Video Assignment – Make a Tutorial for Your Mom

This assignment was to create a video tutorial for your mom (or anyone really) who doesn’t know how to do something on the computer.  I got a new Apple in September, and my mom helped me pay for it in exchange for my old mac, which is great because she loves it!  It’s also great because my old mac would have died due to this class.  Anyways, I have been trying to get my mom to video chat with me, but she doesn’t know how to set up a Skype account, and I never remember when I go visit her.  This assignment is the perfect opportunity to send her a step-by-step tutorial on how to do so.  I will keep you updated if she tries it, and hopefully she will!

* for best results, make the video full screen, if it is difficult to see!

This took a lot longer than I thought it would, as I had to redo it a few times.  I reinstalled Skype over 3 times, and created at least 3 new Skype accounts.  Having a list or outline of what I needed to do was very helpful.  I found it was easiest after running through all the steps a few time before recording, to know what to expect.  Having a screen typed up with all of my personal information also made it go faster (one of my earlier tries was almost 10 mins long! TOO LONG!).  I realize this one is also a little long, at almost 7 minutes, and I was surprised how long it actually took (I think I imagined it taking no more than 3 minutes).  I will definitely do more of these just for fun/to show my family how to do stuff, or for future tutorial assignments in this class.

Assignment worth 5 stars.

Make a Tutorial for you Mom

Make a short tutorial showing someone who is not very familiar with computers or asks you to do something for them all the time because they don’t know how. It doesn’t have to be for your mom, it can be for grandpa, sister, etc. This example is pretty long (I didn’t make it, I just found it), but it doesn’t need to be this long, and it can be showing how to do one thing and not every thing.
