In my story, my created western character, Talie, is feeling down and looking for things to do to change her daily routine. She recently came across an advertisement for a running marathon that would help send the local town band to nationals. So, she decided to participate! For this assignments, I did a design assignment that was worth two and a half stars. For this fundraiser for this park, we are doing a “Haunted Halloween 5K Wicked Woods Fun Run.” At this fun run, runners will get a chance to meet the cast of Corpus Metus which was the radio show I was involved with!

We are going to have a Summer 2015 Village Festival that will be just so much fun for all the Residents!
I can let the word out now that one of the reasons I have been here in The Village this summer has been to organize a celebration of fun for all my ds106 Friends and True Friends who are in The Village this summer.
You can see from the beautiful poster that I made that there will be a lot of very fun events and it will only cost you 5 Credit Units to participate in everything! It will be such a fun time and I know you will all have a great time!
So get your favourite Village clothes all pressed and clean, and get your umbrella ready for a beautiful sunny day of community enjoyment! We will have such a good event!

Plus this poster is worth more than the 2 Credit Units that I get for it under the Festival or Fundraiser Design Assignment 1751 that I said when nobody had ever done it but then John did it and now I have done it so that is two people now who are leading the way.

For this design assignment you are tasked to create an attractive advertisement/flyer for some type of event. Be creative. Any event will do, but the point is to entice people to want to attend your event over any other.

I am usually wary of design assignments, the few I’ve done are usually full of misgivings. More of that in the weekly report.
I started with the idea of doing a poster for the Village Webclub and along the way renamed it to village Webmaker, in reference to mozilla Webmaker.
I ripped off borrowed Andrew’s lovely badge which save me my background colour.
I also started thinking about all the efforts to get girls to code and a bit of googling found me some public domain images on wikimedia. I guess that leads to too many things going on for good design but I like all the references and sacrificed design to ideas.
I’ve noticed a few villagers dipping into the club which is interesting and was encouraged (a lot) by Jim’s response. It might not fly this round of ds106 but I think the possibilities of some ds106 web storytelling are interesting.
Mariana had the idea for text based adventure which we could try. I can see a lot of possibilities, most beyond my skills to implement. Here are a couple:

Events, fundraisers, festivals, and other fun things to do happen around us all the time. Have you ever had two or even three events you wanted to participate in happen on the same day, but you could only choose one? For this design assignment you are tasked to create an attractive advertisement/flyer for some type of event. Be creative. Any event will do, but the point is to entice people to want to attend your event over any other. Your event could be a harvest festival with a petting zoo and pumpkin toss, or you could have bingo fundraiser to support the local SPCA, or even better yet something completely off the wall like a save the unicorns benefit. Be sure you also include a date, time, location and any other details specific to your event. Don’t forget to tag it.
