A Whole New World

This challenge is about placing members of your family in a world that’s too big for them. I chose to place my mum next to some daffodils. The two photos were taken metres apart within seconds, but in this photo they juxtapose well.

I used this video from Serif’s own bank of tutorials to help me with this technique, which was new to me.

The greatest challenges – and how to overcome them – are:

1. Choosing a good image of your subjects – the cleaner the background, the easier it will be to remove them from it.  I made the mistake of choosing a pic of my mum in front of a historic house!

2. Fine tuning those virtual scissors - again, choosing a nice simple image is key, but also be sure to use the ‘zoom’ tool when you’re extracting people from your original scene as even the smallest bits of background will show up in your new creation

3. Is it a fitting tribute? - as you choose your images, it’s wise to consider your subject’s expression, their body language and what they’re wearing… before you place a beautifully cut out skier on a lush green meadow….

Thanks for the challenge, ds106!

A Whole New World, and the Tutorial

The assignment was “Take a picture of your subject (grandparents, pet, yourself) and put it into a totally different background in which they appear abnormally too small or too large. Think of Honey, we shrunk the kids…”

I took my friend who was dressed up for Oktoberfest and I placed him in a classroom.  I was originally going to put him in a preschool, but I thought that might be creepy.

Here’s the tutorial explanation:

1.  You are going to start by saving the picture you want to use… and then upload it into photoshop.

2. You need to select the person so that you can make them smaller or larger.  I use Quick Mask Mode, and the paintbrush tool.  After you have colored in the person, leave Quick Mask Mode, and you should have “ants” around the person.

3.  Open a new canvas, and put the background picture on this canvas.

4.  Go back to the first canvas, with your person.  Copy and paste it onto the background canvas.  Resize it to the size that you would like.  You can click on the layer and then click Command T (if you are using a Mac) to change the size, and hold the Shift key down while you are resizing it to keep its proportions.

5.  You are going to need to change the picture a little bit.  When you’re on the layer of the person, go to Image> Adjustments>Shadows/Highlights.  Alter it so that it matches up with the background as much as possible.

6.  You can then use the blur tool to make sure the edges of the person and background are not too sharp or awkward.  You can also use the burn tool to add a shadow where it should be in the picture.

That’s it!

PS – The background image (classroom) was found here.

I did this assignment because I thought it would be easy, as it was. I just wish that i would have done this more creative as I looked at other assignment that has been done before mine like in YUE blog i must say Love her editing in this picture is so awesome, made me wonder why i played it safe and didn’t go outside the box i might revisit this assignment and do it again me riding a dog as if he was a horse or something.

With this assignment I didn’t do much I took one of my personal pictures and shrunk it while I left the background how I found it on google I moved my image in different places and angles until I felt that it looked more natural and blended well. I defiantly feel that we should take advantage of the course and never stick to what seems easy but more daring that way you learn something out of it. This assignment was worth two stars**.

A Whole New World

Hey guys! Here is my first DS106 assignment for this 3rd section :) )

I decided first to go for one of the visual assignments called “A Whole New World” I read the instructions and sounded fun and easy to do it !

Here are the instructions:

“Take a picture of your subject (grandparents, pet, yourself) and put it into a totally different background in which they appear abnormally too small or too large. Think of Honey, we shrunk the kids…”

Process:

Step1 First I looked on Flicker a good picture that I can use for this assignment

Step2 Then I looked on my iPhone, a matachable picture

Step3 With Picasa 3 I changed a little bit the colors of each picture

Step4 Then with FotoFlexer, I edited the second picture of myself by cutting down and then put it on the other picture

Step5 With FotoFlexer, I used the effect called “old photo” to give the picture a better look, a old look

and DONE!:)

Story: Here I am going to put the pictures of my process

The original ones

?

Recently, I’ve been drinking too much capucchino that I think I got addicted to it. I used to hate coffee but I started drinking it since last year as they keep me awake. So usually when I wanted to keep awake all night to study I drink coffe or capucchino. But now I’m drinking it too much that the effect has weaken :P

Anyways, I love to play around and edit pictures. This was the first time to cut a particular part within the pictuer (in this case, myself) and put it into another picure. It was really fun and so easy to do it.

DS106-A Whole New World

DS106-A Whole New World

In this assignment, it requires to take a picture of your subject such as grandparents, pet, yourself

and put it into a totally different background in which they appear abnormally too small or too large.

First, I wish the coffee is not too hot.

After I saw this assignment, I thought about the micro human being.

I have ever wished that I could be small like that,

because I would not feel crowded  on Japanese subway in the morning,

and could have free trip by hyding somebody’s bags.

I used my picture when I was 17 year-old,

and changed the size of my photo to fit into the coffee cup photo.

But, one thing that I didnt satisfy about this assigment is that there is no wave around my feet;

it makes the photo little unnatural.

Anyway, I  had fun with doing this assignment.
