Bubbles in Chocolate Milk

Creating a picture using only 4 lines, 5 dots, and 1 curve seemed hard at first because I had no idea what I could create with that. However, the assignment “4 lines, 5 dots, 1 curve” (3.5 pts) asked you to do just that. However, this assignment made me think about what was actually important to the picture because it was impossible to add extra stuff to the picture. I decided to start with the lines (partly because it came first in the prompt and partly because they are simple). A couple lines and a curve could make what looks like those glasses that you can get milkshakes in at diners. To use my special glass and by 5 dots, I decided to create a picture of bubbles in chocolate milk:

chocolate milkI have never seen bubbles like this, but I attempted to make them seem somewhat realistic by being kind of see through, and higher on one side than the other. That is what happened whenever I blew bubbles in my milk. The straw is red like the thick ones you get with milkshakes (and it is a milkshake glass as well), but you can’t blow bubbles in milkshakes. However, if I had a special glass every time I drank chocolate milk, I would be a very happy camper. The chocolate milk idea also came from my idea that such a minimalist picture reminds me of what a child would create: pictures with no background and no realism that show what is truly important  in their mind. Likewise, I created this picture in Paint and didn’t worry if it was askew or unrealistic. The important thing here is the great feeling you get when you blow bubbles in chocolate milk.

Cup with Straw

The goal of this assignment was to creat a picture with 4 lines, 5 dots and 1 curve. It was hard for me to think of any object that can be drawn with provided information. So I made my mind to draw the first thing I saw when I look around. It was a mug cup with straw in it. The straw needed only 2 lines and 1 dot. I used rest of them to draw a cup. I used 1 big dots to represent the top part of the cup and 2 dots to draw handle on it and 1 curve at the bottom to connet 2 lines in the cup to finish the shape. I drew I dot on the middle of the cup for decoration.

It was really easy and fun assignment but it required some creativity.

You had to be very creative to do this assignment. It was difficult to figure out what to do, but once I thought of something, it was easy. I decided to create a compass. It’s a little abstract so use your imagination! I used paint to create this image because it had the tools for drawing circles, lines, and curves.

Minamalistic Art

For my last visual assignment of the week, I decided to try out this one that limits our usage to only a few basic shapes: 4 lines, 5 dots, and one curve. I decide to do an artistic rendition of a space view of our home. The 5 dots make up the Earth, the Sun, the Moon, the comet, and the probe. The 4 lines make up the antenna of the probe, and the curve makes up the comet tail. It was fun being limited in terms of what shapes I could use and thinking up what I would have to add into the picture to incorporate everything. Since I was not limited in terms of color, I added a gradient effect to the moon to give a sense of lighting, colored in some of the landmass of Earth, and added a lens flare filter over the Sun. The entire picture was done in GIMP utilizing the simple ellipse, paint fill, and brush tools for color.

A Picture of Minimality (Yes, I made that word up!)

4_5_1_Challenge

So this was an interesting assignment. The goal was to draw something using 4 lines, 5 dots, and 1 curve. I immediately thought of the classic ice cream cone you learn to draw as a kid. I had one big, pink dot, and four smaller ones as sprinkles. Add in a nice caramel curve, and the ice cream itself is finished!

Next came the cone, which required two lines to make (you can sneak an extra curve in if you used the big pink dot). I had two lines left so I decided to cross them to somewhat make a waffle cone.

That was pretty easy! I’d like to see what you can do. Speaking of which, let me know what you think!

Minimalistic Ice Cream

Minimalistic ice cream

I started the assignment 4 Lines, 5 Dots, 1 Curve (worth 4 stars), thinking it would be really difficult to think of something to make with those limitations, but then it came to me…ice cream! I’ll admit I could have been a little more creative with this assignment, but I did want to make something recognizable. The cone uses three lines, the ice cream uses the one curve, and the last line, and then the chocolate chips are the five dots. Mint Chocolate Chip is my favorite ice, especially from Baskin Robbins and so I decided to make the background pink as an homage to Baskin Robbins. I used Pixlr to create this drawing and simply used the shape tool to make my lines and my dots and my one curve. Then I put a vignette filter over the cone to show that it had been baked more in certain areas, and I added noise to the ice cream to give it that frozen kind of texture.

4 lines, 5 dots, 1 curve

Use drawing software a picture using only:

  • 4 lines
  • 5 dots
  • and 1 curve.

The picture can be representative or abstract. Play with size, colour, texture and overlaying – so dots can be large discs or tiny pin-pricks, they can look like spots or holes; curves can be deep or shallow; lines can be thick or skinny, long or short.
