The Number 0 In Nature

This was the last video assignment. It is worth 4 stars! This assignment was to make a compilation of findings of a number in nature or other places. I thought the easiest one would be “0”.

I started by typing in oval shapes in nature. This gave me a lot of responses. The only change-up I did was some of those objects would be in some kind of relation with the character I have created, Olivia. I kept it hidden and want you to guess which objects would go with Olivia? If you have been following this character, then it shouldn’t be too hard of a game.

I used the song:Symphony by Anna O because that’s what zero seems to me. Just a very simple number. It’s an incredible song! You can listen to this whole song here:

This video was very fun to make and to hide in meanings.

Here is my progress page from it!

AND finally the final product! Let me know in the comments what you think belongs/related to Olivia!

Don’t know Olivia? Check out her intro page here!

Say Hi to Olivia

8 Days A Week

The next assignment I did this week was Movies by Numbers. The goal of this assignment is to represent a number using artistic representations and music that is related to the topic. Now to start off I needed to chose a number. The number I landed on was 8. I chose 8 mainly because I really like the song Eight Days A Week by The Beatles. And obviously I chose that as my audio track for this video. Next, I had to gather all the images I wanted to add to my video. To do this, i essentially tried to think about all things that include the number 8.

After I collected enough images, I started creating my video using iMovie. My first step was to create the opening text and credits that I wanted to add. Then I added my images to the video. Once I had placed all my images in, I added the music track to this video, and to be honest I love how this song meshed with the vibe of the video. The only other thing I needed to do was determine the movement and focus I wanted on each photo. This included cropping and using ken burns, and also determining the motions for these.

Now, Here’s my video for this assignment:

Overall, I really liked this assignment. It wasn’t too difficult but it allowed me to work with the fundamentals of video editing. It also taught me how to create a general theme within a video, that being the number 8. If you would like to check out this assignment, you can find it here.

This assignment was worth a total 3 stars out of 5.

Giving me a total of 16 stars for the week. I hope everyone enjoyed this video, and I have one more to do for the week so stay tuned! Til next time everyone. I hope everybody has a great weekend! See ya!

Five

I’ve never been one to really attach myself to a specific number but I do have an affinity for the number 5. Maybe it was the result of my middle school basketball number or taking too many AP courses in high school. Anyways, I decided it would fit well in the assignment Movies by Numbers.

I found the pictures through a simple google although gathering them was a bit more time consuming than I anticipated. I tried to find images with a wide range of emotion and meaning so it took quite a while to gather a significant amount of images.

The music I used was by David Nevue and came form my iTunes library, with just a little bit of editing in Audacity I managed to match the video time.

I then organized the images in Windows Movie Maker, I started off with some of the more generic fives and tried to make it more gradually abstract. I set the first and last images to a 3 second time frame and the rest to 1 second giving the film a bit of pace.

Four

It’s been a while now since I realized my lucky number is 4.  I see this number everywhere I go, no matter what format it’s in.  Not only that but I was born on 4/14, April 14.  Hmm.

I decided to do the Movies by Number assignment on the number 4 for these reasons.

I found all the pictures for this video by simply googling certain words and picking the pictures that represented four of something.  I didn’t want to do this so literal by having the number four repeatedly in different fonts, so I chose symbols instead.

The music is just a piano instrumental I found on Youtube, which I downloaded with http://en.savefrom.net/.  I then used an online converter to turn it into a WAV file to upload to Audacity.  I also found the heartbeat from freesound.

Once I collected all my pictures I placed them in Windows Live Movie Maker in a random order and looked out how long it was.  I then uploaded the piano music to Audacity and trimmed it down to fit the length of the movie and the heartbeat sound.
background music

Back on movie maker, I placed the sounds where I wanted them to be, and made each picture one second long.  I chose this length because I didn’t want the pictures to drag on, I wanted them to be showed fairly quickly.  After I got everything done I uploaded it to youtube.

Movies by Numbers

For my first video assignment this week I did Movies by Numbers which was worth three stars. In this assignment you had to pick any number and then use pictures to show how it is used in the world around us.  After finding your pictures you had to then pick a song to go along with it and make them into a movie.

As soon as I found this assignment I knew that I had to do it.  I am currently OBSESSED with the song 22 by Taylor Swift (you are even going to see that song pop up again in another one of my video assignments later). So I obviously picked the number 22.  To find my pictures I started off by just simply google image searching the number 22.  I expected to have to look harder than that but I actually came across a ton of pictures that I wanted to use.

Once I got all of my pictures saved on my computer, I went a head and imported them into iMovie.  After getting the pictures in I uploaded the song 22 in as well.  I cut out the beginning of the song and just found parts of the chorus to put the pictures with.   I decided to do this because a three minute video of pictures of the number 22 would be quite extensive and while the whole song is about being 22 the chorus is the only part that really explicitly says the number 22.

After getting everything imported like I wanted, I went ahead and arranged the pictures in a way that I wanted and cut them a little bit here and there to make them flow better and so that it ended at the right part.

Here is my final product.  Hope you like it:

Three stars down and thirteen to go!

Number Three Is Everywhere

The next assignment I chose to tackle was the movies by numbers assignment, which required that you create a video that, “represents a single number in an artful way.” I scanned through some of the previous works done and did not see any on the number three, so I went with that. My goal for the assignment was to not explicitly tell the viewer what the reference to the number three was, but rather for them to figure it out on their own. I thought that would make the video a bit more interactive, rather than just simply showing the viewer exactly why each image represents the number three. Some of the references include Three’s Company, Three Billy Goats Gruff, and a “Three hour tour”.

To bring this assignment to life I used Google Image searches to find all the photos used, and again used iMovie compile them all. To go along with the theme of three, the audio I chose for the clip was “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley. I really enjoyed coming up with clever references to the number three, and although it took a long time, I am proud of the result.

Movies by Numbers

  • Movies by Numbers, In this assignment we had to use a number and then things that are relevant to that number, and here is the link. Some students did the number 1 and added music and pictures that are relevant to that number.
  • I chose this assignment because I think it is cool how certain numbers symbolized certain things. The number 7 is one of my favorite numbers and so this is why I chose it. I have experience with the number 7 with buying a lottery ticket and winning some money.
  • The story behind the number 7 is that I used different clips that represent the number 7 for example the 7 wonders of the world, 7 deadly sins, 007, triple 7 etc. It was fun to find different pictures that represent the number.
  • I used movie maker to make my video. I got all my clips from google images. I put the clips together in movie maker and added the instrumental of 007  as the background music.
  • I showed some friends and it was amazing how somethings were brought to their attention of how the number 7 represents certain things.

Three is company!

  • I did the Movies by Numbers. Here we had to take various pictures to describe a number and add a song that relates to that number as well. I watched both a video on number one which was interesting because it was just pictures of the number one in different forms. I also watched a video on the number two which for me was a better example as it showed different thing that represented the number two.
  • I chose this assignment because I wanted to see how many things I could find that represent a number. I got inspired with the number 3. I thought of the song Three is company and so I found various images to fit that. For me this relates because I do find 3 is good company unless u are the third wheel. :P
  • I went onto Google and searched images of “3“. This is where I got all my pictures from. I then remember my grandma always raving about three’s company and John Ritter. So obviously this song fit for my video.
  • I got all my images from google then put them into WMM. After which I recorded this youtube insturmental version of three is company.
  • This assignment was one of the easier ones for me. I showed it to my roommate and she said it filled the assignment correctly.

Movies By Numbers ***

I watched Andrew‘s Movies by Numbers (the number 2). I liked the music from Mad Man, I was really excited to hear it.  It felt like a slow video to watch.. Although, I do really want to commend him on finding a variety of pictures with the number 2 in them. I have seen other videos were there wasn’t a lot of boring. I was really impressed by the change in music. It was beautifully overlapped and edited. I wonder if that was done in an audio program or in the video program. Toward the end, I was confused on where the number two was in the picture. However, I trust there is two there somewhere and I’m just missing it.

I watched ” 9 of all Glory“.  I found the video a little creepy and eerie, has a lot to do with the music and the images. The effects of the image in particular had an eerie effect. I know she used VideoPad Video Editor and I wonder if it is more sophisticated than my Window Movie Maker, because I have yet to discover how to edit effects like that. I really like how she started the video off with a math equation that added up to 9. That was clever. I, also, was impressed that she used other version on the number 9, such as 99.

I had look at this assignment, and thought.. mmm I could do this. It looks relatively low editing of video. I thought to myself what number…there is no limit to the numbers in the world. I remember, then , growing-up my father always said he was a mathematician. However, being the naive little girl I was, I thought he meant a math-a-magician. I always had just assumed that he did magic with numbers. This story reminded me of School House Rock, in particular – “Three is a Magic Number“. I listen to the video and was inspired to collect some photographs. Then, I was thinking well this is lame. So I thought what is a cooler “3″ song, and The Hangover came into my head. “ Three Best Friends” song would be perfect for some of the addition photographs I have of groups of three. Thus, the concept was born.

The story here is that many things in life comes in “3″: two is a couple but three is a family; three wheels makes a tricycle; laundry detergent, soften, and dryer sheet makes the most convenient laundry day, etc. It a story of the wonders of “3″. I gets the audience thinking about the world around them, putting numbers to the world around them.

In order to do this I put all the pictures in Windows Movie Maker. I added by audacity edited music clips to the pictures. This time I went a big further to adjust the amount of time spent on each picture so some of the picture were timed to the lyrics. Once that was done, I did some fade out/in of the music. Saving and uploading, and the process was complete. Don’t get me wrong… it was time consuming, but the bulk of my time was spent on conceptualizing the video.

Picture are below: 3-in-1 Purex,3M, 3 Crosses on the Hill, Toy Story 3 ,Faith Hope Love, Girl Scout Sign, Tricycle, Triangle Sunset, 3 mph, Life has changed, 3rd street,  3 little pigs, triplets, 3 is a magic number.

One is the Loneliest Number

Movies by Numbers

Create a video that artistically presents a single number in artful ways- show how it is represented in the world or nature. Add a relevant musical track, no narration, let the number and the visuals tell the story.  See Darren Kuropatwa’s Number 9

This is a 3 star assignment

When I came across this assignment in the video assignment repository I immediately thought of the song. One by Three Dog Night.  This song made my number choice easy, as I am going to pick number one.  For this assignment I have found many pictures with the number one and it looking lonely.  There are also going to be pictures of just the number one, and the number one written out.

2 Reviews of Previously done work:

1. Number 9 by Darren Kuropatwa:  This is the once that is shown as the example.  I really like the number 9 personally.  When I used to play soccer for fun in elementary school I always wanted to have the shirt with 9 on the back.  I really liked how this video included everything that related to number 9.  I also really liked how at the end of the video there were facts about the number 9.  I also love how in the back ground is someone saying Number 9, number 9.  This video was really well done.

2. Number 1: I decided to review the number that I plan on working with as well.  Though I am not a big fan of the kind of music played in the background the song was relevant to the number 1. I really like how this person found different ways to create the number 1.  Though I have to say that after watching the entire video I think this person could have kept more pictures of the number 1 or items that represent the number 1.  I was starting at a blank video screen at 1 minute and 25 seconds.  The whole video time was 3 minutes and 50 seconds. Over half of the video was a black screen.

The links below are for all the images in this video in order:  I believe that the descriptions that I gave the pictures in order tell a story itself, about different uses of the numebr one.  One is used in a lot of different situations and one stands alone by itself.  These are all images of just one thing.  They all stand alone.

1. Number 2  2. One in Star  3. One Star  4. No  5. One dog  6. Yes   7. One Direction 8. OneRepublic  9. One Apple  10. One Sad Face 11. One Broken Heart 12. One Billiard Ball  13. One Bowling Pin 14. One Golf Ball 15. One Stuffed Animal 16. Number one in Red 17. One Pencil  18. One Sock 19. One Teardrop 20. Number one represented by hand   21. Green Written out One 22.  Beatles 1 Album  23. One with Blue O  24. One Tree Hill  25. One By Image

The images I chose to be in this video all represent 1 and how it can be lonely  as well as the different uses of the number one in band names or how its represented by people and things.  You’re probably wondering why there is the number 2, and the words yes and no in this video.  I’ll tell you why.  They represent the lyrics in the song.  Watch the video and you will see.  While making this video I gathered many images from google images (as you can see linked above) and uploaded them into Windows movie maker.  I then added the song into this by clicking the add music option in window’s movie maker.  After that I then ordered the images in a way so they fit the song.  This time while using window’s movie maker I added text to give my video a title and at the end I added credits by using the credits option in window’s movie maker.  I’m really happy with how this video came out.  I think this is some of my better video work.  I have definitely been feeling more comfortable using Window’s movie maker.

Below is my embedded YouTube video, again any feedback is appreciated.  :)
