Grand Jete Compilation Video!

I was pretty excited when I saw this assignment (for 4.5 stars), I’m not going to lie. As soon as I read the details I knew that I wanted to do it and relate it to my host character! Just as a refresher, my host character is The Headless Ballerina. And why is she headless? Well in her last dance performance, she took a grand jete (leap) right off the stage and sliced her neck open in a pile of lighting equipment. So I decided to make a compilation video to show everyone exactly what a grand jete is!

The making of this assignment was really easy, however it definitely took some time. I followed the one tutorial posted, however I had already figured that that was the best way to do it on my own. Honestly, the first part took me the longest to complete, I went onto YouTube and looked for videos to use in my compilation. Finding videos that I thought were appropriate for this assignment took some time, but I think I found a good mix! Next, I downloaded them all to my computer using savefrom.net. Then, I uploaded all of the videos into iMovie on my MacBook. I edited down the clips that I needed to, then strung them all together. Then, I removed the original sound from all of the clips, and added in The Vitamin String Quartet’s rendition of Just Dance by Lady GaGa for the background music! Then voila, the finished product was uploaded to my YouTube channel! Hope you all enjoyed it!

2015 Lacrosse Goals

The Work Itself

This video assignment is titled “Compilation Video!”. The instructions are to “pick a theme and download multiple videos from Youtube that fit the theme. Cut them up and create a compilation video by putting the clips to music.” The difficulty of this video is 3. 5 stars out of 5. I used a few different videos I found on YouTube of lacrosse goals that I used in my video, “2015 Lacrosse Goals”. I created an iMovie production, then uploaded it to my YouTube channel, titled “2015 Lacrosse Goals“.

The Story Behind The Story

Whenever I am bored I sometimes watch lacrosse YouTube clips and videos. I have been playing lacrosse since the 4th grade, so it is a big part of my life. I enjoy watching for enjoyment, but also to improve my game. I watch other people play and try to incorporate some of their moves into my game. There are many ways to shoot in lacrosse, and I have learned new shots from watching others do them in games. For example the one hand shot and backhand shot have become popular, because Lyle Thompson became is one of the best collegiate players all time and he was known for his creative and unorthodox shots.

The Process, Narrated

I found a few videos of college lacrosse goals on YouTube. I found the specific clips that I liked and cut them and pasted them into Google drive. From google drive, I downloaded each edited clip and added all of them into a downloads folder titled “lax” that I created. I dragged each individual clip into a new iMovie production. Each clip was already trimmed so additional editing was not necessary. I created a standard title clip and inserted text. Once I was finished on iMovie I shared it to my YouTube account.

Be Prepared To Cry- Compilation Video

The first video assignment I did this week was to make a compilation video. It was worth 3.5 stars. The assignment was to pick a theme, download multiple videos from YouTube that fit that theme, clip the videos, put them together, and ass music. My first thought was a video of great volleyball plays, but when I googled this it just came up with a bunch of compilation videos. So I decided to go a different route. My two ideas were Disney kisses or most important moments or the most tragic movie deaths. Well I decided to do a compilation video of most memorable movie deaths and I figured the best starting place would be a Buzzfeed article of movie deaths. However, Buzzfeed really let me down.

2

So I went to my second option Twitter with use to have a hashtag #fictionaldeathsIwillnevergetover. So I got some inspiration from that:

  • I am Legend- dog
  • Marley and Me- Marley
  • Bridge to Terabithia- girl
  • Harry Potter- Dobby, Dumbledore
  • Hunger Games- Rue
  • Titanic- Jack
  • Remember Me
  • Fault in our stars- Augustus Waters
  • The Boy in the striped PJs
  • The notebook
  • A walk to remember

I then looked up google videos of these death scenes. Which was actually kinda hard to find. For the ones I found I converted them so I could download them from YouTube, then I dropped it into Movavi Video Editor, and cropped the scenes. I was so use to working with Audacity that I kept trying to do things the way I could with that program. Once I had all the videos cropped I muted the videos and added a sad song.

I then exported and uploaded it to Vimeo- again I wanted to use audio technology and went to SoundCloud first. Vimeo took ages to upload and process the video, it was only 3 and a half minutes long. However, I then found out that it was uploading a 15 minute file. So it was uploading the part i posted plus 11 and a half more minutes of nothing. I tried to fix it using various tools and How To pages, however none of them worked. So now I have to figure out how to change this.

3

So I’m going to try another program called Filmora.

4

Which gave me more problems. And now I’m starting to stress how I’m going to finish my work with no program and I’m wishing I had a Mac where it just came with bomb video editing tools, although personally I don’t like Macs and I love my computer.

5

I tried retrying multiple times, I tried ignoring, and then finally I aborted and downloaded it again and WAHLAHH it worked!

6

So I finally got it to work and brought the video I made in the other program to this new program in hopes of saving it as a 3 minute video instead of longer. I then exported it, uploaded to Vimeo, and crossed my fingers. It ended up being the right length. The problem though was that I now had water marks for two different programs and the watermark for the second program was huge and right across the whole screen, where the other one just pops up momentarily a couple times. So I’m posting both videos just with the first one it says it’s 15 minutes but its not.

And here’s the one that is the right time, but has a HUGE watermark.

Surfing Compilation

Assignment (3 stars)

You may be surprised to learn that when Edward Creeper is not busy hosting his show, he enjoys spending time at the beach catching the waves. The follow short video is a compilation of different surfers showing off their skills

To complete this assignment, I first found several different surfing videos on YouTube, and used a Youtube converter to download them into iMovie. I then found a song that sounded ‘beachy’ and also imported it into iMovie. Then, I edited all of the clips and music together to make the finished product, before beginning the process of uploading it to WordPress.

Copilation Video

This video assignment is a compilation video and it is worth 3.5 stars. I went only and got a couple of video of the olympics and a basic video for skiing. I choose olympic videos because they are awesome, and I end it up as a beginner because I thought it will be funny. Then I use iMovie to do the editing which it took me 30 minutes to figure it up. Then iMovie have awesome music library which I use to put a background music. This program allow me to detach the audio of the video without any problem. I choose ski because I love to ski and because the weather is kind of cool now. So skiing down the hill is awesome and it fit my needs to go skiing this winter.

Creative Education Compilation: VideoAssignments1736

Creative Arts in Education

Throughout the semester while researching scholarship related to ‘the importance of creative arts in education,’ I’ve looked at many YouTube videos. I’ve critiqued and examined mostly creative everyday remix practices of teachers and the works of Ken Robinson. To round it all out, I wanted to create something that showed the students. What does it look like when creative arts are implemented into education?

Different Colors

I chose to compile the videos set to Walk the Moon Different Colors. Since the first time I heard this song it made me think about why teachers do what they do and fight to make better experiences for their students. Hence the lines, “this is why we’re biting the bullet, we know the kids are right.” It’s not easy to change the landscape of ‘high stakes testing’ and integrate engaging, creative curriculum. Although there have been great improvements at some schools, as can be seen in the compilation video, others still lag behind due to governmental policies and funding. Never the less, we can see instructors “biting the bullet” as they may struggle to implement creative curriculum.

The lines, “Different colors! We carry each other,” I also thought were poetic in regards to education. We know from Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences that everyone has several modes of thinking and learning. When assessed, we find some are more dominant learning perspectives than others. In the classroom and school setting these different ways of being and thinking must be attended to in order to fully engage students. This is why the arts are so important, because they engage students in several other ways that are otherwise alienated by sitting in a chair quietly studying for a test. There is additional poetry in the lines, “Different colors,” that can be seen in this compilation by the various ethnicities and cultures. As a member of various cultures one may belong to various Discourses through which they develop a sense of being and seeing the world. These often are expressed in the typical school day and must be respected and appreciated. I believe through various means of expression whether it be physical activity, the creation of visual art, or music, one can find ways to relate to another who may identify with a very different culture. These means of expression bring out potential collaboration and social learning.

How This Video Was Made

I first had to watch many YouTube videos to get a sense of some that may work for what I was trying to achieve. I tried to find some videos I knew would work with the lyrics and structure of the song. Fortunately, I was able to find most of what I needed on the Edutopia YouTube channel. I also used a video from Institute of Play. To edit these videos, I had to convert them into a format that I can import into Adobe Premiere. I used “clipconverter” to do this. This tool is nice because it is all web based and does not require the user to download any software. It is important to note that with ‘“free” to use software and web tools there is always potential for malware and viruses. I noticed the tutorial for this assignment linked to tools that were considered malware by my virus scanner. Hopefully I dodged a bullet on that one, but it’s another important lesson to learn about engaging with ‘new literacies’ to not blindly trust these “free” softwares or sources linked by others.

Once I had all of my videos and music collected in Adobe Premiere, I was able to make different cuts and arrange them as I saw fit to sort of sync with the music. I also created a title screen and credits roll, and a few other transitional effects such as the flashes for “tonight we raise a fire!” I learned how to do all of these things previously last week when I created “Fish Out of Water – Boundaries Exercise tdc1276” a daily create. I was able to accomplish all of this simply by spending a half hour to an hour watching tutorial videos about Adobe Premiere.

Tennis Celebration Compilation

Compilation Assignment 4 stars

I am a big fan of tennis, have played for almost all my life and find that it is one of the few sports I can enjoy watching. This is a video compilation of some of the more famous players celebrations after some crucial or long point. This assignment took me quite a long time, because this is my first time working with video editing it took a little bit to figure out. However the hardest part or the most time consuming was getting the audio to sync up, I didn’t use the full song. So I tried to make the song seem shorter but not jumpy. I used Video Pad to edit the movie, and it was fairly simple. I got the videos off of YouTube after searching for some fun and cool tennis points. I then opened the files using Video pad and cropped them to have the right clip during the song. When cropping the video I had to unlink the visual from the audio so that the song was the only thing you hear. I really enjoyed the assignment, it was a lot of perfecting and re perfecting what you had worked on.

Running Compilation Video

For this assignment, we had to make a compilation of similar things then add music to it.  I wasn’t sure what I was going to do at first.  I just sat there thinking.  I started thinking about movies and certain things that happen in movies.  That’s when I thought of it.  There are a lot of famous running scenes, even if it’s not that famous there are a lot of them.  So that is what I chose.  The music was easy and is actually from the movie that is in the first clip which is “Chariots of Fire.”  It ended up fitting perfectly.  That music goes perfect with any running scene really.

This is the first time I ever used iMovie so it was a little tricky at first.  But after I googled how to use it, it got a lot simpler.  I looked up on YouTube “running scenes from movies”, I found a few that I liked.  Next I uploaded them to iMovie.  I cut them down, so I could get the running scenes and a good amount of them.  Next, I found the song and added it to the video after I got rid of the other audio. Lastly, I added an opening page and a credits page.  I actually enjoyed using iMovie.

This relates to digital storytelling because you’re making a video yourself.  It is telling a story in a way that you understand what the video is about.  Running, specifically in movies.

Shark Compilation Video

For this video assignment, the prompt was “Pick a theme and download multiple videos from Youtube that fit the theme. Cut them up and create a compilation video by putting the clips to music.”

I chose to find different clips of sharks on Youtube, and splice them together into a compilation video that I thought would be cool. The reason I chose to do a shark themed video is because Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” was last week and sharks have been in the news a lot lately due to some unfortunate shark attacks on a few east coast beaches. I have always found sharks to be very cool creatures as I have spent a lot of time at the beach in the Outer Banks, NC. Sharks have always been of interest to me so I figured what better time then now to make a short video compiling some other videos that I found interesting and entertaining.

In order to complete this assignment, I utilized a few different tools to put everything together. The first of those tools being YouTube to find the clips I needed. The second being a youtube video downloader to extract the YouTube videos via their URL and download them to my computer. Here is what the downloader looks like for your reference:

Once I found my clips and downloaded them, it was time to use iMovie (which comes on all Mac computers I believe). iMovie is more then enough to do a compilation like this but I was not very familiar with it so I had to read some tutorials online before I really got into it.

Here is what iMovie looks like for anyone not familiar with it:

Once I had all my videos Imported into iMovie, I was ready to edit them into a compilation using transitions, a title/introduction and a credit sequence.

Compilation Video

“Pick a theme and download multiple videos from Youtube that fit the theme. Cut them up and create a compilation video by putting the clips to music. ”

For the above assignment, i made a compilation of Optimus Prime Return. I downloaded the actual video from youtube. I always been a  big fan of Optimus Prime from the movie transformer. It is a science fiction movie, and I have watched every single series of transformers. The soundtrack i used in my video is made by Hans Zimmer; he, is known as one of the best audio artist in the world. Everyday, i listen many of his audio themes, and listening to his music is quite motivational during my daily workout routines. The scene i picked to edit is called, Return of Optimus Prime from Transformer series Age of Extinction. In this scene, it shows that Optimus Prime is returning back to Autobots. To me, the scene not only depict the return of Optimus Prime, but it also represent the symbol of hope. Even though,  Autobots  sacrifice so many of their friends in the hope that their leader would come  back and save them. There was some kind spirituality that kept Autobots to protect the Earth and its people.  At last, Optimus Prime came back as  a Savior to its Autobots, as in a sense Moses return to it’s people to save them.

I edited the above video clip using iMovie on Mac. I have to admit that this was first time i used iMovie; therefore, i ended up watching bunch of youtube tutorial to learn how to use the basic tools that iMovie offer. Following are the steps i took to do the assignment:

1. Step

Downloaded different movie clips from youtube

2. Step

Open the videos in iMovie by clicking import and selecting the desire movies, Once imported it will appear in iMovie library.

3. Step

Select the desire scene by scrolling over it, and choosing the portion that you want to add into your   video. Can select as many scenes from different video clips, and also can be arranged by clicking and dragging back and forth

4. Step

Click the Title button, and select the desire theme. Drag the theme to front of the video clip, and add the desire text.

5. Step

Add transition effects by clicking transition and selecting the desire effect

6. Step

To load the movie online, Click FileShare > Select the desire media and follow the instruction. In my case, i uploaded my video online using Youtube

Final Step

I copied the url from Youtube, and added to this post.
