Bonnies Resume

For this assignment, I wrote a resume for Bonnie Sue.

I used my very own resume and just edited it to fit that of Bonnie Sue’s impressive array of school history and skills! The assignment instructions said we could either use a Webpage, Microsoft Word, or LinkedIn.

Enjoy!

Hire Sally!

For this assignment Sally is applying to a job in Fredericksburg, VA. She’s actually applying to be a bartender at Capital Ale! Her resume is a little rough around the edges but she’s surprisingly super smart and active! Here’s to hoping she gets the job. All I did was use Word to produce this resume and posted it below.

This assignment was worth 3 stars.

Job Hunting!

I chose to complete this assignment because I like to complete assignments that involve my created western character, Talie. For this assignment I had to develop a “fake” resume for a fictional person or character as such, I created a resume for Talie, the western character I created for this course. You can read more about Talie here. I had quite a bit of fun creating her resume. For her background/profile I chose a western themed address and an easy email for her to remember. Her skills and abilities revolve around what she studied and researched while in college and what she has learned by working on a ranch throughout her life. For her experience, I put that she works for the EPA monitoring and regulating pesticide and fertilizer use on surrounding Arizona ranches and farms and she also works on her own ranch. I thought these jobs were fitting for a rancher who majored in Agricultural sciences and Natural Resources. As such, for her schooling I wrote that she attended Purdue University which is a well-known university. Since Talie is the owner and operator of her ranch and sells Milk products to the local stores I figured a good leadership example is that she is the President of her own company, the Talie Smith Milk Company. For references I created a similar western character who owns the Tractor store, named Billy Bob. So, if you are looking for someone who is knowledgeable in Agricultural activities, Talie is your girl! See her resume below!

I used a Microsoft word resume format to create Talie’s resume. This assignment was worth three stars contributing to this week’s 10 star requirement.

Character Resume

For this assignment, I had to create a resume for my created character of Buck Smith. It was actually quite easier than I expected because I just used the template that I already had for my own resume still saved on my computer.

All I had to do was erase all of my personal  information from the template, and then fill it in with information that I thought up. I didn’t want the resume to be boring, so I tried to make awards that were sort of silly. I just would think up something that I felt would be included in Buck’s resume and tried to include it. The only thing in the resume that I really had to think about was his education. I decided that Buck being homeschooled would build a stronger bond with his father, who is the sheriff, and would probably be the norm in western communities. Then I chose a university out west that Buck could attend, because Buck should be smart to pull off portraying his dad all the time. The last thing I did for the resume was come up with clubs and activities that Buck would do in college; since he wanted to go into law enforcement, I tried to place Buck into clubs/activities that are well-respected.

To conclude, it was fun trying to expand the character of Buck by making him a resume.

Character Resume: Using either Microsoft Word, creating your own webpage, or using a website like LinkedIn, create a “fake” resume for a fictional person or character of your choice. Add detailed descriptions and make the resume relevant to the character. Resume must include a profile, work history, education, and skills. Locations, job positions, and companies can be made up! Use your creativity! (3.5 stars).

This is a tutorial on how to create a resume using Microsoft Word.

This assignment required me to make a resume for a fictional character,  so I will be showing you all the resume of Katniss Everdeen, from The Hunger Games!

First, I used the application, Microsoft Word, which I already have on my computer. It is a little “W” on my Mac dock.

First, a template-choosing screen comes up called the “Word Document Gallery”. This has a list of templates you can use within the Word document. On the left hand side, you can see there are many things to choose from. There are Calendars, Letters, Fliers, and much more!

I chose the button Resume, in order to create a Resume through Word today.

Beneath the Resume Category, there are a couple styles to choose from. I stuck with the first option called “Blocks Resume” which is a very simple layout, but it has a little blocks detail that gives it some life, in my opinion.

Of course, you can choose whichever layout you prefer!

To customize it further, you are able to choose a color scheme and fonts. Since I was creating a resume for Katniss Everdeen, I decided to go with an earthy tone color scheme called Inspiration. I stuck with the original fonts of this template.

Afterwards, I clicked “Choose” at the very right corner. Let’s begin with our resume!

Screen Shot 2015-12-02 at 3.28.59 PM

As you can see, the template already put my name at the top. This is because normally, I would creating a resume for myself to be submitting, but since I am making a fictional one, I change it to Katniss Everdeen.

This is normally easy, but we are dealing with a Word header. This is a property of the template that makes it seem very professional. In order to change anything in this section, you must double click it and close the header once you are finished.

I filled in the basic information, my address, phone number, and e-mail here, as well.

I decide I do not really like the bright green headers of the words “Summary, Experience, Education, and Skills” so I am going to change the colors of these headers. This is really simple!

The top of Word Document, under “Font” there are many “A”‘s to choose from. The “A” we want has a colored box underneath of it. This button lets you choose what color you want your words to be. I highlighted the Headers that I wanted to change. I clicked this button and the Automatic color is Black. Hit this. Now the color has changed!

Screen Shot 2015-12-02 at 3.32.13 PM

Of course, if the color scheme you chose is perfect to you, you can leave it as is.

I also want to make the headers Italicized. I use the I under “Font“, beside the B and the U. Again, I highlighted the text Experience, and pressed the I. Now, it is Italicized. This enhances the headers more, in my opinion. You may choose to bold or even underline the headers instead.

Now, I need to change the filled in text that was already there (not sure what language this is?!) and replace it with my information to make my resume!

I complete my Objective, which is what you want to get from the job you are applying for.

Then, I decided to use bullets in order to easily list Katniss’s Experience, Education, and Skills. Sometimes, bullets make things easier to read and look at.

Screen Shot 2015-12-02 at 3.53.15 PM

I clicked the button under “Paragraph” that has dots and then lines next to it. This symbolizes the bullets. As you can see there are multiple styles, I just stuck with the plain black. Now, I have bullets and I can list Katniss’s information using them.

Be sure to fill in all your awesome skills, past experiences, and previous jobs. Do not be humble. This is your time to shine!

Here is my finished product on Word. Very easy and it looks professional.

And here is my finished Katniss Everdeen resume all clean and dandy!

Screen Shot 2015-12-02 at 3.02.55 PM

Now, you are done with your resume! Congrats! You probably want to e-mail it to someone, or print it out, OR at least, save it!

Screen Shot 2015-12-02 at 4.01.40 PM

From the button File, this selection pops up. Here, you can choose to Save, Print, and Share. This way, you will have your resume where you want it and can share it to your employer.

I hope this Web tutorial on making a resume using Word helps you create a wonderful resume!

Johnny Obvious Resume

Johnny Obvious

This is for the Character Resume assignment.

Nobody else in the world can tell you the exact situation like Johnny Obvious can.  His unique skill set can benefit… somebody.  Maybe.  Probably.  More than likely he’ll just annoy people.  But you won’t find that in his resume.

So for this assignment I made up the humorous character Johnny Obvious as a caricature of people who tend to point things out that simply don’t need to be.  The points in the resume are intentionally left mostly ambiguous to add to the humor.

I just used Microsoft Word for this assignment.  I set it to 12 point font and double space because I think that makes it more readable.  There’s no set order to the various parts of the resume, since the point is obvious.

Chad Koder

Here is the original assignment.

What a cool guy, Chad Koder.

The man who was born knowing how to develop software. He had never spent a day at school; rather, he spent his time researching online.

He is trying to leave Google to work someplace else; his friends and family have questioned his motives, “why leave one of the best companies?”.

Koder believes he can take over the world and will stop at nothing to become the best there is on Earth!

Here is Chad Koder’s resume.

Process

To create this resume, I used Microsoft Word.

I used a built in template that Microsoft Word provides. To use a template, go to File -> New, then select the Resume category, and then select a template.

Chad Koder Resume

All I had to do was remove fields that I didn’t think were applicable, and add content to the remaining fields.

Finally, I saved the file as a PDF in order to guarantee the visual integrity of the work.

That’s it! Good luck!

Not Looking for Work

Here you’ll find Larry’s Resume. Be sure to not contact him for any type of work or job information. He’s perfectly content living in his mansion.

Thank you for taking the time to view this prestigious resume and Larry looks forward to not receiving your phone call

Hi, I’m Leslie Knope.

(This is a web assignment for a Character Resume worth 3 stars)

Of course my fake resume profile would be Leslie Knope. No Brainer.

To do this, I had to first log out of my own Linkedin because that would’ve been majorly weird. I signed up using another email address I have as Leslie Knope, filled out all of the basics to get my profile up and running, and added a picture. I did a quick google search to find her history and added as much as I could to my profile. I couldn’t get the area to change from Stafford to Indiana (plus, Pawnee does not really have a zip code since it’s not real) but other than that, it should be accurate.

Here it is! Leslie Barbra Knope’s linkedin. (she’ll be the first female president one day so make sure you’re ready)
