poetry art & design

This is building off of the Poetry Art assignment and is an exercise how design choices can change a message. Put your selected poem together with a background that emphasizes the message. Then make 3 different versions by varying the typeface, type layout, and type color to see how it impacts the message over all.

The first thing I did was search for a poem I wanted to use, and found a haiku I liked on called “Over the Wintry” by Natsume S?seki on readpoetry.com.

Then, I made a Canva account and learned how to use it. I created a poster for the poem and picked a background image that I thought emphasized the message.

In my first version of the poem, I used a white type color, but it sort of blended into the background a little too much.

So, for the second version I changed the font, size, and color, which stood out more, but I was not liking the yellow. I thought the first version gave off a more calming vibe and fit the winter theme more.

For the last version, I changed the font, size, and color. It definitely changed the impact of the message. Even just making these small changes in each version changed the message it was giving.
