Post “Secret”

Here is a sticky note explaining what I would like to do in the future.

Post “Secret”

For my third assignment I chose to do a post secret which is worth 1 point completing the points that I need for the week. The prompt can be found at:

I chose to share one of my travel dreams which is to back pack across South America from Patagonia up into Columbia for a year. I met several people in my travels in Ecuador who where doing this and enjoyed every second of it. Therefore, it has become on of my goals in life to do the same!

The set up for this assignment was pretty easy. I wrote out my goal on a posted note and stuck it on the map I have in my room. Take a picture and bam your done!

Tom’s Files: A Wish

Admin Note: This assignment is a visual assignment for the week of 1-26 to 2-1, and is worth 1 point of 5 required points involving the character Tom Blair.

Hey, Tom here.

I’m not sure what a ‘post-it’ note is, so I wrote this up on a piece of paper I found in my pocket.

I reckon my greatest wish would be to reverse time, back to when everyone was happy and together.

Back to when dreaming about the future wasn’t a waste of time.

I don’t really wish to say more than that.

Tom Blairs Greatest Wish

Thanks,

Tom

To Lead By Example

I don’t want to be a mom that tells my kids to do something even though I didn’t do it first. So I am determined to finish college to lead by example. A good old fashioned post-it, a sharpie, and my flickr app was my best friend on this assignment.

ds106 Assignment

Write on a “post-it” (haha, get it. “Post” secret.) your biggest dream in life. What are you going to school to accomplish? ds106 Assignment Post “Secret”
Who would you like to meet? What is your dream job? Whatever it is, it shouldn’t be a “secret”! Tell the whole internet world!

As much as I love the Pacific Northwest in all its natural beauty with the mountains and sound, sometimes the winter months are just too long. I would love to be a Snowbird and live half the year in the beautiful Puget Sound area and half the year, well, someplace warm. The problem is figuring out how to fit this logistics lifestyle into a professional life and make a comfortable living residing in two different states. Any suggestions?

Getting snap happy

Alas, I skipped week 4 (audio fun times) entirely due to work and my family visiting, and week 5 (photography) has so far been hampered by me contracting what feels like the plague, but what is really just a bad cold that I’ve not been coping so well with. (Unfortunately, there is photographic evidence).

However, I have been reading up on things at the ds106 blog – sitting in on the visual assignment Google Hangout and watching the inspiring photography lectures and video resources posted there. I thought I’d give two of the assignments a try today, as I’ve been feeling marginally more human: the Post “Secret”, and the Photoblitz.

Here is what – thanks to the power of Lemsip (other cold and flu remedies available), and the camera on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (other mobile phones available) – I managed to come up with.

My secret wish…

Assignment #804: “Write on a “post-it” (haha, get it. “Post” secret.) your biggest dream in life. What are you going to school to accomplish? Who would you like to meet? What is your dream job? Whatever it is, it shouldn’t be a “secret”! Tell the whole internet world! After you take the picture, upload it to flickr and make sure to include the tags!”

I cheated here, I’m afraid, and did the whole thing as a drawing, using Sketchbook Pro on an iPad.

As to the wish.. I always seem to hear about people who say they don’t want to live forever. But I wouldn’t mind it. The world is so fascinating, with new and completely unanticipated things happening every day. Life is endlessly entertaining. I just want to see how it all turns out.

Feeling Air, Breathing Water

… so I read about the idea to take a photograph of a post it note, where you can read about my biggest dream in life.

I thought about it and after some time I decided the “Post”Secret assignment idea is about yearning.

I have so many dreams and after all can not decide which is the biggest, but in any dream I can find longing for something I have not. With my photo of my post it note I tried to catch this.

What also adds to the note is that I read earlier about Gestalt Psychology, where the principle of “closure” in a photo is explained. This means that the viewer adds information which is not in the photo but obvious. My words as well as the photo are intending to activate the viewers imagination to make sense of what they see.

I have found the page about this principle on this week guidance for the headless ds106 course.

Wings&Giles

I felt like being in a dream while preparing the photo for this page and it was a ‘good bye’ when I tidied up after I had taken the photo. I was not able to toss away the post it, but it now has a place on my wall.

Wings&Giles preserved on my wall.

As to the making of the picture, the most you can see yourself, but I also edited it in my new Photoshop
(which by the way works badly, because Adobe is not able to solve their problem with Microsoft’s Windows 8),
by adding a lightning effect.
