I’ve fused together the news website One America News with the home webpage for the University of Mary Washington, to create the wonderful abomination One America News of the University of Mary Washington (OANUMW). The combined website has University of Mary Washington’s main navigation bar and yellow notice at the top, but with elements of One America News’ main webpage fused into the design, such as the search bar. Beneath the navigation is One America News’ main headline article for the day, with a mix of One America News and University of Mary Washington headlines within the UMW in the News bar to the right. Towards the bottom is University of Mary Washington news articles with One America News’ red coloration.

This was created by using Google Chrome’s Inspect Element functionality to manually interlace the HTML code of UMW’s home page with segments of code taken from OAN’s front page, which allowed the website to actually somewhat function. Most of the news article links, for example, would still work and lead to their respective page on either website. I thought it would be funny to see what the two would look like together, since both websites had news, but with different political leanings. The original links to both websites are https://www.umw.edu for UMW’s website, and https://www.oann.com for OAN’s website.

For this assignment, we had to mash up two website logos to create a new logo and a new site for the new logo. For this one, I started with just wanting to mash-up Google and Facebook. But I wanted to take a step further and also mash Instagram into there.

Here is the logo when it was just Google and Facebook:

I used the font from Facebook and the colors from Google.

Then I decided to combine instagram to it as well. Here is that one:

For this one, I used the colors of the work from Google, kept the name Facebook, took the blue color from the Facebook logo for the Instagram logo, used the camera logo from instagram and used the font from Instagram for the name as well.

The site that goes along with this new logo is a site where you post pictures and videos, can friend people, and can use it like a search engine. A perfect combination of websites that people use everyday.

I really really enjoyed this assignment. I thought it combined the best parts of what we’ve learned so far in class.

PS: This assignment is worth 2.5 stars…total of 9.5/8 stars this week so all done with mash-up assignments for the week!

I wrapped up my assignments with the Twittr assignment for 2.5 stars. I tried to think of an unusual mix, and came up with SoundBook. This is a mix of Soundcloud and Facebook. It is essentially soundcloud with more of a social spin. Users can create statuses and upload pictures/videos in addition to uploading their tracks. This allows upcoming artists’ fans to get to know them more personally while still staying involved in their music. Here is the graphic:
