my dream life

The first video assignment I did this week was a trailer for my dream life. The assignment was rated as 2.5 stars, but personally I believe it’s worth 4 stars! I think the rating is lower because it’s only supposed to be a 30-second video, but mine ended up being a bit longer than that. I also had to download a bunch of apps on my phone in order to create the intro to this video. The intro to the video was a template that someone created for others to use, and I added the text through certain phone apps as well as other effects, such as the stars. This would’ve been a lot easier if the apps were available like this in my computer of I could see a tutorial on using apps for windows on how to do this, but since the apps were only on my phone I went with that. I’m currently working on another video for this week and I’m using a different video editor (Filmora) in which I didn’t have to use the iPhone apps in order to get the intro detailed to how I want!

I edited the main part of the video using a different app this time, called Animotica. I wanted to try something different than the generic Windows video editor because I believe I needed more features than what that one offered. Within this app, I was able to add more motion effects to the video. I also had a lot more color effects. Most of the clips I ended up downloading had an old-timey look, with brassy tones. I wanted the rest of the video to have that vibes and match so it looked like they were all taken by the same person. I feel doing this made the video flow better and less choppy. The only video I didn’t edit with the Sepia filter was the clip of someone writing. I left this brightly colored in its original filter because I wanted to “highlight” my dream job and what this video is all about!

Here’s a picture of what the editor screen looks like:

I had a few problems with this app. I didn’t like the Watermark logo that was left on the clip, and although this application had more features than the Window app I was previously using, it is still not as advanced like I would like it to be (yet Filmora is another story but you’ll hear me talk about that in my future posts!)

I hope you like the video! (all credits are listed in the youtube description)

Fashion Dreams

Hello, everyone! Here is my third video assignment, the Your Dream as a Movie Trailer assignment:

I decided to make a 30 second trailer about my childhood dream of becoming a fashion designer. I used clips I found from Pixabay and Pexels and edited them together in the video editing app on my computer; the music I used to score the trailer was also a preset tune in the app.

I tended to change my mind constantly, when it came to my dreams–at one point I wanted to be a fashion designer, a graphic novelist, a video game designer, a character designer, and probably so many more that I can’t remember, off the top of my head (it wasn’t until my junior year of high school that I decided that I really wanted to be an author)! I decided to make a trailer based on my dreams of becoming a fashion designer simply because I thought that it would make for more interesting visuals than, perhaps, a trailer based on my dream of becoming an author, which would mostly just consist of clips of people writing or reading. With fashion design, I could include clips of drawing, sewing, applying makeup, modeling, and so on.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to add in all of the things I wanted to add, such as models putting on makeup or women looking at clothes, in order to maintain the 30 second limit, for this assignment, but I feel like what I was able to use was sufficient enough to get the point across. It was also a bit tricky trying to trim the clips used to be just the right length that the video as a whole didn’t go over 30 seconds. Another thing I wanted to do but wasn’t able to was transitions between the clips and the text bumpers, but the app I had on my computer didn’t have transitions. Luckily, the app is able to automatically sync the video with the soundtrack (at least with the preset soundtracks) to make each shift from clip to text to clip more smooth.

I also added a filter over the clips in the video editor app, just to add a little something extra; the filter I used was called “Pearl,” and I picked it out of the others because of how much I really liked the subtle, pale, silvery quality of it. I think it adds a slight dream-like quality to the video.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

Get Ready For A Movie Trailer

For the movie trailer assignment I created a movie I would love to be in. I love Spider Man so much! I even wrote my college essay about him. So for this assignment I combined Little Miss. Muffet with Spider Man. I was on break at orientation and asked some of my friends what their favorite nursery rhyme was. As soon as I heard spider I knew that I wanted to merge Spider Man and Little Miss. Muffet. I loved the music I added. I think that it really added to the story. I hope that it is obvious that I was going for,

“Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey;
Along came a spider,
Who decided to bite her,
And Spider Man was created that day.”

Survivors at Sunrise’s Bellamy & Her Dream Life

I went with path one for the video assignments! The video below is a video about Bellamy’s dream life. I decided to stick with my radio show and in particular my character. In the video I picked four things that Bellamy has always dreamed of having and I also explain it and I used things that we talked about from our radio show.

Enjoy!

Video Assignment 2058
I really enjoyed doing this video assignment, it gave me time to reflect on some of my most favorite pictures and memories and tell you guys a little bit about my life!

Video Assignment 2031

This is a video collage of all my favorite pictures from my last year at UMW!  I can’t believe I am graduating in just a few short weeks! I will really miss this place and all the memories I have made here, but I am so thankful for the opportunities UMW has given me.

Video Assignment 1981

In this short trailer, I am using our radio show characters from The End Apocalyptic Airwave to give a glimpse into what we dream our journey through The End will look like for all of us.  Starring Sarah Thatcher, Winifred Hart, Carson Gordon, Alex Whitmore, and Joan Williams.

Mermaid-Marine Biologist

I decided to incorporate video into my story by doing the Your Dream As A Movie Trailer video assignment, but from the perspective of my protagonist instead of myself. Once again, it serves an expository purpose in the story, providing background information without adding any more to the word count and what feels like an excess of explaining things.

The assignment says:

We all have a dream of what our life could be. We find this in children especially. But we all hold dreams of what we may become.

Through photos and videos, music and text, put together a :30 trailer to tell the story of your life dream. I used iMovie for a template and created the dream of my child, who wants nothing more than to go into outer space. I created a short story arc and filled it with magic and wonder. It doesn’t have to be about how you will achieve that dream, just what it will look like on your journey there or what it is once you have it. Use your imagination to tell your story, however you dream it up.

This is especially relevant to my story because the protagonist’s desired career represents something important about her perspective, her ambitious and independent personality, her flaw of stubbornness, and her motivation, as well as the conflict with other people that results from her revealing herself. In short, basically its very her.

In the story, its explained as being her school project, and its mention is used to advance the plot as well as to characterize another character (her brother) by his response.

So, I Had This Dream Last Night

This video assignment asked you to make a movie about a dream you had as a kid but I decided to make a movie about a recurrent dream I’ve had. It was one of the most strange dreams I ever had and I remember re-telling it to my mom the next morning. It started with me on a couch in my living room watching tv. There was rain and thunder outside and one lightning bulb came through the window and struck my television. It went black and started smoking, but then it flashed back on to a news report for the next day. They were reporting on a woman’s body found murdered, and when they put up a license plate photo of the victim, it was me. I was freaked out but before I could say anything another flash filled the room and my television was back to how it had been before. In reality, the rest of my dream I spent trying to figure out who was going to kill me but for the sake of this video, I made an abbreviated version. So from this dream, I was inspired to made this little video.

I made this video using clips I got from YouTube. I used so many clips that it would take me an hour to list them all but some of them were the Psycho shower scene, a video of rain outside of a window, and a news report about a body found by ghost hunters. Yes, that is a true story. I downloaded all the videos using KeepVid and imported them to iMovie.

I cut all the clips and put them in order. Then, I used GarageBand on my Mac to record my voiceover. I didn’t do any voice adjustments to my audio or any effects. I simply exported my audio and inserted it into my movie. The music I used in the background was a generic synth. song I found on the GarageBand program.

Lastly, I went to the visual effects feature on iMovie and chose the “Dream” effect that cast a hazy glow on all of my film clips. Then I uploaded it to YouTube.

I’ve always thought this dream I kept having was really interesting. I don’t think I’ve seen a movie that had the same kind of plot so I made my own. I also had a good laugh at the cat clip I put at the beginning because it was the only thing I could find that represented me laying on the couch. I wasn’t intending for the movie to come out so eerie like a scary movie at first, so the cat at the beginning seems a little out of place. Though, I hope it gives you a laugh too.

mine is called “Jack’s Cosmic Imaginarium”. I would love to see how others envision their dreams on film too!
