For this assignment, two video game covers needed to be combined into one game. I chose to do Call of Duty and Destiny for the two games. I think this turned out pretty good! It was rather easy to make but I guess that is why it was only worth two and a half stars. I started off my gathering two pictures from each game, then I collaged them into one picture and found a way to write on the picture using an app.
One of my favorite video games growing us was Mario Kart. I used to sit with my brother and play it for hours. In fact to this day I still my Nintendo 64. My brother and I fought for hours on who would take the Nintendo when we both moved out. That is one reason why I jumped at the idea of remixing a video game cover.
Fast forward to a more adult and sophisticated Amanda her favorite video game is the Sims. So I decided to merge the past and the present for my remix.
It was simple and easy to make. I simple used the program canva to create my cover. One of the more tricky aspects of it was the Sims symbol above the heads.
I used Photoshop to cut it out and place them over the heads of the Mario characters.
To cut something out on Photoshop, you simply used the
Lasso tool, select the parts you want to keep, and erase the rest. Viola! You have the process I used to create this remixed video game cover.

For my video game mashup worth 4 stars I choose Amnesia and Dark Souls. Both are two of the hardest and creepiest games I have ever played and watched youtubers play. I made the assignment a little bit of my own though. Both Video Covers do not allow much for interpretation or adding pictures without being incredibility awkward. So, I incorporated both titles and two main elements of the game in my mash up collage.
I made the mash up with Picasa and found all my photos on youtube. This assignment was fun for me and after finals I sure know how I will spend my time now.
This week I created a mashup assignment called Video Game Cover Mashup. As a big fan of video games, I’ve always appreciated the artistic styling and designs that go into creating these games. I thought it would be a cool idea to mashup a few of the most iconic video game covers and create something almost entirely new.
I decided to complete this assignment myself combining two video games called Grand Theft Auto V and Mortal Kombat. Initially, I didn’t think completing this assignment on my own would be that difficult. But, after getting the idea in my head, I knew I had the follow through with it. I used the GTA5 theme as the base and added mortal combat characters into the side panelings to round out the image. This is the original GTA5 cover and these are a few of the pictures I used from Mortal Kombat. In all, the concept isn’t the most difficult but for me it was very time consuming and I think worthy of 4 Stars.
Tutorial:
1. I started out with the original GTA5 cover in Pixlr.
2. I then erased the pictures that I intended to replace.
3. I substituted these pictures using copy and paste then changed the title to match my intention.
In the end, I was very happy with my end result and I think it was a worthy submission to the assignment bank. I think video game covers are one of the most mashable pieces of content and can create some really cool looking designs.
This assignment will be completed through the use of photoshop. Take two existing video game covers and mash them up so that both can be identified but in a different style. Try to be creative in the title and artistic design.
