How to do something that probably nobody in this class will have to do.

I ended up having to do something to my car, and decided that it would be perfect for this week in Ds106. Just in case anybody has a 20 year old Audi that they work on (didn’t think so).

I filmed the entire process in 4k, using a bench vice as a tripod. After filming it, I edited in some pictures that describe the needed tools etc. I chopped it up for time, fast-forwarded some of it, and added some background music to make it a little more watchable. I personally think videos of working on cars without narration are relaxing, I’m not very good at making them though, I drop too much stuff and cuss a lot.

Either way, I spent a lot of time editing this assignment and making it descriptive and somewhat useful. I’d say compared to some of the other assignments, this one should be with five stars, instead of the two stars that it’s listed as on the Ds106 assignment bank.

No…NO don’t eat that!!

Okay first of all….LOL.

I’m writing this post about the first video assignment I completed this week. The name of the assignment is, “How To Video” and it’s for 3 stars. I made this video about make a peanut butter and apple jelly sandwich, you can see it here.

I’m entirely burnt out with this class so my goal for this week was to just try to have fun creating, plus I enlisted my wife’s help! She gave me the idea of making it a how to on this idea, then we both remembered that I’m allergic to peanut butter so she got the idea to make it a little bit of a spoof. I used her old Nikon camera to record it, and then iMovie to put it all together. I imported the video from the SD card of her camera to iMovie, then muted that audio. I then manually recorded audio over it as the narrator. I had fun with this project and I think that if I had to do it again I would try to coordinate the transition a little bit from picking up the sandwich, to my face when I take a bite. It’s a little adjustment but I think it would make a pretty good difference. Thanks for watching!

Just Zaying…

How to Open a Door

Ever wonder how you’re supposed to get from point A to point B through those rectangles in the wall that open? Well today I’m here to teach you how to open those so called door contraptions. This assignment is 3 stars.

Video Assignments: Path One

How to Draw the Morph Mobile

To continue video week, I decided to complete the How To Video assignment, worth 4.5 stars. To complete it, I simply was to create a video showing how to do something or a life hack. Because we have a class theme, I decided to do a video showing you how to draw the Morph Mobile that I created for my superhero within the first few weeks of the semester.

To create my video, I started by finding the image I created of the Morph Mobile. Then, using what little artistic skills I have, I drew step by step, how to draw the mobile with little photos as examples, just as you would see in a how to draw book. After finishing the drawings, I uploaded them to my computer to put together in a slideshow using Adobe Spark. In my slideshow, each step is represented in order, with text explaining what you are to draw. At the end of my video, I credited all of the sources I used to create my slideshow. Then, I downloaded the show to iMovie. In iMovie, I added the Carefree music I found on YoutTube to my slideshow and it was complete! I then uploaded the final product to YouTube and embedded it below.

I made the slideshow really simple as I cannot draw, so the tutorial is pretty short and easy!

A Spy’s Favorite Meal

This assignment can be found here and it was to create a “How To” video. This video describes how to make an ever so famous grilled cheese sandwich.

I modeled my video style after one of my favorite food channels on YouTube, Binging with Babish. I don’t really have the same soothing deep voice he has or a cool apron but I do know how to make a grilled cheese. If you haven’t seen one of his videos, my favorite one where he makes food from the show Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia is posted below.

This video was a win win for me. I got an assignment out of the way, and at the same time got to eat it because I was pretty hungry. These sandwiches also paired nicely with a bowl of tomato soup.  This is one of Agent Robert’s favorite foods and most spies don’t give out personal details like this very often, so it’s a rare treat to see the inside of his life like this.

This movie was made with iMovie and audio was edited with Audacity, similarly to all the other videos I have made before this one.

Canva Overview

In this blog I am talking about the Canva tutorial video I created. My inspiration for this tutorial was mainly learning how to record your computer screen. I have always seen people record tutorials on their computer screen but I never tried it myself. So I decided to give it a shot, and I think it turned out pretty well.

I used the Any Video Converter Ultimate tool to record this video. It is software for macOS. Recording your computer screen was not very difficult. Enjoy.

Here is a screenshot of my editing tool which is iMovie.

This assignment was worth 4 and half stars.

Happy 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2017-04-07 18:01:13

I had a tough time making this video mostly because I have never filmed on my own. It was quite interesting because  I got to experience the actual film process and I wouldn’t have gotten the chance to do so if it weren’t for this assignment. First, I had to think of ideas for making my very own “how to” video. I knew several ways to say and/or write in different languages so I decided to share my knowledge with the audience. This was perfect since that is what my secret spy is known for, for her intelligence and her relationship building skills with people around the world. After balancing the camera to stand up straight and record alright (this took the longest time!), I started writing 6 ways to say hello. It may seem  like I am looking at a script when I am hesitating, but actually, I am contemplating. =)
