For my last video assignment this week, I wanted to do this one because I think it captured a lot of really important aspects of film that we’ve been studying and practicing these past two weeks.

As I worked on my videos, I learned that film and specific scenes have a lot happening in a short time, yet still need a single theme to make the scene cohesive. Additionally, there needs to be recurring aspects that tie various scenes together. It is incorporating this aspect of design to video that really makes the story come to life.

After all my character assignments this week, I noticed a trend. The assignments were very different, but most of them tied back to the noir aesthetic, and my character’s story specifically.

I thought this frame perfectly captured my character’s video journey because much of his story contains scenes in nighttime, dim light, outside, and with shadows. I definitely noticed this connection throughout all my videos this week, and I knew that this screencap perfectly captured the storyline I created with this collection of videos.

Monsters Inc. Framed

Here is a frame that represents the movie, Monsters Inc

Lion King : Framed

For my last Video Assignment of this week I decided to do the “Framed” version of one of my favorite movies and scenes. The assignment asked for a 2 minute movie scene and a picture from the scene that represents the scene at best.

For this Framed assignment I decided to do the ending scene from the Lion King. I thought that this would be an awesome scene to represent because this is probably one of my favorite childhood movies and this scene is so significant. The movie represents a theme of Heroism and I think the framed picture that I took from this scene represents that as well. This movie is always really easy to use for a lot of assignments simply because I don’t know a single person who hasn’t seen it and wouldn’t understand the reference.

The clip that I chose from the movie was the ending scene where Simba is finally acknowledged as the King and able claim his dominance after the support of his family and friends. I decided on this scene because I knew that it would be easy to frame a picture that represents not only the scene but a huge aspect of the overall movie.

After finding my clip on youtube, I simply used www.keepvid.com to download it onto my computer… I watched the video numerous times, but decided on the picture I wanted and simply took a screenshot of it and uploaded it onto my flickr account.

Here’s the clip that I decided I would represent:

I took the shot of Simba being onto of the cliff howling in order to claim his dominance and acceptance of his new found role as King.

The Fox and the Hound: Framed

Framed is an assignment that involves taking a 2 minute video and and going through the frames until you find one that represents the overall story of the video. I wasn’t exactly sure what this idea meant so I looked at Amelia’s example with the Pursuit of Happyness. She perfectly showed the main theme of the movie.

I chose to do this with The Fox and the Hound. I seem to be going on a Disney kick lately so I decided to keep it up. I really like the theme behind the movie, Friendship. It is about a very unlikely friendship between a hound dog and a fox. In the movie, they are technically supposed to be mortal enemies. However, like in most Disney movies the good overcomes the evil and they are friends for life. It has some sad parts, but I like to ignore those.

I chose the beginning clip where Todd and Copper first meet. It is obviously vital to the whole story. Without this clip, there would be no movie.

The frame I chose within the clip was where Todd and Copper interact for the first time by touching noses. Copper realizes that Todd is what he has been trailing. It is kind of ironic because they both have no idea that they are not meant to be friends.

To get this clip I downloaded it using keepvid. I then converted it to a .wmv file using Real Player. The clip was about 3 minutes long so I cut it down to a little over two minutes. I also thought it was a bit dark so I added an effect that lightened the clip.

Framed–Two Stars (Streaking through the Sky)

So for two stars, we have to find a single frame of a video that represents the entire video?  Well, here is something with huge muscles, so it should be fun to look through for single frames.   This is the opening to the recent anime adaptation of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.  It was a manga series, and then a cultural phenomenon, and then a couple of anime adaptations and a video game.  Of course, it’s only recently gotten a 100% faithful, from the start of the series adaptation into an anime.  Of course, the very old school storytelling from the ’80s and the infancy of the manga/anime industry shows in its direction and storytelling style.

And very often, the entirety of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure just boils down to this.

Huge muscly men punching each other while shouting for…somewhat strange reasons.  Also, JoJo’s hands are on fire.  Except it’s not ACTUALLY fire.  It’s a representation of how awesome he is.

In the end, lots of battle anime end up being reduced to “men punch each other while on fire” but JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure makes it “HUGE men punch each other while on fire.”  And I think that’s pretty cool.

“Take a 2 minute video and go through the frames until you find the one that best represents the overall story of your video.”

I choose to use this trailer for the Pursuit of Happyness:

and I think this frame sums up the trailer and movie in general:

This scene is when Will solves a Rubiks Cube after the man in the car with him tells him he can’t, which is a pretty major theme in the movie. You can do anything you set your mind to and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

I made this frame by finding a Pursuit of Happyness trailer on youtube, and taking a screen shot of the frame I wanted.
