Radio bumper

I finished the radio bumper assignment for ds106 radio. I felt really stupid recording this lol. I thought Pour some sugar on me was a good song to use and I’m starting to get a hang of audacity. I never really thought about how much work must go into radio in general. It’s harder than I thought.

My Radio Bumper

This week we had to come up with a radio bumper for DS106 radio. Since this semester is Super DS106 I said Super DS106 Radio in my bumper. It was easy coming up with what to say but I with it was more original that just my name and radio name but I am not a creative audio person. I didn’t want just my voice so I added the Incredibles theme song to the background. I was not looking forward to this assignment but once I got it all figured out then I started to enjoy it.

Super Bumper

This week, we were tasked with creating a radio bumper for the DS106 radio station. In doing so, we were to use Audacity to make our bumper and then upload it to SoundCloud to be shared. I actually had a harder time downloading my bumper than I did creating my bumper. I couldn’t figure out where I was going wrong with the LAME Library installation, but really, I kept pressing close instead of open, halting the installation process, my bad.

To create my bumper, I first used the voice recorder on my computer to record my message. But I did not want my bumper to just be my voice because that would be boring. So, I went online and found free sound effects. From there, I downloaded the sound effect Transformation Invasion and added it and my voice recording in Audacity. From there, because I do not like how my voice sounds on recordings, I changed the pitch in my voice and it sounds like a different person, which is completely fine by me! Then, I listened to the finished product and downloaded it and wallah, my bumper was complete!

Bump it Up!

The other audio assignment ever was to create a radio bumper for our DS 106 radio show. A bumper is a 10-30 second pause between a commerical break and a program. You know, the things that play on your favorite radio station that go something like “back to the music faster, 13.1 Miss Runner Bug Radio Broadcasting System” :) Well here it is:

I knew that creating a radio bumper would be helpful for the DS 106 radio. {explain the story behind the work}

When I first read the assignment prompt, I was intimidated {I feel like I have said that work a lot this week, maybe it is because it’s audio week!}. But I wanted to challenge myself and I knew that I would be proud of myself when it was all done. I had already downloaded Audacity and LAME from my sound effect story assignment {you can read about all of the trouble I had with that as well as hear my sound effect story in my blog post} After I got the programs ready, I stared at the screen for a while. I went into panic mode because no ideas came into my head. So, I went for a run.

rrrrr

When I’m running, my head clears and creative ideas start flowing. When I came back, I knew what I wanted to do. I went to freesound.org to download some FREE sounds – if you didn’t figure that’s what it had from the website title. I had no idea about this site but when I was reading Karissa’s blog post, I came across the website and decided to check it out. I recorded my voice and did some layering and voilà: my radio bumper!

Want to know the funniest thing about this assignment? {besides how funny I sound with a low-pitched voice} I actually listen to radio commericials now. I know the process they had to go through to make it and I sort of appreciate {if you will} them. I wonder how long that will last – I am a stickler for being the “channel surfer” in the car!

Flexin’ My Butt

Here it is, my radio bumper. That was way easier to do than I thought. Audacity works wonders. Also, I love me some MJ. So should you. He is a genius. That’s why I picked this song. Kind of a spur of the moment thing. This might be a bit long for a bumper, but I went with my instincts on this one. Sounded like a bumper that you could hear on the radio. Anywayssssss, I hope you like eet.

Bumper buddies

One of the audio assignments we had this week was to create a bumper for ds106radio.  I chose to add some background noise because I thought it would add a nice effect to the bumper.  The bumper is short and was just meant to send a small message letting the listeners know I guess what station they are listening to, or at least thats how I perceived what a radio bumper is. I made the soundclip on audacity and found background noise on  freesound.org.  Once I put the bumper together I uploaded to soundcloud.com and added the tags AudioAssignments36 and AudioAssignments.
