Love Letters: Part 2

DS106 Assignment:

Make a creative Valentine’s Day card.

The Process:

This was done completely in Photoshop. Just for fun, I created the Pokeball from scratch.

The Story:

I recommend to pay the extra few dollars for a Hallmark card if you don’t want to be rejected. Go for one that sings.

…This card would be even more epic if it played “Gotta Catch ‘em All’ when you opened it! : P

A Valentine day Card for all of you. ;)

This assignment was to make a Valentines day card because recent ones that are available on shelves are trash. So I chose to create this design assignment. Not sure if its better though.

First I found a good picture on google to use as my backround. Then thought of a nice little poem while still giving my personal opinion on the holiday itself. Typed theĀ texed in the box did a little color manipulation.Ā And thus created a card. Thought it might be a goodĀ assingment after the scary poem I posted before this.

Happy Valentineā€™s Day from Nurse Ratched and McMurphy

From Me 2 You

The Cuckoo would have come home to roost if things were just a little different at the mental institution.

You can thank Usher’s “Twork it Out” for bringing this wayward couple together. It was touch and go for a long time, but we all knew that this is how the story should have really turned out.

You can also thank the lovely iPhone app PolyMagic, the font From Me 2 You, and this background of hearts for making this special Alt Valentine’s Day Card possible.

I love you DS106 so much!

Valentineā€™s Day Caption Challenge for #ds106

I was in Urban Outfitters the other day and stumbled across a postcard pack labeled “Unbridled Passion” by Franco Accornero.

It’s a collection of 30 different postcards from an artist who has painted more than 5,000 romance novel covers (as well as westerns, thrillers and sci-fi books). The postcards are really ridiculous on their own, but I thought for this Valentine’s day I would make them even funnier but adding my own captions.

That’s where the 2012Ā Valentine’s Day Caption Challenge for #ds106 comes into play: I challenge you to Ā make your own captions for these postcards! Not only will you help make V-Day funny, but you will also be completing DesignAssignment61.

All of these postcards can be found un-altered on my flickr account (download them and get to work!)

Happy Valentineā€™s Day

On this Valentine’s Day, I have decided to do something that will thrill my husband more than just about any other gift.Ā  I give him the gift of a Nerd Valentine.

(If you aren’t sure who this is, just look up “Apple” on the google machine. He’s pretty famous.)

This one was pretty easy.Ā  Picked out a picture, opened it up in Fireworks, thought and thought about something clever, used the text tool and voila! done!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Nerd Valentinesā€¦ the Sequel

Valentines day is upon us again and I decided to create nerd valentines for the second year in a row. What’s more is I’m posting this BEFORE Valentines day, instead of a day late like last year. This year’s crop includes more Star Trek, some Community and one from Doctor Who. (Let it be known I watch entirely too much television). There’s only five right now but there’s still a couple days so I might make some more.
The first one is from NBC’s Community. Nothing really fancy. One of Abed’s frequent lines is “Cool Cool Cool” so I just tweaked it a bit.
The second one is also from Community. It specifically references the episode “Remedial Chaos Theory” in which Abed tells another character that he is creating six different timelines by rolling a die to decide who goes and gets the pizza. This Valentine combines that with passing notes in elementary school.

The next one is Doctor Who themed, can’t get much nerdier than that. The Doctor is an alien called a Time Lord. As you can, hopefully, tell from the valentine he has two hearts so that’s explains the phrase on this one.

If there is something nerdier than Doctor Who I’m going to say Star Trek. This fourth one has Mongomery Scott on it. He’s an Engineer aboard the Starship Enterprise. As many people know one of his quotes is “I’m giving her all she’s got Captain!” And that was the basis for this Valentine.
The final one is Captain James Tiberius Kirk, again from Star Trek.Ā  One of the settings on their guns phasers is stun. It’s super cheesy but that’s what I was aiming for.

Valentines Alternative

_cokwr: Valentines day is lame and the cards are worse. Make a good one targeted towards a particular person (real or imaginary)., _cpzh4: Design, _cre1l: http://thefoxisblack.com/2011/02/11/wiedenkennedy-valentine-cards/, _chk2m: Tom, _ciyn3: 61, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

"ToGetHer" sounds so sweet.

Valentines Alternative ds106

The assignment was to make a Valentines card
targeted toward a particular person (real or imaginary).

My first plan was to make a card with the word “ToGetHer”.
just because it sounds really nice
and it was easy to memorize the spelling back in elementary school.

I used our good old friend, Paint.

I really like Paint, just because it is really simple and easy to use.
Although some people say it’s one of those crappy software,
it’s really useful once you really know how to use it.

So.

At the top of the card, it says “Together Forever”
since it has to be targeted towards someone.

Staying together forever must be hard
unless you really love that person…
I envy some old grannies who looks happy together.

Then there’s that symbol of heart.

Below that are two circular “stuff”.
They are stuck together
forever
but they look happy because they love each other.

My first plan was to draw human boy and girl,
but I wanted to express in the simplest form as possible.
I thought of using stick figures too,
 but it became too simple.

The bottom Japanese line says
?????? “airabyu”
Short way of writing “I love you” in ro-maji.

I chose to write it in this way because
I thought that writing “I love you” is too formal.
Since the circular figures are not formal at all,
I wanted to express their looseness in this last line.

(?=?=Ā“)????????

A day lateā€¦ but Nerd Valentines

This is a day late but I wanted to make these, and I had no time before this.

The first one is from Firefly where shiny means “good, great, neat, cool etc.”

Second one is Star Trek. Sure Vulcans don’t show emotion buuuut I don’t care. I wanted to make cheesy valentines.

The next two are from Lord of the Rings. Couldn’t decide which creepy valentine inspired by Lord of the Rings I liked better.

And the last is Star Wars.Ā  It was my favorite I think. Took the idea from Obi Wan’s line “These are not the droids you are looking for.”

These were quickly done so they’re not the best. I just wanted to get them out before it was two days after valentines day.
