I LIVE!

Oh Glob, how I’ve neglected you! But dry your tears, for here I am, still alive, and about to drop another load of stuff that will probably appear random, at best.  Apologies for my absence, and for this lack of ado, but here we go!

“What did I just listen to?!” you might ask, assuming you actually listened.  Well, that would be the result of assigning a phony radio broadcast to a huge nerd. Starring my buddy Bryan as Dak Territh; Keith Kilmer as Luke Skywalker; Emerald Brookins as caller 1, the “Extra-Gravity Snuggie” commercial, and the “Princess Leia Earmuff” commercial; Tonya Tyrrell as caller 2, “Sunshine Laundry” commercial, “Oxyclean” commercial, and “EnergyStar” commercial; and Greg Musselman (why am I linking this, when clearly, you already know about me!?) as Dev Kathan, lucky caller #10, and various announcers and goofy voices.

What did we think of making this monstrosity? I’m so glad you asked:

This assignment was to perform a dramatic reading of any written material, in such a way as to alter the original message. I decided to channel my inner William Shatner and do some song-talking.  I needed something that sounds ok being sung, but would be utterly ridiculous when spoken.  ”Doo Wah Diddy” (written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich) seemed the obvious choice (but I almost went with the theme song from “Sailor Moon“).

I hope I made Bill proud.

I know it’s been a while, but you remember those “Daily Create” things?  I did some!

The Daily Create #56 – POV silent walk down the street, through a building, etc – No narration!

Challenge accepted:

That’s almost 5 whole minutes of me, not talking.  I hope you all appreciate the effort that entails.

The Daily Create #71 – Reverse – Shoot video of some dynamic action, and then reverse it and post.

This is Matthew Barrett, both a student and a teacher of mine, performing one of the Baguazhang “chi awakening” forms, Snake. I’m particularly fond of the backward sound.

The Daily Create #76 – Some trees express enormous soul. Find and photograph that special tree.
tree 1This poor guy used to be a bit more vertical, but during the flood a few months ago, the ground around his roots got a liiiiiitle too soft.

That’s all for today.  I’m not making any promises, but I’ll see about being a tad more diligent with the posting and such.

PS – Here’s Mythbuster Adam Savage, speaking at the Reason Rally a few days ago.  A bit of warning: he does use a couple of expletives, so if you’re offended by four-letter words, don’t think less of me.  I still think it’s well worth a watch.  Or two. Or twelve.

Movie Voice Machine

This is my first audio assignment for ds106. I decided to do the Movie Voice Machine Assignment. For more detail, click here. (3stars) The point of the assignment was to create a voice machine of a character from a movie or tv show. Due to my lack of garageband, the only creative thing I could do at the time was put on an accent. I decided to pretend and be Connie Britton from NBC’s hit show, Friday Night Lights. This shows, mainly about football, takes place in Texas. I attempted a terrible southern accent and tried to say things that she would say! If i had garageband, which I think I am going to take it upon myself to edit this message, I would add the Friday Night Lights theme song in the background.

Hey y’all!!!

May I Take Your Order?

For this assignment (for two stars) I had to change my accent completely to either British, Australian, or Southern… I think my accent is a mix between British and Southern. I tried really hard though, definitely realizing in the process that I am unable to do accents, but I thought it would be fun. I used Soundcloud, where I signed it, clicked on upload/share and recorded my voice; it is that easy! Hope everyone gets a laugh out of it!

Week 5: Busy Little Gergy

Yes, a busy little Gerg am I.  I’ve got some more Daily Creates and some more Design Assignments, just like I promised.  I’m a man of my word.  You’re anxious, I can tell.  So let’s get started.

Daily Create 30 – The Place of Losing

I should have posted this one a while ago, but, to be perfectly honest, I forgot I even took this picture.  The assignment was to take a picture of a place you lose things in your house.

IMG_0107

Lots of books.  Comic boxes.  Sword rack.  Stitch, wearing a leopard-print santa hat.  Zim’s house.  Boondock Saints flask.  Statue of Silent Bob.  Animatronic hamster that sings “Kung-Fu Fighting”.  Yup, this must be my bedroom.  Hard to imagine losing stuff in there; it seems to organized.

Daily Create 42 – The Job

Take a picture that represents a current or former job.  Gladly.  Having recently resigned from my soul-crushing call center job, I turn my attention to a much more fulfilling (albeit less lucrative) job:

Certificates

I’m pretty impressive on paper.

Design Assignments!

Pop Culture Gif;

Photobucket

This was the easiest.  Downloaded the clip from youtube using keepvid, then trimed it down with Roxio Creator and plugged the result into Adobe Media Encoder and bingo! Gif.  (Adobe CS5.1 makes my life so much easier)

Messing with the MacGuffin

DaVinciMacGuffinThis was a bit slapdash, honestly.  It may be hard to read.  After opening titles, we have Tom Hanks, as Robert Langdon, running toward the crime scene, noting a message in blood.  Then, the message by the body reads “It’s downstairs.”  Finally, Langdon kneels by the pyramid at the Louvre under which the Holy Grail is burried, noting “That was easier than I thought.”

Is that it?  I think that’s it, for the time being.

“What’s Inside of You?”

I had fun with this assignment, however, I found myself regretting the program I used to create it as I tried to save it in a format that would allow me to open it in this post. I used Microsoft Powerpoint to create my poster detailing what’s “inside of me”. I found it interesting to… Continue reading →

hoedown throwdown

This image was actually taken in disney world by myself. My post card was inspired by The Hannah Montana Movie. I can honestly say that I HAVE seen this movie. I watched it with my sister when it first came out. I wrote the post card from Tennessee because that is where the movie takes place. I also wrote it from a child’s point of view. I did all of the editing, pasting, etc in paint artist!

name that tune

The third image is a representation of images that go with popular songs. The background image is one of my all time favorite songs, Firework by the beautiful Katy Perry. The domino represents, top charts hit, Domino by Jessie J, and the flower is an Iris, by the goo goo dolls. I actually used photoshop for this process so I could cut, lasso, edit and color the images in order for them to look real!

Novel in disguise

The second design is an alternate book cover to Nikki Grimes’ novel, Bronx Masquerade. The actual novel is about a class of mixed race, ethnicity and gender during the time of the Harlem Renaissance. The students create poems about their lifestyles and come to realizations that they have more in common with one another than they thought. When I hear masquerade, I immediately think masks, gowns, costumes, the whole nine yards. The book cover I went for certainly has more of the masquerade ball effect. I did all of the editing to this image in paint artist as well.

You can’t handle the truth

My first design is telling the truth about a movie on the movie poster. Burlesque is one of my favorite movies because I love Cher! The original movie poster had the two artists names listed, along with other cast members who were included in the movie. I decided to alter the poster, simply by using paint artist and describing each singer with a few words. Great movie, totally recommend it!

Minimalist Philosophy

“Never define your life in black and white because there’s so much hiding among the grays.” This is one of my favorite quotes of all time. Which ironically enough is why it’s my philosophy. I chose this picture to create my poster because I feel it just so accurately meshes with the quote both literally… Continue reading →
