For this assignment we were tasked to create a poster for an event or club or anything we wanted. I decided to create a poster for the Women’s Ultimate Frisbee Team, Mary Massacre. I joined the team last semester so I thought it would be fun to create a poster for something I was apart of.
Here is the poster! I posted it on my twitter to advertise! The girl in the photo is a girl on the team that I found a high quality image of.
I am really happy with how it turned out and might give it to the team president and suggest we use it as a real poster to advertise!
Overall I had a lot of fun with this assignment. I am really enjoying all the design assignments for this week!
For this assignment I decided to use Canva to make a Karaoke night poster that I would see on a college campus like ours. The bright colors not only represent the 80’s but would also be to catch a student’s eye while they are quickly walking through campus. I incorporated the famous ABBA song “Dancing Queen” in the middle of the poster saying “Lets live out our 80’s dreams and be dancing queens” because lets be honest, who doesn’t want to dance to ABBA. This looks like an appealing poster that I would be interested in learning more about. Canva was a very easy website to use and I will definitely be using it again in the future!
I was browsing through the assignment bank and saw the Event Poster assignment. It caught my eye because the example was the Stark Expo and I just recently found my love for the Marvel Universe so I thought it was pretty clever.
I then knew I wanted to do this assignment too for something fictional. I love stories and books so I had plenty of ideas for what to do.
BTW, the purpose of this assignment is pretty self-explanatory. Create a poster for an upcoming event.
After browsing through my mind of what story I could make an event for, I settled on one of my favorites, It.
In the book and the new movie, they start out in the present day with the murder of a character named Adrian at the Derry fair, which then introduces Pennywise the clown.
From what I remember, the fair isn’t a big deal in the book because it just sets the scene for the murder of Adrian. However, in the new movie, there is a scene added where Pennywise preys on another child at the carnival. So, the carnival is pretty important in the most recent movie.
After I got the carnival idea, I went and grabbed a picture of the infamous clown funhouse from the movie. I used Pixlr to edit out the background other funhouse picture and then added a carnival pattern background. I wanted to do something more than a basic poster so I could try my hand at some Photoshop.
I then took my combined picture and posted it on Canva because I am more familiar with how their text works and they have a lot of different fonts to offer. I added the title, activities, and location/dates. The biggest issue with htis part was trying to get the words to show up because the background was so colorful. I changed to color and size a bunch of times, and then added something a little transparent in the background to make the text stand out.
It needs some work, but I’m pretty proud of it. Check it out!
This is the original link to the assignment. I decided to create a poster to advertise my groups radio podcast on the 80s theme. I created this in Canva and chose the poster template. I think this poster looks ‘poppy’ and grabs the viewers eyes. I used white for the text lettering against the background to make it pop. I was excited to create this poster because we will be having our podcast soon!
I was thrilled to create this assignment because, I actually have an event to promote. This poster is for the Halloween’s event class council is having on October 30th. Come out and enjoy free candy, go through the haunted walk and, get a free t-shirt (also designed by me). I used the Canva site (completely free) to create this design.
This is a design assignment worth 3 stars! For this assignment, I was tasked to create a poster for an event! As the secretary and social media director of UMW’s Creative Writing Club, I designed a minimalist-style event poster for our weekly meetings!
I made this poster on autodraw.com, which seems to be my savior this week. I drew a book and pen and the site gave me options to choose from some nice icons. I made sure to include the most important details about the club such as the meeting time and place as well as our email! I also wanted to put our Twitter and Instagram info on there, but I feel like the poster would have looked too busy if I put it on there. I also wasn’t sure how to center everything nicely.
For the colors, I didn’t want to put anything on that was too bright, but I still wanted it to pop. I chose pastel pink and white over a gray background so you can clearly read everything. The icons are simple and convey what we do at Creative Writing Club which is you know…write!
This assignment was relaxing and useful to get my club some publicity! Email [email protected] if you’re interested in joining!
For 3 stars, I designed a poster for an upcoming event. I have already been advertising this poster for my rugby teams family day event on Oct 5th! It is our first home game of the season so we are all pumped about it.
This is the link to the 3 star original assignment. I decided to create an advertisement for George Strait’s upcoming show at Innsbrook After Hours. One of his songs came out in the 80s and is one of my all time favorite country songs. I created this advertisement on Canva. I got the picture of George Strait from the internet. I think this turned out great, with the background yellow and looks like a barn, creating the country tone. I added a cowboy hat to add to the country 80s theme as well. Strait has retired and does not do tours anymore, but he does play in Texas where he currently lives at. Let me know what you guys think of my poster!
Something I always wished I could do and was good at is Photoshop and graphic design. I am horribly un-creative and struggle greatly trying to think up of anything unique. However, I do like to challenge myself and see if I can do something, even if I don’t think I can.
While figuring out my last assignment I wanted to do, my suite-mate saw the post about making a poster. She immediately told me I should do that one, as she loves editing photos and videos. Because she has the programs on her computer, knows her way around them, and this was something I was interested in doing, I agreed.
Because we had to have some assignments related to this semester’s theme, the 80’s, my suite-mate gave me some retro, 80’s based inspirations. I explained how I wanted to do the poster, we worked together on Photoshop to complete that goal. I know nothing on how to work on it, so she mostly helped me with the mechanics while I picked what we did and what to do. The program kept failing us and both my suite-mate and I were extremely frustrated. Eventually, after what felt like hours and oceans of tears, we completed the fake poster.
Whenever I look at this poster, I think of how much work was put into this. I see how this was also more bonding time with one of my best friends, my suite-mate. I mostly did this to see how hard it would be to create a simple poster from scratch. To say the least, it was extremely difficult, and I didn’t even do it alone. I don’t know how professionals in society and social media do this constantly. It takes an extreme amount of patience, creativity, and hard work. I’m really proud of the poster my suite-mate and I made, and I want to try to expand my horizons more because of this experience!
Description of Activity: “Design a poster for an upcoming event, it could be a concert, a car show, really anything you want, the event can even be made up. Be creative and have fun with it. When you finish your poster, advertise it on your social media accounts so people will know about the event.”
