Visual Assignment #6 – 1 Star

Okay, this is my last Visual Assignment.  For this one, I decided to change the color of the sky on a picture that I took at the beach.  Here is a side-by-side comparison of the two photos.

As much as I like the first one, which is completely un-changed in terms of editing, I really liked changing the yellow to a more blue hue.  It makes it feel like there is a flash going off or something is happening other than a sunset.  I, once again, used Photoshop Express Editor to change the picture and make the blue more accented.  I hope that you like the changes that I made to my photos!

Visual Assignment #5 – 2 Stars

Okay, Photoshop Express Editor definitely gets an A+ from me.  My 5th Visual Assignment was to take a picture of a normal everyday object and alter the color.  What better thing to take a picture of and change the color than a pumpkin!  Here is a side-by-side comparison of the photo that I changed the colors on.  Not only did it change the pumpkin to green, it also changed the fall tablecloth leaves green as well!

I hope that you guys like my picture and I definitely hope that you check out Photoshop Express Editor for all of the Visual Assignments that have to do with manipulating pictures.  It’s definitely the best website out there so far that I’ve found.

Visual Assignment #4 – 2 Stars

For my 4th Visual Assignment, I’m doing the Draw It assignment.  We are to take a photo and make it look like a sketch or drawing.  I used Photoshop Express Editor to make the photo look like a ‘sketch’.  I absolutely love this website, as I mentioned in my last edited photo, because it makes it so easy to alter a photo 100% within just a few seconds.  I think I edited both photos within a timeframe of one minute.  Just because I like the photo so much, I put it up on Flickr.

We took this photo last week and I thought that it would be a good one to turn into a sketch.  Hopefully you all feel the same way!  Let me know what you guys think in any comments.

Visual Assignment #3 – 1 Star

For my 3rd Visual Assignment, the assignment that I’m choosing to go with, Car Lust, is to find a picture of my dream car and write a blog about it.  First off, here is my dream car!

This would be the Lexus IS 350.  I’ve always loved the way it looks and really want it when I graduate as a present to myself.  Surprisingly, the car really isn’t that expensive.  I found the picture here.

I’ve always thought that this car just looks beautiful.  It’s one of those cars where I would never alter anything about it to make it look any better.  Lexus did a really good job with this model.  It’s both sporty and family if I want it to be.  My girlfriend has a baby, so I guess I better start thinking about that when I get my next car.  Definitely going to have something that has four doors and luckily this does!  I would say that I would be extremely happy if I owned this car one day.  I definitely don’t want my car to die, but if it does, this is going to be the next car that I get.

Visual Assignment #1 – 2 Stars

Alright, here is my first attempt at a visual assignment.  For my first visual assignment, I’m choosing to do this one.  We are to pick a photo, apply a vintage effect and then add some Helvetica font to the photo.  This one actually took me a little bit of time because I wanted to find a good website to edit photos online.  After some Googling, I ran across this website called Pixlr.  This site is absolutely amazing for editing photos and not having to download any software.  I highly recommend it for any of these Visual Assignments that we have to do this semester.  This is definitely a gem, guys.  You can upload photos for free and then edit them right in your browser and then save the file in whatever format you would like.

Okay, so I had to definitely put some thought behind this one.  I went to Cirque du Soleil a couple weekends ago with my girlfriend and managed to snap this picture. When I was flipping through my photos on trying to decide which one to choose, I ran across this and immediately just thought of trusting someone with your life.  In this instance, the guy swinging from the pole is trusting everything that he has in the person holding him to not drop him.  I couldn’t have found a more amazing photo to make vintage and add text to.  I think my selection of “Put trust in others.” is perfect for this occasion too.

I hope you guys like my photo/effect/text as much as I have!  I’m going to definitely be keeping this one as one of my favorites for sure.  Also, you can view the full picture on my Flickr site

DS106 Radio Bumper

Okay, so I wasn’t really sure as to what we were supposed to be doing for this assignment so I just kind of looked at some of my other classmates work and kind of got inspiration that way.  Thanks to all of the other blogs for giving me the help to make this Radio Bumper!

I went went a song that I really like called Earthquake.  If you listen to the video’s introduction, you can see where I got the inspiration to go with “DS106, come in.”  I think that it’s unique and it’s one of my favorite songs so thanks for checking it out!

Just like the Sound Story, I used Audacity to mix in my voice to the beat of Earthquake.  What I did, though, was recorded my voice in Soundhound and then downloaded the .wav file, imported it into Audacity, and then trimmed the clip down to just the introduction before the loop.  I exported the file and then re-uploaded it to Soundcloud and here it is!

5 Sound Story: Heart Attack

Okay, this assignment started off to be a pain in my ass (excuse my language) but I managed to fight through it and learn to love Audacity.  I’ve never used it before but had a BLAST making this clip.  I started out with about fifteen different types of clips from Freesound, but narrowed my selection down and found the right ones to use for my clip.  I managed to make it 1:30 and I think it sounds really really cool!  Definitely a lot of tension but check it out!

When I first opened up Audacity, I had no idea what I was doing.  I’m the type of person that doesn’t like to look up directions, so I played around with it until I was comfortable enough making my own clip.  Then the fun began.  I used Thunder on a loop, Heartbeat on a loop, a door opening, a creaking floor, and a crash for my five sound clips.  I think that I used them all appropriately and actually got wrapped up in the assignment I lost track of time.

My main goal was to create something that made you sit on the edge of your seat.  Being my first attempt at this, I believe that I most definitely succeeded.  I’m going to Tweet this out for sure and try to get people to comment on this because I’m proud of what I made.  It’s amazing what mashing a couple of audio clips can get you.  Definitely something fun and exciting to play around with.  I’ll be doing this a lot more with other clips in the near future.

If I had to choose, I would say that this was one of the best assignments that I’ve done so far this semester in this class.  It was a lot of fun to be able to mix and match different clips and create something of my own based on what I thought sounded the best in each spot.  I hope that you all enjoy the clip and comment for me please!

I was unaware that it was only supposed to be 60 seconds and instead, I made it 90 seconds.  I hope that Professor Burtis lets this one slide!  Just think of how much less intense it would be without those extra 30 seconds :-)
