Remix #1: Music mash & the color pink

Here’s my remixed song about pink stuff.

Soundcloud repetitively blocked my remix, so I’m attempting to embed it here. If it doesn’t work here, leave me a message with your email and I can send it that way!

I had fun with this remix assignment, the page that gave me the information was as shown below:

I used a youtube video to MP3 website to get the two original files, then I decided which one I liked more, and how I could blend them. I used a DJ turn table sound in the second song to mask the transition, and make it flow more effectively. I did all of the edits that I mentioned in Audacity, as always. Honestly, I think it turned out to be a pretty dang catchy song! I’m pretty happy with it. I think the transition from song A to song B couldn’t have gone much more smoothly- given the differences between the song genres that I started with.

Remix Generator

For this Assignment we had to combine songs together to make remixes, but I did the Remix it button which made me mash up a random song with a military effects. So I found military effects and combined them with one of my favorite songs – which is Photograph by Ed Sheeran. Here is my mash up! This Assignment has 3 stars, which completes my 12 stars of assignment banks!

Enjoy!

Music MashUp

Original Assignment

I mixed together a few songs that I thought were very dissimilar and the result was pretty cool. I just uploaded all three songs into audacity and proceeded to clip and edit tracks until I had the first part down. The last part of the song is just the song “thunderstruck” because it would have taken me about 2 hours to mash together an entire full length song.

Runway Mix

Mashup Assignment

For one of Brooke’s final steps of preparation for her big day was creating a playlist for her part of the fashion show. I decided to create a music mash up clip of what the music would be like at the show. I didn’t want to make it an hour long mashup mix because that would bore anyone who was reviewing this, and I know it would not get listened to. Therefore, I made it short enough to get the idea of what types of songs will be played. The few songs I did choose, I didn’t want there to be a lot of words if any played, because I was more focused on the beats instead of the songs having words to keep the attention focused on her clothes and the models at the runway show.

I went to YouTube, and searched for runway instrumental music and listened to a variety of clips before deciding which to use in the mashup. I then downloaded the music clips I wanted to use, for this assignment I used 4 just to give everyone an idea of what the music would be like. After downloading each music clip to my computer.

AUD

I opened up Audacity and opened each clip individually, under the file tab and then clicked on “open”. After opening each one of the four clips, I cut and pasted each one to have them play one after the other. I then used the effect option at the top of the toolbar and chose fade in and fade out option to create a smooth transition between songs. After editing it completely I saved it and uploaded it to soundcloud.

Second assignment choice, Music Mash!

If you pay attention to my blog, you can tell my life revolves around music so why not chose a music mashup assignment! I am very proud of this assignment, because I managed to cohesively mash parts of 4 songs together and make my own mini song. Here are the lyrics if your interested:

“i did it for the girl, she was like oh my god, its a small town throw down time to tall boy up let them tailgates down, lets get this thing started its my kinda party”

music mash

Definitely sounds like it describes me! For this one I was thinking a while about which lyrics I could blend and it would make sense and luckily I am really good with remembering lyrics and I used my favorite songs. Using my audio cutter app (which it won’t let me link for some reason) I cut clips from each song and used Audio Assistant to merge them together and save a final track.

Music Mash!! – (3 Stars)

When I saw this assignment, I knew wanted to do this one. We had to put different clips of music and sound effects together. The process to create this was fun and simple, I am very familiar with Audacity, and it was fun to play around with the music and sound effects. Every time I use Audacity, I am able to pick up new techniques that make it much easier to create and edit the music.

I wanted the music mashup to be uptempo and songs people would know. I combined some AC/DC songs TNT and You Shook Me All Night. I also added in some sound effects one of a motorcycle taking off and a gun being shot. I also added some popular songs from today’s music. I added Come With Me Now  by the KONGOS and Drunk In Love by Beyonce. I didn’t really want to overlap the songs because it would make it more difficult to hear the songs, so I decided to find common words the songs had and interconnect them like that.

I am a huge fan of music, I love listening to all types of music EXCEPT country. I use of all types of music for different aspects, Rock’N’Roll and Hip-Hop for getting pumped for sports events. I will listen all types of music while I am walking to class or driving somewhere. No matter if it is a woman or man singing as long as I enjoy it, I will listen to it. Music is a great storytelling tool to show how the songwriter feels and the music can connect to the listeners emotions. Overall, I am very please with with how my music mashup was put together and I hope everyone enjoys it.

Tutorial For Assignment:

The process to create this is not very difficult. I use Audacity to edit and put the music and sound effects together. Any of the music I use I get off of YouTube.

Step 1:

Take the song you want to import into Audacity. Copy the URL link of the song from YouTube. Then Paste the URL into YouTube MP3 converter. Then click “Convert Video” and then click the download button wait for the song to download into your computer files.

tutorial 1

Step 2:

After it downloads, go to your computer files and find the “Downloads” folder and scroll through until you find the name of the song. After you find the file click on it and drag it into the Audacity and the song should just load in and you are ready to edit it. You can also continue to add in more music in sound effects the same way through the YouTube converter.

Tutorial 3

Step 3:

In Audacity, you can delete sections of a song and connect them along with other songs, there is a tutorial online that explains all of the tools Audacity has and how to use them. After you complete your project, click “file” and then “Save Project as.” This only saves the project in Audacity. To save the project into your computer so you can upload it, click on “File” and then “Export Audio.” From here you choose where you want to save the music file, for me I put it under “music” in my computer drive.

Tutorial 4

Step 4:

After saving it to your computer you can then upload it to Soundcloud, Login into your account in Soundcloud then click the “upload” button. After that you click on “choose a file” then you will go into your computer files and click on wherever you saved it in your computer. After that you can add tags and a title once it is done processing, click “Save.” Then you can go find your track on your account and you are Done!

The Music Mash (he did the music mash)

Radio Channel Flipping.  I think everyone’s done it before, especially when you’re bored in traffic on the road or something.  I bet it was just as popular back in the 50s, when Radio was King, as Channel Surfing is today.

I made a little piece that simulates the radio searching experience, using the unused pieces of other people’s projects.  I’m so environmentally friendly.  All five of the required reused pieces are in there–plus a little bit of my own spin.  Well, enjoy.

Mash up: Elle Goulding

For 3 out of 7 stars of my mashup assignments, I decided to remix my three favorite Elle Goulding songs. In this remix is Starry Eyed, Lights, and Anything Could Happen.

These songs are very similar in sound, but all sound different at the same time. This is a remix because I took three “old” things and created one “new” thing out of one.

I took the piano from Lights and copied and pasted it multiple times to create the piano in the background. I amplified it and used phaser on it to make it “dip” like it does.

Then I took Anything Could Happen as a base for the rest of it. I added bits and pieces from both Starry Eyed and Lights into it. Sometimes it sounds choppy and I’m un sure how to fix this totally. I faded them in and faded them out.
Overall, I like the remix. It’s almost too similar for my tastes, like I needed a different drum or something, but I wanted to keep it within the same three songs.

Music Mashups

Earlier this week I made the huge mistake of doing mashup assignments instead of remix assignments.. It was embarrassing.  Here is another assignment from the mashups that I finished, but had just not posted.  The assignment - Take clips from different songs and mash them up into something fun. Try to use random effects and cross music genres.

I made two of these.  The first one was a mess, so I tried again but approached it differently.  I give artists like Girl Talk credit for their work, because finding combinations of music that sounds good is not easy, for me at least.  I basically chose songs that I really enjoy, and I went from there.

Here’s my first try:

The songs:

  • “The Funeral” – Band of Horses
  • “Wash.” – Bon Iver
  • “Blood Bank” – Bon Iver
  • “You Know What I Mean” – Cults
  • “You and I” - Ingrid Michaelson
  • “Wanna Be (Ft. Lily Allen)” - Dizzee Rascal
  • “Be Ok” - Ingrid Michaelson
  • “Favourite Colour” – Tokyo Police Club

For my second try I wanted to tell a story, so I chose my music accordingly. I was kind of inspired by the movie, Greece, but what might more realistically happen.  Girl likes boy, boy not interested, girl tries hard to get boy, boy likes girl, they don’t get along, they fight, they break up.

Songs:

  • “Little Bit” - Lykke Li
  • “Bunny Ain’t No Kind Of Rider” – Of Montreal
  • “We R Who We R” – Ke$ha
  • “Dirty Hands” – The Black Lips
  • “Foundations” – Kate Nash
  • “Kiss with a Fist” – Florence and the Machine
  • “Addicted to Love” - Florence and the Machine

When I look back and compare the two projects in garageband, it’s crazy how much more organized my second project was than my first.  There is so much overlap, and adjusting the volume of individual tracks when I could have kept it more elegant by placing the tracks in the order in which they would come in the song, and then trim the rest of the song, instead of just muting it.  Here’s what I’m talking about:

Music Mashup #1 – Overlap and Track Volume Control in Action

Music Mashup #2 – How lovely, everything is trimmed and in the order in which it's presented in the song.

It was so much easier working with the second mashup.  Assignment worth 3 stars.

ds106 Assignment – Music Mash

So today I decided to try out the ds106 assignment Music Mash  In this assignment I had to take clips from different songs and mash them up.

at first I was not sure what I would do… but in the end I decided to just mix up random tracks I have using Audacity . a free audio editing program.

I put in clips from 7 different songs I had in my itunes

Hora de verdad by Vandalusia?

???????????????????????? by ????????

Der Wald by ??????

Samba de Aspel by Anemo-Aspel

Princess Roki by Akino

??? ?Hysteric Rondo? by miu?myu

Betty-boo by Senax

Using Audacity I clipped parts of each track, and messed around with pitch, tempo, speed and such (all the fun things you can do on Audacity)

In the end I ended up with a weird….thing…

You can listen to it here on Soundcloud
