Do you want to learn how to make a butterfly out of paper? Well, click here to watch my video to learn how!

For my arts and crafts assignment, I decided to create a video tutorial on how to make a paper butterfly! I encourage you to grab a square piece of paper, and try to make a butterfly as you watch the tutorial! Enjoy!

How to make a paper plane

I am not a huge arts and crafts girl, but I do know how to make a paper plane. I recorded this video on my lap top and decided to make it up close to the plane so the audience can see what I was doing. I then uploaded it to Youtube.  VideoAssignments, VideoAssignments1886

Week 10 Video Assignments

Video Assignments    12 Stars                                           4 Stars

The assignment: You probably have watched at least one arts and crafts video in your life. Now is your chance to make your own! Record yourself making a fun arts and crafts project tutorial.

I did a tutorial on English Paper Piecing, it is my portable hand sewing project. It is easy to carry around with me because I keep it in a pencil box. This is just a small way for me to stay creative and it helps me to relax. Unfortunately , my school work keeps me from sewing as much as I would like to.

#SixSecondArt (Bead Art)                            2 Stars

The assignment:ix word stories, six word quotes, and six word poetry are all the rage. So why not six second art? Using any method of video, stop motion, or other visual medium, produce a six second video of you creating art. It could be digital art, physical art, or performance art, just create a six second video of you making it happen! Vine, Youtube, Vimeo, are all great places to host, although Vine happens to a great natural place for this type of work.

I made a video of my Accuquilt Go. It cuts fabric all the same size, I use the different shapes to create quilts and other various projects. This machine cuts the shapes all the same and makes it easier to piece together. I cute out the apple core shape for a future quilt.

Second Film(Kids Joke)                       4 Stars

The assignment: Make a super short, 5-second film; basically enough time for one gag, bit, or joke. See examples (ALERT: Not G-rated, generally) at http://5secondfilms.com/. Or alternatively, try your hand at creating a 5 second version of a major movie.

I made my 5-second film G-rated because I am going to be a teacher and I don’t want my students to find something on the web that is no appropriate for children. Students these days are into technology and do searches on their teachers to see what they can find. Also, I shot this outside on a nice, fall, breezy day which was appropriate for my silly little joke.

My Favorite Thing To Do (Machine Embroidery)  2 Stars

In this assignment, make a video of yourself doing your favorite hobby for 30 seconds to 1 minutes. Post it to your blog and then describe what you are doing in the video and what makes this hobby your favorite thing to do in your spare time.

My spare time is very limited these days. Every chance I get, you can find me in my sewing room making something with my embroidery machine. This happens to be a key chain with a music note on it. Both of my girls play in the orchestra so music has a special place in our home.

DIY Film

The video work for this week took a lot of my energy and efforts. I chose path one, 8 stars of individual video assignments. I completed the Take Us Through Your Day assignment and the Arts and Crafts Tutorial assignment, both of which were 4 stars.

For the Take us Through Your Day, I vlogged my day with my sister in Philadelphia. It seemed a little strange filming my sister all day while we were mostly just walking around, but it is nice to now have a memory of the day in a video format. I tried my best to get some varying filming angles to take the viewer on a fun adventure with us.

I decided to connect my Arts and Crafts tutorial with my radio show, Survivors at Sunrise and tap into my character who studied ecology and lived for a time in Puerto Rico during the apocalypse. This video was more difficult to film and edit than I had anticipated. I struggled a bit to get a good angle to film and I ended up propping my phone up on two books, a tissue box and a lamp base (I also used the lamp for lighting). I had to redo some of my voice-overs in the editing process. There was a lot that I filmed that needed to be edited out or sped up because the video just dragged on. However, I think I got it down to a good length and it flows pretty decently.

I had a few hiccups trying to upload my videos, but I visited the Digital Knowledge Center and they were able to help me! ?

Arts and Craft Tutorial

So this was a 3 and half star assignment. I picked this one because the night before all the used sticky notes around my computer that I didn’t need any more became origami swans. So upon looking at the assignments I saw an arts and craft tutorial assignment and I went “Cool, I can make an origami swan tutorial. I recorded the video of me making it first, then recorded narration.  It took some time to edit the narration to the video once I sped the video up in certain spots. Though was still an interesting project to take on.

How to make a rice bag!

For this assignment I had to create an arts and crafts tutorial on how to make something. This caught my eye because I have a sewing business and make children’s clothing, bedding (quilts), and some items for adults. I thought that it would be a really cool experience. It was a lot harder than I had expected. This assignment is rated 3 1/2 stars and I feel like it should potentially be a 4 star of you don’t have any experience doing this. The thought is to make a video and then create a voice over explaining the process.

I have a tripod so I went ahead and got it set up in my sewing room so that the graphics were good but feel like my positioning could be better. There were times that I went out of frame and it was hard to see what I was doing. I had several video clips that I needed to mash into one video. I used the Splice app on my phone to edit them together and make the transitioning. Everything I did was on my phone. I was able to cut clips smaller and edit out parts that I didn’t think I needed.

Next I used an app called Dubme to do the voice over. There was an option to reduce the video sound so I chose to turn my video sound all the way down and record over it. Then you actually watch the video while you record the sound. This was hard for me because while I created the video it was hard to know when you had to be finished saying what you needed to say before the next part needed to be said. I found myself tripping over my words and having to start over more than once and still did it on my finished video.

Once the voice over was finished, I saved the video to my phone photo library and then uploaded it to youtube.

It isn’t the greatest, but here is my first ever sewing tutorial! I hope you enjoy!

Arts and Crafts Tutorial

I decided for my very own assignment it would be fun to make an arts and crafts tutorial. I went with a paper hat tutorial because it was pretty simple and I have actually never made one before. The description for this assignment is as follows:

You probably have watched at least one arts and crafts video in your life. Now is your chance to make your own! Record yourself making a fun arts and crafts project tutorial. Make sure you use voice overlay with step by step instructions and music to enhance the video. The Work Itself

Story Behind the Story

I wanted to make this assignment because I believe everyone can enjoy arts and crafts since it is so broad and you can make almost anything you want. It’s also a big part of our culture. If you  go to YouTube, you can find thousands and thousands of fun art project tutorials. Famous vloggers do it quite often as well, which shows that people really enjoy these type of videos. I chose to make a hat tutorial because it just seemed like a fun and relatively simple project. Also, I have never made one before so this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Narrating the Process

Step 1:

I found the perfect YouTube tutorial to follow along with and grabbed the corresponding supplies (Newspaper, ruler and pen).

Step 2:

Made a video recording of me making the paper hat.

Step 3:

Uploaded video to Movie Maker

Step 4:

To make the voice overlay with instructions, I recorded myself speaking while I watched the video I made, which can be seen below.

Step 5:

I added the voice instructions audio to the clip.

Step 6:

I added a title, music, and credits.
