Picture a day

For this assignment, I took a picture a day from Saturday through Friday. I used imovie to then combine the images and turn it into a movie. I had to line up the faces so it looked better!

Smile! You’re on “Candid Camera!”

You’ve probably seen those videos where people take a photo of themselves every day for a year or seven years or some crazy length of time. Make a DS106 version! Take a photo of yourself every day for a week (7 days, 5 if you’re lazy), and put them into a video. Try to make your face line up in the video for a seamless transition.

“A Week in Five Frames,” my first official foray into the world of mashups, is an example of “A Picture A Day,” which is exactly what it says on the tin. After taking five photographs of myself from November 16-20, I edited them together to make a seven-second video, where every frame, including the opening and closing credits, lasted for precisely one second, and no longer. Thankfully, the pictures I chose kept a specific theme of moving the camera slightly, while my eyes still kept their focus on the lens as it moved. Since some of the assignments we’re allowed to take part in include recycling old footage, I decided to use the drumroll intro from my Morse Code Challenge as the basic theme for my video. The timing of the cymbal crash, with the final photo’s reveal, makes everything worth it for me on that front. The illusion of the camera moving while the shots are counted off was also my idea, as it really felt like a stop-motion version of a home movie, with the pan-and-scan “effect” coming along nicely, to say nothing of having the eyes stay focused on the lens at all times, like a modern-day Mona Lisa. After the editing process was completed, I saved it on Windows Live Movie Maker, and uploaded it onto my YouTube channel, for three-and-a-half stars.

One Photo A Day

For this mashup assignment I had to take one selfie everyday and combine them into a video. I decided to take up the part of my host character because I don’t typically dress nicely everyday and since she has a job she would look nice everyday. So here is my video of Eve Winters taking a picture a day.

I really enjoyed this assignment because for a second week in a row I got to portray my host character everyday. I love taking up the part of my host character because it is something different from my usual day and it allows me to be more creative.

Photo A Day Assignment

For my second new assignment, I decided to create a mash up assignment called “Picture A Day.” The idea of the assignment is to take a picture of yourself every day for a week, and make it into a video. Not only should it be a week long effort, but it should attempt to tell some kind of story about your week or how something changed.

I got the idea from the classic “Noah” video, where a guy takes a photo of himself every day for 7 years.

While these projects obviously take a lot longer than a week, they are a great way to show change. The man in the video above used his project as a way to showcase how he has grown older and changed. In the video below, a man used it to show his journey walking through China. It’s a really neat, visual way to keep track.

While my video is nowhere as impressive as walking through China, I used mine to document my week of Thanksgiving break. I tried to take the same type of picture every day, but I messed up a few times- specifically on Thanksgiving when I had completely forgotten to take a picture, so I took an awkward selfie with some cornbread and a stone turkey.

2 1/2 stars

This video documents me leaving for break, coming home, sleeping for three days (I’m wearing the same shirt in three pictures, which is only slightly embarrassing.) There is also a hysterical picture from the Wednesday before Thanksgiving when it snowed! I tried to take a photo outside to show my dissatisfaction, but the whole thing got blown out weirdly. Still might be one of my favorite photos though. The last photo in the series is from right before I drove back to school. I really miss my dog when I’m not home, so I let her have a cameo in the final picture.
