Wanted: Morlium, Dead or Alive

It looks like Morlium has a history…

When I saw the assignment, I knew it would be a perfect fit for getting a little deeper into the host characters. The character, of course, would be Morlium. As a practical consideration, I wanted clips low on volume so I could do an unmolested voiceover of a news reporter. This, combined with Morlium’s history in Alaska made nature scenes the natural fit.

This is the first time I ever edited video or put a sound overlay. I obtained clips of nature from http://thecliparchive.com/index.php?category=NPS. It turns out some windows computers, including mine have a moviemaker already installed (just search moviemaker in the search programs). Once inside, you can add clips to play one after another. There is a tab for video editing in which you can trim the clips to the desired lengths. Once the movie was created, I played it while recording a speaking part into audacity (so that my speech matched the video). I then exported the speech as a wave file. Windows Moviemaker has an add sound button on the homepage, which I used to insert the speech. Since I recorded while watching the video, the two aligned quite nicely.

I would have liked to put a little more into the wanted parts, but the assignment specifies at least 5 different sources, and I felt the need to give a piece with every scene change. In hindsight, most news reports care very little about what is going on in the video, so I may have been able to be a little freer with my speech.

Character Description: Gru

Character Description: Create a short about a minute thirty to two minute video describing a character. Use about 3-5 short clips that describe the characters personality, that portrays what they will be like in the story. Basically you are just taking a closer look at a character before you begin the story so the audience can get to know the characters better. Make this fun, and interesting, create a story in your blog with this character. (4 stars).

For this video assignment, I had to embody a character from a movie and make a video all about their character. I used Gru from Despicable Me, one of my favorite cartoon movies. I thought this was a great film to use because there are 2 great movies where I could get clips from.

I first decided to go to Youtube to browse at the clips there! I found a few that I wanted to use. I then downloaded them using a website that changes Youtube videos into ready to use mp4. I inserted them all into my iMovie application, which is what I used to create the video. I inserted a title page, and then I started to clip the parts of video that featured Gru into the timeline (on the bottom). iMovie makes this really simple because if you added too much video or too little, you can just use your cursor to stretch in or out what you want.I also used transitions to make my film more fluid! I also found the theme song for the movie on YouTube and used it in my credits to add some sound to the video I made!

I had a lot of fun creating this video! I tried to depict Gru as being a mean villain in the beginning who then turns into a soft and loving father figure to the girls. I think my pieces of the movie clips are perfect for anyone wondering about Gru’s character in the film. His character really changes and that is part of why the movie is such a good film for all!

Enjoy :)

Character Description

I choose this four-star assignment since it related to my character in the radio show, The Clown. I picked the movie Pennywise the Clown since the clown is in the movie. It was a creepy movie that scary a lot of people. This assignment was hard since I have no clue how to do it. So I did a lot or research and learned how to download a YouTube video to my computer. I download the MPEG Streamclip to do the assignment, but somehow the MPEG was not working. So I did research again and found out to add “ss” in from out YouTube link, and you can save the video to your computer. Then I upload the video to My Channel on YouTube, then use Trim tool to trip the video to many small clips and save on my computer. But, I don’t know how to combine all these short clips together. So I decided to give Microsoft Movie Maker a try. I succeeded. I used Microsoft Movie Maker to upload the small clips and then save out to my computer.

Turay Narrative

For this assignment (worth four stars), I had to describe myself (my character) through various clips.

I started with No Church in the Wild by Angel Haze to represent my distrust of society from a young age. Then, I used Man Down by Rihanna to show how and why I began to put my safety and life above all else. Next, a Grace Jones interview represents how I am somewhat desensitized to violence and aggression. I finish with Nicki Minaj’s verse in Monster to show my final descent into what can be perceived as villainous behavior.

To create this, I took various videos off of Youtube and compiled them on iMovie.

Character Identification with Lebowski (4 Stars)

The Big Lebowski is a cult movie and a classic movie at the same time. It brought to life nothing at all while being completely vivid. The following is a character identification piece I put together using iMovie. check out other video assignments by clicking the tag at the end of this post.

Surely ya want to know more

This week I chose to do the assignment, Character Description, that was submitted by Katie Barnes.

The assignment is to,”Create a short about a minute thirty to two minute video describing a character.” This assignment is worth 4 points.

I chose to do this assignment because at this point I am straight up obsessed with my character dossier Shirley Mayfield. I thought that I would enjoy doing this assignment and I did! I had a difficult time with this assignment, but I think I am happy with the overall outcome. I uploaded it to vimeo!

Get to Know Conway

For this assignment, I acted as if I was my character, Conway. The assignment was to make a short video giving some insight of a characters personality. By now, you should all know who my character is, so I wanted to show you how he acted and spoke. I also included James Black in this assignment. He has been Conway’s partner lately and  is Stephen Weidmans character. The original assignment can be found here. It is worth 4 stars.

cute lesbians kill people and steal stuff

I took on the character description video assignment. The directions were to take a few clips to describe a character. My one character, Cleo Barrow, wouldn’t be complete without her Bonnie, so I made it a video about both of them. I was inspired by the trailer for the 1967 Bonnie and Clyde movie. Then I used clips from the avicii music video, “Addicted to You,” for the girls because it was the inspiration for the characters.  I used the song Sundown from Free Music Archive.

For the title cards I probably could have remade them completely, but I cheated and just took it from the trailer and used photoshop to put in the pictures of the girls. If it were a design assignment I would have remade the title cards but I wanted to focus my time and efforts on the video editing part. I used the selection tool and mask to cut out the parts I wanted from the screenshots I took from the trailer. For the “and they kill people part” I made the text myself because it was easier than cutting it out from the trailer. Below is the outer glow settings I used to emulate the style of the text in the trailer.

I spent the first half of my time trying to figure out how to use windows movie maker and yelling at my computer because it wouldn’t do what I wanted it to do and I didn’t really have a direction at the beginning. But I got it worked out!  Mostly I used the split tool and moved clips around. I realized after I uploaded the video that I forgot to fade the music out and the end and fade the video to black.. so just imagine that it does

Sardic Documentary

This video is for the Character Description assignment.  It said to make a video of any character, using pictures for them and narrating his or her personality and story.  It was a fun one to do for Jim Sardic, my character.  It allowed a very direct approach to expand on the character’s traits themselves and really define him.  For the images, I used the one’s I had made for older assignments.  This was especially cool; it allowed me to bring together all the things I had written for Sardic, and have them all relate in one video.  It feels like his universe is being tied together by all its different parts.  In the narration, I talk about his history, where he came from, and his relationship to the Puncture.
