Number Two…Here We Go!

Title: Live Here!

Description: For this assignment I was asked to make a 90 second video about why my residence hall is the best place to live on campus.

Inspiration: After the description of this assignment I immediately thought about when I was a incoming freshman here at the University and I was trying to decide where to live. I wish there had been some sort of guide out there to help me decide on which dorm to live in! I didn’t know anything about the campus or the different themed living communities that they had on campus. This would have helped me so much and I think a lot of other students as well.

Process: For this assignment I recorded myself talking about my Iphone about the reasons to live in Eagle Landing. After recording myself I then uploaded my video on Youtube. After uploading it I downloaded it to my computer using WinX Youtube Downloader. I then opened the video into Windows Movie Maker, added some special effects, and title slide and credit slide. I used the Trim tool to do some editing and I added three visual effects to the movie (spin, wrap, and 3D ripple) to give it more substance. And Viola!

Example: There was only one previous example of this assignment done. Here is the link to that example:

Example 1

I felt that overall this example was not very effective at getting the story across. It honestly just reminded me of someone just documenting their day to day life. The video also didn’t really go by the directions of the assignment. First, the video was only supposed to be 90 seconds long and the girl lived off campus with her family (so it kind of really went against the purpose of the assignment). However, even ignoring all this she never really gives me any reason to want to come live at her house. She basically is just giving me a tour of her house.

My Video:

Eagle Landing is where its at!

  • I did the the assignment Live Here! Here we were asked to describe and advertise for our dorm/living area and promote it. So I did a video around my apartment and described what features we have at Eagle Landing that other dorms wouldnt have.  I looked at the original example to get an idea of what to do. This task was a bit nerve racking because I had to be in front of the camera and come up with things that would interest someone to live in Eagle Landing.
  • I chose this assignment because it was 5 stars and an opportunity to talk about my apartment and be in front of the camera, which I hate. This made me think of features that our apartment has and made me realize how much flexibility we really have, not living in an dorm and still be apart of Campus.
  • TO make this video I used my iFlip. The iflip comes with a flip program that makes movies. So i was able to add a Title and credits at the end. This story describes our way of how we live daily at UMW.
  • So like I said I was able to use the iflip program. Here you just select which videos you want to put into a movie. The rest is done for you. I did not have to cut anything out for this video. I thought it was good as is. I added a Title in the beginning and credits at the end which is done through the movie maker as well.

Live At Monticello Apartments!

Scrolling through video assignments i came across “Live Here!”. The assignment details were to show off where you lived and try to convince other students that where you live is the best place to live. I live in Monticello Apartments which is located right across the street from the Fredericksburg Police Department. It is a great place to live and you will find out why in this video:

Live Here!

Come live at my house! 5*

Come live at my house! It’s roomy, comfy, and is always stocked with food…. Except this week because I’m the adult in the house. UMW decided to run a contest called “Live Here!” it asked students to make a video of their dorm to persuade other students to want to live there. There were some kind of prizes involved, plus… you’d gain awesome new friends. Since I don’t live on campus, I did my house… which is fantastic! Here, watch:
