ds 106: Create A Commercial (5 stars)

Though it’s not much of an advertisement per say, it tells Rudy just what it is they’re looking at. They will pick one to take along their journey while the rest go with a kindly stranger and his monstrous companion. Without the log left by some unnamed researcher Rudy wouldn’t even know what its name was. Now as they look around, they notice that there are some other small machines scattered throughout the room, blinking red in the darkness.

If the obnoxious watermark wasn’t a clear indicator, this was made with both screencast-o-matic and a video editing program called OpenShot. I wasn’t fully sure what I wanted to do for my video portion and figured it’d be interesting to do a recording rather than stitching together a bunch of different assets. I also used OpenShot to add a bunch of effects such as distortion, robotic voice, and pixilation to the audio and visuals. I wish I could’ve added some static and better mixed the audio, but overall I’m alright with how this turned out.

Period Makeup: Honest Commercial

Every product made for period are portrayed as being life-changing and essential for a woman during her period. The same goes with makeup products. I thought, why not combine the two into makeup products for your period.

I learned that you can’t really edit videos on TikTok, so I had to upload the video onto my computer and trim down the video on there. As much as I love TikTok, I really don’t understand how to create them. I tend to stick with what I’m good at which, as you will see below, is sarcasm.

Elden Ring – Fan Made Commercial

by Thomas Pulsifer

Based on Erin Madden’s 5-star prompt to make a commercial for an upcoming product, I’ve made a trailer for Elden Ring, the FromSoftware game that releases in February of next year. FromSoft, known for titles like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, is my favorite game development studio. When deciding what to make a commercial for, the studio’s next upcoming title, Elden Ring, quickly came to mind. A gameplay showcase was just released the other day, giving me a lot of footage to work with for this trailer. As with all my other videos, this was made using Vegas Pro. I started by editing together the silent game footage and proceeded to add in every sound effect heard throughout the video. Each of the sounds were found on YouTube. I had to think outside the box for many of the sound effects, since quite a few that I was looking for couldn’t be found online. For instance, I wasn’t able to find a good cloth-dragging sound effect, so I ended up using the sound of a flag waving in the wind instead. It sounds shockingly realistic! I’m very proud with how this commercial turned out. A lot of work was put into it, and I think it shows.

Commercial For Barbie!

5 Stars

This is My Tutorial For Barbie Commercial !

I made this to show what barbie is dreaming about and showed a montage of Taylor swift because to me she is a real-life barbie who wants to be known for more than her signing and beautiful looks. She has other things in her life that she wants others to know about!

Come Get Your JELLY Shoes!

For my second assignment of the week, I opted to Create a Commercial! This is a 5 star assignment. I also had a lot of fun creating this!

This was time consuming, only because I chose to dub my commercial voice over to clips for famous ’80’s movies. Each clip was only about a second long. The biggest challenge was finding clips that fit the story of the commercial. The clips needed to be purposeful in contest to what I was saying.

To do this I started doing a LOT of YouTube searching. I watched a lot of movie clips and trailers! Again, I totally made this more work on myself. However, I truly have a whole new appreciation for film editors after these last two weeks. I really wanted to incorporate some films that I haven’t used much (if at all) this semester. So featured in this short commercial is: Sixteen Candles (1984), Field of Dreams (1989), Beetlejuice (1989), National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983), Trading Places (1983), E.T. (1982), Karate Kid (1984), Footloose (1984), The Outsiders (1983), The Jetsons (an outside in this group – the show originally aired in the ’60s, but made a brief return in the ’80s) , A Christmas Story (1983), and Top Gun (1986).

The voice over is actually from the commercial I did for our Radio Show. I messed with the audio a litter. In retrospect I wish I hadn’t. Because of the way I had made the commercial initially I was not able to separate my talking from the music. Something else if I were to go back I would do. I would probably exchange it from something more up-beat.

Nonetheless, I have fun making this. I used iMovie for the video and GarageBand to manipulate the audio.

This by far was my favorite project of this week. I have had to spend a lot of time with family this week so they helped be with this project. I got to have an insight on the 80s and had some 80’s girls help creating this commercial so I could stick to our theme for this project.

To start, we all brainstormed ideas; where it would be filmed, what would occur during each scene, etc. Next I recorded a few short films of my grandma’s closet (she was not happy that we made a mess of it). Then I added the clips with my family members in it, despite what they said, they loved their choreography.

Lastly I put them all together in iMovie and added Madonna’s Material Girl to it to create this commercial. Let me know what you think!

UPLOAD TO YOUTUBE @ VIMEO

I created this in iMovie where I chose the circle to open transition in the beginning and a fade to white at the end. I decided to hold my phone up in front of the camera so you can see Micheal Jackson singing and I like how there was reflection within the background where you can see another view of Jackson. Below is the script that I read and wrote for this commercial. I would probably print out a picture of Jackson next time if my printer is working. I am learning that I do have a mono tone voice.

Hello everyone! Michael Jackson will be playing at Innsbrook After Hours Friday November 15th! Buy your tickets online and Reserve the best seats closest to the stage! We are expecting to sell out of tickets in four days! Tickets go on sale today at noon. Good luck and see you at Innsbrook After Hours!”

This is the original link to the assignment, worth 5 stars. The assignment asked, “Create a promotional commercial for an event or product that is coming out in the future. Once you have created the video post it to youtube and tag ds106.” I created this in iMovie and used the FaceTime cam available on there. I decided to get my boyfriend to act in this commercial for me. I told him what he was going to say and we practiced this a couple of times. He has a natural voice for advertising!
