Week 12

I enjoyed this week! Even though I had 3 papers and 1 exam I was able to complete the assignments. I think video is just extremely hard to complete because it takes so many factors, and all the mashup stars I chose this week were visual design/photo tasks.Ā I receive more entertainment from creating designs and pictures because theres more structure, video is more free and I find it more work. I even got commenting in this week!!

Incorporating my character into an image, I used her form as a leopard, I wanted to show her being able to walk around without being noticed in the dark. The background was an image of the dinning hall on UMW’s campus that I took at night.

For her closeup I used a free photo of a worried woman in a hat in the sun, and used my own photo from Kenya to make the background. It was supposed to be Aitana right after she left the statue and was running away and trying to understand why she felt different than before.

For the two other assignments I did design projects, one was mashing up two different logos to make them look as one. I did Pepsi and Coke combined into one soda logo!

The last assignment involved contrasting an emoji and human. I chose my step-mom who welded and used that picture of here from her fb profile and the dark-haired, girl, welder emoji. I was so into this assignment that I also made my tutorial on it!

For the remixes I also chose one photo editing and poster design. I got to photoshop (but really just used Preview app) myself into a different “universe” and for that I made myself sit on the plane of a wing (both photos were mine). An then altered the color to look drastically unpleasant and unrealistic.

The other remix I did was of a lost and found poster. I remixed it to “the opposer” and instead made a flyer forĀ selling the hat/trying to get rid of it instead of find it.

The two daily creates I did were more opinion based than “creative” this week. First the account had simply stated “Sadie Hawkins Day” and I looked up the link they gave, it provided background to the dance I was aware of but never went to growing up. I stated:

The second T.D.C. was captioning a cartoon image, I found this was funny and came up with two captions just because I enjoyed it so much:

My group got the “special assignment” of creating a “This week in ds106” post. Ours was on all the video assignments people made. We weren’t able to get it done until Thursday because communication was such a struggle. But we did finally get to honor the hard work of our fellow classmates!

Overall it was a busy but good week ?

Human vs. Emoji

For this assignment I used an old picture of my stepmom! As teenager she worked as a welder with her dad, I thought this picture would be a perfect comparison to the new emoji of a welder since the emoji’s are trying to represent more people everyday (currently they have just woman and men with different hair color and skin tone):

Aitana Rorcshen after the fall

This closeup photo of a worried woman in Kenya is a combination of two photos. It is Aitana Rorcshen, the woman who has just become the Shadow Leopard. This is the moment that she has awakened and is running away form the Cat statue in search of answers.

It is made up of a photo I took from the internet (labeled for reuse with modification) and a photo I took in Kenya! here are the two photos independently:

A Leopard on Campus!

I had to combine two or more images for this. I needed to show how my character (the Shadow Leopard) would use her power in everyday life. I chose a photo of mine of the UC and an iconĀ of a leopard to have her walking around at night in the shadows. The fact that she is wondering campus should be worrying! Maybe Rama has visited us without our knowing!

I also happened to use the same icon that is in my character’s logo!

Can you spot her?

DS 106 Ghost

For this assignment I searched #ds106 on instagram. I found a superimposed superman on an eyeball. I thought it was a cool concept so I tried to do the same but with my Shadow Leopard character:

The eye belongs to a villain right as the “Legendary Leopard” prepares to attack!

Chlover

My finstagram is the one I made for this class, I do not go by Chlover in my daily life, so it is my “alternate” personality. This account is owned by Chlover: a Spanish inhabitant who works at a bar and enjoys her job!

This character is unlike myself, in that I’ve never worked in a bar (though I do think it would be fun), and she is the type to drink a lot and party (I don’t do either haha). I think this would be something cool to do in my lifetime (work in Spain), but I could never see myself as a bartender.

Youā€™re Doing it Wrong

Here I found a photo of a gate that is attempting to block….golf-carts? I found it amusing as this could literally stop no one and no vehicles.

I chose this photo because this is some times how people attempt to do things, we try and completely miss the mark.

Berlin Tea Story

Tea is essential for my daily routine. I presume if I had not any tea during the day, I would sleep all day. I do not know, but I rather mind exploring this assumption.

In the ds106 audio assignment Familiar Sounds we are asked to record some sounds that are familiar to us but maybe strange to the listener. Noises from making tea may not be strange to anyone, but I added some atmosphere, with which I intend to evoke thinking of a person in an apartment house in a city. I actually wanted to create the impression of a lonely person and this way I added a music box sound. For me music boxes are a symbol of someone living in their own world with little relation to the outside. Yet the moment of sipping  tea is not any more about being lonely or living in a city, it is just a moment of peace and satisfaction.

Breakfast with some electronic friends.

The Concerned Post It

"Pass on genuine concern"

“Pass on genuine concern”

The reasoning behind this one is that genuine concern is one of the least practiced things by the average person. No one seems to be genuinely concerned for one another anymore. We can interact via the internet and hide behind avatars and text. We are more connected via data, media, and the internet than everĀ before,Ā  but we seem to be ignoring the human connection. Before you go to arms and prep your fingers to argue, think about this. When was the last time you saw someone walk up to a total stranger and after they say “ouch.” How many people keep walking when a skateboarder falls, not looking to see if they get back up ok? Heck some even laugh. I’m not saying people have to be heros or always be to the rescue. Just show some shred of concern for each other. Maybe I’m being idealistic, but is life that busy that people can’t ask, “Are you ok?” orĀ  just hold the door for the person behind you? Pay it forward. I dare you. What have you to lose?

P.S. I challenge you to come up with sound reasons why I ripped it into pieces. I’ll let you know if you are right.
