Life Amongst the Corgis

This would be the cover of my autobiography, fer sure. The original picture if from this site.

I tried changing the saturation and making it look cool, but it just wasn’t looking good with the color of the corgis and such. I don’t have any corgis yet, but I plan on having a corgi corral in my back yard. It is going to happen.

Anywho, to do this I took the picture and opened it in GIMP. I messed around with the rotation of the picture by going to Image>Transform>Rotate until it ended up like this. Then I came up with my lovely title and made it purple, of course and stuck my name on the bottom, in another lovely shade of purple and called it a two star day.

Movies to icons

Another ds106 assignment. We had to break a movie down into four icons. Virtual cookies to whoever gets it.

Hint: They’re questing to bring something to somewhere before someone gets it first.

Hint: This movie features a swashbuckling pirate, a prince, a Thracian ambassador, a slobbery dog, and a chaos-loving goddess.

Music is Life

My life revolves around music. Music is one of my main types of communication. Words that I couldn’t say, I would find a song that stated how I felt and played it for the person, or ask the person to listen to it. I was always on the top of my music but listening to all types of music and trying my hardest to relate to it. When I seen I could design my own autobiography cover, I knew exactly what I wanted.

I started this collage by finding a picture of something dealing with music and had a heart in it. When I came across this picture on “PicsArt” I downloaded it to the “PicsArt” program. I then clicked “Add Text” and added the words “musics speaks to my heart” and dragged it onto the picture. I chose to add the text so people could know exactly what music does for me and why I love it so much.

Unexpected…

Hey guys :) Here’s my 3rd ds106 assignment for this section :D

For this one, I decided to do a Design Assignment because I’ve never touched on this section before :) The assignment was called Design the cover of your autobiography and here are the directions:

Design (using any programs you want) the cover of your autobiography. What pictures would you include? What would you title it?
Make sure it really shows off who you are what you want your audience to see in you by the cover.

The Process:

First, I went to flickr to get the image for my autobiography cover.

This is a picture by Silverblack.

Then I went to picnik to edit my picture. I first used the Lomo-ish effect to strengthen the colors of the image :)

Then, I added the Soften effect as well :D

Then, I went ahead and put my title and my name onto the cover :)

So, here’s my finished product :D

The Story:

When I was looking for my picture, I first thought about using a picture of the sky. However, I thought that really didn’t show my personality. Since my friends tell me that my personality is fun and energetic, I wanted a picture with lots of colors in it :D (And because I just love color xD)

People might be thinking, “Well, why ‘Unexpected’ for the title?” The reason is because I’m not the typical Japanese girl. I’ve grown up going to an international school and I think I’m a lot more out spoken and crazy compared to the Japanese girls. (Although I may be shy in front of people I don’t know…)

Autobiography Cover

The Assignment-

This assignment really stood out to me. The details are as follows,

Design (using any programs you want) the cover of your autobiography. What pictures would you include? What would you title it?
Make sure it really shows off who you are what you want your audience to see in you by the cover.

Basically, one must take a picture, and add text which symbolizes their existence. Wow.

The Process-

The first step I took with this assignment was to think of a title. The one I chose was the product of some soul-searching a while back. Perhaps a year ago, I had to stop my seemingly busy life to figure out my purpose. I came up with the idea, “I want to save the world, by teaching people to save themselves.” I will elborate more on this in the section below. For this assignment, I took that quote and changed it around a bit.

Saving the world- One person at a time. I decided to find a picture of planet Earth to complement this idea, after an advanced image search on Flickr I found this one:

Original Picture: Earth Horizon  by DonkeyHotey through Creative Commons

After that it was a simple matter of adding the title. I decided on the font “Narkisim” which I found appealing.

The Story-

The thought of creating an autobiography is a very complex assignment which requires self-reflection and vision. How does one take a photo and one sentence to describe the very essence of their existence? This is the task I have set to accomplish with this assignment.

I have always had a sense of duty, nay, a need to help people. Call it altruistic, or kindness, whatever this may be has lead to the idea that 1) the world is suffering 2) there is a solution and 3) I am able to make a difference. But how can this be done? I have always wondered. Perhaps it is the reason for my chosen career path of international diplomacy. I want to bring peace and cooperation wherever I go. Even if it is not on the grand international scale, deep down, I want people around me to be happy.

This age in my life is truly the time where we set in stone the person we are going to be for the rest of our lives. Because of this,  I have spent many hours in self-reflection and deep thought, wondering what type of person I want to be. To aid me in this endeavor, over the ages I have looked to famous quotations. Here are a few that are guiding me now.

Be the change you want to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi

Hold a picture of yourself long and steadily enough in your mind’s eye, and you will be drawn toward it. Napoleon Hill

Saving the world one person at a time is a play on my original resolution to save the world by teaching people to save themselves. I strongly agree with leading by example. If I am a strong, well-centered individual, I feel that people around me will also work towards bettering themselves. In this way I teach people to save themselves, and if everyone could do the same we can make a difference in the heart of the world.

Autobiography Cover

I chose to do this design assignment because I really enjoyed the idea of using a picture and titling it to represent my life. It’s hard to come up with a title for your life I soon found out the hard way. However, I finally decided on a title I found to be fitting, “Life… Continue reading →

Living Freely

For my next DS106 assignment, Design the Cover of Your Autobiography, I chose to work with my own photograph (taken in Yokohama), as an autobiography is something of a personal matter, fiction or not.

This picture may seem quite spartan, however, the subtle meaning it has beat out other images in my collection that had much more action going on inside them. While I feel my life has been quite exciting since I came to Japan, I hoped that by gazing on this photo you get the sense of freedom that I have felt in my life, in contrast to a photograph of something that I had actually done.

You may be asking: Why is that? Wouldn’t it be more interesting the other way around?

Words and pictures are very similar, so it is necessary that in order to transmit the concept and feeling that I have in my mind to you, the reader, it is important that my picture is something that everyone who sees it can relate too. How many times can you recall looking up into the sky seeing birds pass above you?

I’m sure many of you can think of at least a couple instances where that has happened. Do you remember any thoughts or feelings of wanting to fly away, to be free like those birds you saw passing overhead into the horizon?

Again, I can almost positively say that everyone at some point in their life wanted to defy gravity, to fly away from the earth, to be unrestricted by borders or boundaries.

This picture, I hope, can help transmit that feeling of freedom more than anything. The text, as you may notice, is merely supplemental in getting you, the viewer of the image, to think towards that end.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my picture of what my autobiography cover would look like.

Please feel free to comment below and tell me what you think! I’d love to know if you ever dreamed of flying away to somewhere new before, as well!

Thank you!

Design the Cover of Your Autobiography

Autobiography design cover

I chose a picture of myself for this assignment because anyone who knows me, knows that i love to take pictures of myself and it was only right that my cover be a picture of myself. I labeled it my true self because it would talk about how i overcame my fears and was able to finally be my true self.

Design Assignment: Autobiography Cover

tunnellight

I chose the assignment of designing a autobiography cover if I were to ever write one. I used the website Picnik to play with the effects and add text to my picture. I chose a picture of a tunnel with a light at the end. My life seems to always feel as if there are dead ends, but then hope steps in and the light emerges. The best title for this cover would be, “There is always light at the end of the tunnel,”signifying no matter how hard life can get the light will guide you through the mess… always.
