TikTok or Not

Original DS 106 Assignment: TikTok Of Your Pet (3 stars)

What’s more modern than TikTok? Probably the “Tap to Pay” feature, but I’m not sure how to make that so we will stick to TikTok. Upon extensive research, one of the most popular sounds is a mix of the Mission Impossible theme song, it goes dun dun dunnnnnn, dun dun duuun, DUN and repeats. To showcase a skill and include a trending sound, I scouted far and wide to find a potential lead. After several interviews and mixes with sounds the below was produced.

Lead Actor: Muffin
Producer: Evelyn

Steps We Took To Create This Masterpiece

Step 1: Open the TikTok app and select to record at the bottom middle of the app.

Step 2: Set the scene. For this scene, we start with the lead coming in at a left strong axis and immediately staying on the right side to show their position is positive. *This took a bit of practice so budget time for that*

Tip: Lighting! For this scene the lighting is darker to focus on the red laser and increase the intensity.

Step 3: Add Audio. TikTok has a great feature that can have popular audios or music to add to videos. Shuffling through them before recording can give you inspiration or finding one after can be the perfect fit.

Step 4: Save to Vimeo. This way we can upload it to Canva to add intro/outro.

Step 5: Upload to Canva and add intro and outro slides to meet assignment requirements!

Step 6: Download and save to Vimeo! This can be shared and embedded into other social medias and even blog posts!

TikToks of Colton

I made two TikToks of my dog Colton. One was made with a new video and one was made with an old video. These are the first TikToks I have ever made, so don’t be too harsh.

This video was from 2018. Colton had only been with us for three months and this was his first snow day in his new home. We didn’t know how he felt about snow, but we learned pretty quickly. I decided to use the most popular song/trend on TikTok.

For my second video, I wanted to use a funny filter on Colton since he doesn’t like to move around much during the day (he likes his sofas). Surprisingly, there weren’t a lot of filters that I could use on a dog, but quite a few I could use on a cat (kudos to TikTok because it didn’t recognize Colton as a cat). Colton is by no means a gangsta, but his lack of energy paired with the song is pretty funny.

Quirky Cat

For this assignment, I was told to create a funny TikTok of one of my pets with narration and/or a popular sound playing in the background. In order to check off every list, I decided to showcase my cat Luna’s “rituals,” or the way she reacts every time I do some random, particular action. Off the top of my head, I could think of 4 things: Running to my toes to get pet by them when I wiggle them, running into the closet and hopping up onto the skateboard when I open the door, jumping into my drawer when opening it, and laying on my backpack when putting it facedown. All of these ideas came to me instantly because they stand out the most as things that are kind of weird but trigger something like clockwork for her. The hardest part of creating this video would have been getting Luna to come to my room and stay around long enough for all the demonstrations, but luckily I caught her at a time when she was feeling social and wanted attention, so realistically this video was quite easy to make. I went with this specific sound to add some background music while I wasn’t talking, making it a bit less awkward, but also because it is a very recognizable song on silly little internet videos.

Dumpling being Dumpling

I would like to preface this video is from a year ago. Dumpling is alive and well, and continues to climb the top of her cage (that has a proper top on it now because of an incident LOL).

I was honestly going to choose option one for this week, because I’ve been really enjoying these long form stories but I also really enjoy the assignment bank. Since we haven’t used the assignment bank much, I kind of missed it so I decided to just go with that option.

For this assignment, it was pretty simple: make a TikTok of your animal doing something funny. As soon as I saw this one I knew I had the perfect video for this, and I also spend way too much time on TikTok so I was like what a perfect excuse to get on it some more ya know.

The method for this was pretty straightforward. I found the video I wanted to use, and then uploaded it to TikTok. I then looked through the different sounds to figure out which one I wanted. I initially was going to do Free Fallin’ by Tom Petty, but the video wasn’t long enough and it just didn’t sound as funny as I hoped. Then I stumbled across this Wii sound, and then I started to think “this is probably what goes on in my hamsters head when she’s doing this,” no thoughts. So I then placed the sound on the TikTok and moved it around a bit so her falling would match up to the sound, and that’s it!

Pepper: The Star of the Show

*** three stars

For this assignment, I had to make a TikTok of my dog doing a funny trend and then add a popular sound over it. This sound is pretty popular, it is a squeaky sound (like a toy) that you are supposed to play in front of your dog to see how they react!

TikTok of your pet

Create a TikTok of your pet doing something funny! Put a silly or popular sound over the video, or maybe a voiceover.
