An Apocalyptic Notecard Story

We’ve all seen those stories in which the person doesn’t talk, but just lifts up notecards where the story/words are written. Many of them are very sad, however, some are funny! I decided to make mine funny! It’s all about my encounter with what I thought was the world ending! What happened? Just watch!

Tutorial for decorate the UMW spirit rock

This is a tutorial for an assignment I created back in the second week of the class.  The prompt is located here.

A good way to start is to use the template I uploaded to flickr.

Next you can upload that into any editing software or photoshop software that you have and think would work best.  I used “Paint 2″.

After that, I got creative with it.  I colored it in with a solid color.

After that, I wrote on it and put shapes.  You could have done this anyway that you liked.

This is the final product!

Have fun with it! Be creative! Go UMW!

TV show trailer -Will & Grace

For this assignment, we had to pick a show that has already ended and make a trailer.  One of my favorite shows – all time is Will & Grace.  This show ran from 1998 to 2006 on NBC.  It’s about the friendship between 4 adults living in New York.  The two main guy characters are gay, one always seemingly drunk women (but my favorite character) and an adventurous red head.  The song that is playing during the video is called “Love Will Keep Us Together” by Captain & Tennille.  I chose this song because I remember an episode where Will and Grace sang it to each other.  I thought it went perfectly with the clips.  I chose the clips that best represented all of the characters.  There were countless others I could have used but these worked the best.

I used iMovie again, this time I knew what to do so it didn’t take as long.  I found all of the clips on YouTube.  I already had the song that I wanted to use in my iTunes.  For some of the clips I took out the dialogue completely and for some of them the song was quieter so you could hear the dialogue.

This goes hand and hand with digital storytelling because I made basically a montage of the show.  You can kind of get a feel of what it is about and understand the hilarity that ensues!

Assignment Prompt

Running Compilation Video

For this assignment, we had to make a compilation of similar things then add music to it.  I wasn’t sure what I was going to do at first.  I just sat there thinking.  I started thinking about movies and certain things that happen in movies.  That’s when I thought of it.  There are a lot of famous running scenes, even if it’s not that famous there are a lot of them.  So that is what I chose.  The music was easy and is actually from the movie that is in the first clip which is “Chariots of Fire.”  It ended up fitting perfectly.  That music goes perfect with any running scene really.

This is the first time I ever used iMovie so it was a little tricky at first.  But after I googled how to use it, it got a lot simpler.  I looked up on YouTube “running scenes from movies”, I found a few that I liked.  Next I uploaded them to iMovie.  I cut them down, so I could get the running scenes and a good amount of them.  Next, I found the song and added it to the video after I got rid of the other audio. Lastly, I added an opening page and a credits page.  I actually enjoyed using iMovie.

This relates to digital storytelling because you’re making a video yourself.  It is telling a story in a way that you understand what the video is about.  Running, specifically in movies.

Where Great Minds get to work and Eagles soar!

Honestly, I don’t know how this could get any cornier/cheesier.  This is the cheesiest thing I have ever done.  I love UMW but it is so easy to mess with the saying, “Where Great Minds Get to Work.”  So I had to include that in there.  We are the eagles, so how could I not include “soar like an eagle?”  To put the cherry on top of the cheese sundae I added eagle sound effects.

I used soundcloud to record this.  Everything else I had already planned to say.  The last thing I needed to do was add sound effects.  So I used Youtube to find “Eagle sound effects.”  I used my phone for that, and when it came time to play it, I held my computer up to my laptop.

Assignment Prompt

mornings…

This is a typical morning for me.  Wake up from my alarm, stretch, put my glasses on and sit there for a little while more.  I’m sorry but I don’t know who gets right out of bed after their alarm goes off.  It usually takes me a little while.  The first sound you hear is my alarm.  The second one is me yawning to emphasize that I am still tired and clearly not a morning person.  The other sounds are me moving around.  The next sound is me pulling out my glasses and putting them on.  The last sound is me moving things around on my bedside table.

What I did for this assignment was just repeat how I woke up this morning.  I used soundcloud to record my morning movements.  It isn’t that much to describe, this is literally how I wake up in the morning!

Assignment Prompt

I’m just here for the treats

Image 7-1-15 at 1.11 PM

I took this picture of my dog back in February.  For some reason I really wanted a picture of hime where he was looking right at the camera because he never does that.  So I held a treat behind the phone, so it made it look like he wanted to pose.  The secret is out now.  I thought it would be great to caption what he was most likely thinking.

I got this picture from my flickr account.  I uploaded it into my paint app and added a text box.  He’s saying “She thinks I’m posing for this picture but I’m actually just waiting for that treat she’s got in her other hand.”  Which is honestly what all dogs think about sometimes.  This is great for digital story telling because without the caption, one would look at it and say…”what is the point?”

Assignment Prompt

Who stole Bobby Flay’s favorite pan?

Image 7-1-15 at 12.34 PM

Famous chef Bobby Flay came to us saying that his favorite orange pan was missing.  We told him we’d get to the bottom of this right away.  It was a process, but we eventually found the culprit.

Bobby Flay had a couple of guests over on a Saturday Afternoon.  Those guests included other famous chefs – Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri.  The first thing we wanted to do was question both of them.  We tried to reach Guy first but he was busy.  So we went to Rachael.  She showed us that she already had a kitchen set with orange pans and pots.  She didn’t need anymore.  So we crossed her off our suspect list.

Guy Fieri was still “busy” so we decided to do some investigating.  We heard that he was off filming his show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.”  That’s the show where he drives around in his flashy red car to different restaurants and food places.  His car is pretty flashy, and so is his hair.  Why wouldn’t he want a flashy orange pan.  By the time we got to the place he was filming, they were done.  So we went to his house.  His car was outside.  We went inside, and saw him cooking, with the orange pan.  We had found our suspect.

I decided to have fun with this assignment.  I honestly couldn’t think of anything to do this for.  For some reason I was thinking of the Food Channel, and all these Chefs and shows came to my mind.  I decided to have it be a piece of missing kitchenware.  I like all these chefs but I kind of wanted to pick on Guy Fieri and his hair.

For this assignment, I found all the images off of google, Including the cork board background.  I uploaded all the images to my paint app on my computer and set the cork as the background.  I drew lines between all of the pictures connecting them to one another.  I really enjoyed this assignment.  I really saw where it came into play with digital storytelling and design.

Assignment Prompt

first self made assignment – Decorate the rock!

Image 6-30-15 at 4.51 PM

This is the first assignment that I created.  I was walking on campus one day and saw the rock.  I know people decorate it all the time but you usually have to get permission for it.  For this you don’t have to!  I wanted to make it something that relates to me and UMW.  So that is what I put for the instructions.  You know, make it unique-ish to you.  This is related to me because I’ll be graduating this upcoming year with the class of 2016.  Even number years are goats as you all know by now.

I took the original picture of the rock.  Here is an easy way to get it. Then what I did was download it into my paint application on my mac, and “painted” it.  It is a pretty easy assignment.  It shouldn’t be that hard.  The prompt is here.
