Video Response

For the first video assignment of the week I decided to film a “reaction” video like the youtubers do because I’ve watched them before but I also thought it would be cool. I asked my freind to send me a video to react to and she sent me this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrbtTJY885k . Which I have never watched before so I found it fit to react to and being that she had recommended it, I knew it had to be good.

For the filming and editing process: This took me a while, not only did I have to watch the video and film myself reacting to it, but editing took a while. Originally I was going to use a screen recording app on my computer and pull up the video but also a camera on the other side to record my reaction. This did not work as I only got my reaction filmed so instead I am linking the video. Once I started to edit my reaction I had to watch it all and go through and trim / split up clips which I did on the video editor app installed into my computer. What I would have done differently next time is try to include a screen recording of the youtube video so you guys can see what clips exactly I am reacting to.

Here is a screenshot of the video editing process and what things look like on my side

Wee Willie Winkie

For the start of my video assignments, I decided to create a reaction video. I use Recactus to record the video. I wanted to use my nursery rhyme Wee Willie Winkie as the content that I reacted to.

My reaction to the video was unexpected because while I knew the rhyme was creepy, adding video to it made it so much creepier.

I was actually worried about creating the video because I have no video editing experience. Luckily, I was able to find Recactus which had easy to follow instructions that allowed me to create the video.

I’ve always been fascinated by reactions videos and recording one myself has proven to me that it is harder than it looks.

DS106ers React! (Video)

For this assignment I had to create one of YouTube’s most uploaded video contents. A reaction video. Basically, the idea is to film yourself watching a video which you then capture them instant reactions to whatever is going on.

Here is my video: (Unfortunately the audio from the video I watched doesn’t play)

I have seen a handful of these types of videos and personally I don’t have a big interest in them as if I want to watch the video they are watching, I will just watch it myself. It all depends on what the content is. In my opinion some YouTubers who produce this kind of content for their channel, I think fake their reaction in order to get views and likes.

However, one channel that uploads these kind of video with a twist is The Fine Brothers who upload to a channel called REACT. These are reactions to all sorts of video content however they film different audiences, whether it be grandparents, celebrities, or people we don’t even know or recognise. I like these as they seem a lot more genuine reactions instead of fake ones the creators make of themselves. It adds more realism to the concept of reaction videos.

Check out one of their videos here:

Another channel that I like to watch that does something similar within their video content is The Slow Mo Guys. Now, they don’t quite react like you’ve seen previously in the examples I’ve given, but they do watch back what they have just filmed and give a quick off the cuff reaction themselves.

(If you skip to 4:00 on the video you’ll see them react)

How I created my react video:

  • I used a software called OBS which allowed me to record myself and play the video layered inside it.
  • Like i previously said the audio from the video I placed in my own didn’t work and I’m not sure why but I think I narrated a lot throughout the video so it easier to tell what is going on.
  • Once the video was completed it automatically saves into my document.
  • Then I uploaded the video to YouTube where I have then used the URL to copy and paste into this blog.
  • The video I reacted to can be found here.

Knowing that I needed to watch an unwatched video. I chose this one at random. I’m usually unprovocable with the emotions so bear with me.

Never leave your parents alone, they may not be there when you got time later on

A friend share this video on Facebook, and I decided to watched. It made me cry … because I miss my parents …they live in NJ and with school I can not see them as often as I will like to.

ds106 – Assignment Bank – June 26, 2015 – Video: DS106ers React!

Assignment: So reaction videos seem to be all the rage these days. Just go on YouTube, search reaction videos and hundreds of results will show up. Now it’s your turn to add to the growing list. Find or have a friend send you a video you’ve never seen before and film your reaction! It’s not necessary to have the video you watched layered into your reaction video, but do at least link the video you watched.
