Back Again, With More Answers

I decided to do a follow-up assignment to one I did last week. I am answering all of the remaining questions for this assignment. It was a bit funnier this time around, but I think the person who created the original project did a fantastic job. Their acting skills were over the top =]

I did some thinking and talked to several people in the class about different programs everyone has been using for video editing. In the end, I decided to stick with Final Cut Pro, and now I have a better understanding of breaking up the clips and using the scissors tool. I cut the video into little segments and then added my snapshots.

My inspiration for this project was to complete the entire video, as well I wanted to stick with the efforts I had previously made learning this new program. I already have another idea brewing for the video assignments!

The Best Worst Answers

To complete this assignment, I thought it would be pretty funny to have the strangest, most out of touch and disconnected person I could think of answer the questions. This took me quite a while, specifically the editing portion as video editing is most certainly not a strong area of mine, so I only answered 5 questions instead of all 10. The video still ended up being almost 5 minutes long, so I figured any longer could get kind of boring, no matter how funny the responses. I tried to think extremely creatively and come up with things that others may not think of, providing an even more guttural laugh because of the shock factor. I used DaVinci Resolve to edit, though it felt clunky and annoying as a beginner. My biggest struggles came with trying to piece together the clips in the software, while actually creating the script for my responses was fun and came to me easily.

Though it could be edited better and it’s not as professional looking as I hoped it may turn out, it’s a step in the right direction when it comes to video editing. I also think that the comedic elements make up for the things the video is lacking.

What an Interview!

I was asked to answer some questions about a fun video assignment for this assignment. I think I am getting the hang of editing videos slowly in Final Cut Pro, but I was initially lost with how to add a slide with text responses.

I realized, why not just make a PowerPoint with the questions and my responses, then take screenshots of the presentation and add that to the video. I must be lucky because this worked! I also figured out how to change the different tools to cut up the original video and insert my pieces.

There are so many parts to this week’s assignments. I am glad that I am figuring out how to use this program! I see some of the others assignments, and they are turning out well. Keep up all the hard work, DS106ers!

Also, on a sad note… The creator of the GIF has passed away, Stephen Wilhite. Below is his and the very first uploaded GIF.

Apocalypse Questions

For this assignment for 4 stars, I answered 5 apocalypse questions. I uploaded the video on youtube through my phone and it was that easy. The hardest part was writing down the questions from the video that I needed to answer.

Video Assignments: Path One

Breaking CDE Interview!

This week we had to complete an interview with a doctor formerly with a team investigating what’s going on in these parts with the infection. Even though I was the one answering questions, I feel like I came out of it with a lot more questions for her! Still, I do feel like I have more of an idea of what’s going on with the oncoming apocalypse. I’m glad we’re not alone. You can watch my interview below and get some insight on what people are experiencing.

Anyways, I had a fun time completing this assignment. I watched through the original video a few times and decided which questions I wanted to answer. I also looked out for parts in the video I could use as extra responses for realism and for reactions from Nessie. Then I recorded my parts with the video in front of me to make sure I answered appropriately. My realism was a little shaken by my cat joining me and then refusing to leave but I think cats can add to any video. After recording my parts (or re-recording, for many of them), I entered iMovie and started cutting and pasting it together. When I’m editing anything, I use the split tool mostly and then delete the pieces I don’t want.

The most fun part about this video is that I got to mix real life experiences with fiction. A lot of what I say in the video is true and experiences I’ve had in the past few weeks. Some stories and answers are exaggerated or made up, however. Try to guess what’s real and what’s made up!

Peculiar Questions…

I chose 5 questions out of the set of 10 to choose from and answered them in total honesty. My question is, why does Nessie want to know all of these strange things? I’m a bit suspicious… What does she know? What’s going on that we don’t know about?

This was a really fun assignment! I hope you enjoyed my answers and the video, and go me for finally figuring out how to insert video clips into my videos! Yay me!

Locke(ness) Interview

I found this assignment surprisingly easy to put together! I first decided on the five questions I would answer and wrote down the times in the original video to make editing easier later. One of my two difficulties was finding a place to record. It’s a dark day outside, so I had to rely on indoor lighting, which I always have difficulties with. I eventually settled for my room because it’s in a basement, so it has a creepy large window, and there are several lights and lamps!

After I recorded the first question using OBS and replayed it, I realized it was not recording my sound at all. I recorded the question again, and this time the audio was severely delayed and a low quality. I eventually used QuickTime to record and the audio was much better. Although, I move around a lot so you can hear the earbud microphones bumping into my hair a few times.

Answering the questions themselves was fun and I made a point not to plan out what I would say! My dream and the last time I ate cow products are both completely true, so hopefully these are not symptoms of the end!

I used iMovie to combine my video with the original, and this was easy to do. I have now used iMovie several times and I think I have the hang of it! If I changed anything about the video, I would probably say “um” less. It’s something that seems so normal to say while I’m thinking, but it seems so excessive when it’s in video. Maybe that’s just because I’m paying attention to it, though!

Five CDE Questions Answered

Vanessa Locke asked me to answer some questions for whatever reason… so I chose a few and responded (in many cases a little too thoroughly and I had to sped things up or edit them down).

Making this video wasn’t too challenging. Again, I had to use my phone to record so shout out to my Galaxy s7. I tried to give a more interesting background and use my Marauders Map tapestry that always hangs on my bed. I hope my answers were sufficient for Nessie.
