How It All Began

For this assignment, the directions are: Create a page on your website that goes into detail how a group came together. Talk about the motives behind joining forces, real or fictional. This can be serious or comedic, have fun!

I decided to tell the story of the Rogue Agents! The Rogue Agents was the name of my radio show group for DS106. My group started with Hannah Duncan reaching out through email to me and another DS106 student. That other student ended up joining another group, so I checked the list of people who still needed a group for the radio show. I found Morgan Roane on the list and immediately emailed her to see if she still needed a group to join.

Luckily, Morgan was down to form a group, so the three of us started emailing, exchanged information, and created a google doc to collaborate.

It took us a week to settle on a name. Coming up with names is hard! I found a website that had a list of spy group names. It wasn’t that helpful but the word “rogue” came up a few times, and I liked it, so I sent out an email and asked the girls how they felt about the name “Rogue Agents.”

Working with these ladies was so painless and such a fun experience. Everyone was down to do their part and we ended up working well with each person’s strengths. I would definitely do another group project with these ladies if given the opportunity.

How it all Began

During the year 2019 a zombie outbreak occurred all across the world, this left the living fighting off the dead. The zombies that are in this world are like that of the Walking Dead zombies, not the Usain Bolt World War Z movies.  During the outbreak over two/thirds of the population was lost, people either died off from the zombies, starvation or other survivors. Over the last year those who survived the initial outbreak began banding together to fight off the dead and the living in attempt to rebuild  and restart society. This is where we meet the leaders of this societal rebuild. For anyone who has ever watched a zombie film or apocalyptic movie, you know that those films usually follow  group of survivors  hell-bent on surviving against all odds. The leader of our group is named Alex, a former lawyer, who uses his quick thinking and intelligence to lead our group through this apocalyptic wasteland. After the outbreak Alex rushed home from his offices trying to get to family, his wife Linda and his son Brian. On his way there he was in a terrible accident that found him being unconscious in his vehicle for several days. When he awoke he was fine only suffering a concussion from the accident. He again rushed home running across the zombie filled city trying to get to his family. On the way they he ran across a homeless man named Mike trying to fight off a group of the undead. Alex being the great person he is jumped in a saved the man and also allowed him to tag along. The two made it back to Alex’s house to find his wife Linda a zombie banging on their sons door, trying to get in. Alex then had to do the toughest thing he had ever done in his life, put down his zombie wife. After doing so Alex, Mike and Brian began making their way out of the city, thinking that it would be safer. The three eventually became surrounded by a herd of zombies near the city lines, thinking that they were about to die the three prepared to fight to the death. Out of nowhere bullets rang through the herd mowing down zombie after zombie. When the gunfire came to an end there was nothing but smoke and blood, they looked to their left to see two woman, Dianna and Heather, holding two AK47’s. The two were former member’s of the army before the world went to hell. The two joined the group bringing the number of survivors to five. The group eventually made it to Canada, where they would eventually setup a community of survivors with the goal of restarting society.

How it began: The New Age of Calradia

So I enjoy a game called Mount and Blade: Warband…

It was in a tavern in Uxkhal, which then belonged to the now former kingdom of Swadia that I met him. I didn’t take much notice of him when he entered, but when he initiated conversation with me, he proved to be more curious and intelligent than I mistook him for. I told him of my dilemma, of how I am an accomplished doctor cast out by my jealous and less skilled superiors at the university of my training and have had to roam the land as a doctor for hire. My tale only grew his interest and he offered me work as the doctor of his warband. I didn’t know what to think at the time. In that age of constant war much as it is now, independent bands of warriors followed the professions of either mercenaries or bandits, neither pleasant, but with little other employment I accepted. He proved to be the captain of mercenaries and bounty hunters, though at the time many of them were little more than peasants with cheap weapons. Many had wounds as well, so I had little in the way of spare time from the beginning. But we grew from and we proved to be a most chivalrous band with a chivalrous captain to match. We soon attracted other skilled members: Alayen, Baheshtur, Bunduk, Deshavi, Firentis, Klethi, and Ymira. This was the beginning of our tale and his, the captain, the lord, the king, the emperor…

How the show began

For 4 (1/2) stars I completed the How It All Began Assignment. I decided to talk about the origins of the radio show group I had been a part of these past two weeks. I went through and created a page dedicated to the members of the show, the shows content, and how the group formed. I also included some of the promotional material we produced as a group. I actually created the assignment as it’s own separate stand alone page on my menu but have replicated it below as well.

THE AGENTS ON AIR

The Agents on Air are a group of radio show hosts who’s show appears on the DS 106 radio network. The show’s hosts consist of Agent Zero, Agent Reveal, Agent Jones, and Agent Fawn. The show’s purpose is to report on ongoing missions that the hosts are currently working on or on missions other fellow agents are completing.  The goal of the radio show is to help out agents who cannot figure out how to best complete tough missions. The show operates as a way to bring the secret agency community together (which can be hard with all the secrets)  it also strives to make connections between the larger community. Another portion of the show is dedicated to agent gossip and news. Reports about mission success, blunders, and team ups help keep the community informed about who to look out for in the secret agent world.

How it all began

The radio host group Agents on Air began only a short while ago this month from a transmission from the DS106 Agents Headquarters. (DS106 Headquarters of course serves as the greater agent hub to connect all agents both freelance and agency committed. It is an organization dedicated to bringing together the secret agency community more generally.) The transmission sent out a call for new radio shows for the longstanding DS106 Radio network. Immediately many agents jumped at the chance to take part in the community and many agents started communicating with one another via the agent networks about potential radio show concepts. Agent Fawn had been mulling through ideas about radio shows and decided to post a bulletin to the agent networks on Twitter full of potential ideas. She was then contacted by Agent Zero who had been looking to form a radio team as well. Agent Zero offered up other interesting concepts and the two decided to team up. Agent Fawn then posted a second bulletin to Twitter now incorporating their pairs team interests. At that point the team was contacted by an Agent Reveal. A trio of radio show hosts was thus formed! At this point the group received a few other potential offers of co-hosts who later decided to work on separate projects. As show ideas were due in the group realized they needed a fourth host to round out the network project, that’s where Agent Jones came in to the picture. Agent Jones rounded out the group and the four hosts set to work on creating their show.

Host Bios*

Agent Fawn

O’Dell started at a clerical job at the Central Intelligence Agency for a number of years, after gaining access to certain key strategic documents her job assignment changed to fit with her new found expertise. She now works with securing and transferring important information for the agency both at home and abroad. Her ability to blend in and remarkable memory skills make her an asset.

Agent Jones

With her husband dead, Kate “The Marksman” Jones’ husband dead, she’s on the hunt to find the killer and make him wish he was dead.

Agent Reveal

Lynn was recruited by the FBI in 1984. At 20, she was able to do things that no other agent was able to. She is a very valued agent that has been able to go under cover for many special ops programs and has come out successful. Agent Reveal is fluent in Arabic and English and has been able to translate Arabic for the FBI for 30 years.

Agent Zero

“Waiting. Like it or not, it’s a skill all spies have to master eventually.” (Note: Little is known about Agent Zero other than their employment by the CID)

*Note: no images of the agents are available as photographs could potentially reveal them to enemy operatives. Promotional Material created by the agents has been used instead to capture their personalities.

How it all began

For this assignment I wanted to take the opportunity to tell the story of the beginning of the Suicide Squad. If you all have not yet seen this movie, go watch it. Is it a masterpiece? No. Is it worth a watch? Absolutely. Anyway, the Suicide Squad is a group of criminals and super villains who are forced to ban together and fight for the good guys when an evil woman hatches a plan to either use them for good deeds or kill them. This woman implants the villains with a detonator in their neck so that if they ever try to run or disobey her she can kill them (at least this is how it goes in the movie, slightly different in the comic book). These villains are forced to team up and take on different missions which is what the comics and movie are focused on. They were all in an extreme maximum security prison when they were banded together, and they were all lied to and told they would be released early if they followed the rules, so its interesting to see how the formation of this group happened on such a similar basis even though they were kept away from each other until they started doing missions together.

“How it ALL began”

So this assignment, is basically offering to tell some more stories, fictional or real…

The goal of this post is to create a blog on your website that goes into detail how a group came together. You have the option to talk about motives behind joining forces, real or fictional. This can be serious or comedic, have fun!

So lets dive in.

It all started in the year 2006, ten years ago precisely. There were three boys who were all like brothers to one another. Marcus, Kendrick, and Mark. These three boys all lived in the same neighborhood. You could call ’em a crew basically. Everything these boys did they did together. They never left each other hanging and you could never ketch them away from each other for a long period of time. In the neighborhood, “Crestwood” was a family. Kids would play all day until the street lights came on, and Mother or Father would yell the names of their children to come inside. Mosquitoes were out, and the sun would set just right that would let the neighborhood know today was a productive, fun day. The ice-cream truck would snooze pass the block at times, and cookouts were always available for friends and family in the neighborhood. Anything outside of Crestwood seemed foreign to Mark, Kendrick, and Marcus. There would be days, when all the three boys did was play video games, laugh and joke about childish things and play tackle football in the backyard of Mark’s house. The three boys grew up into childhood with one another and never went without a day without being loyal to one another..

Years passed, and now “The Crew” had bigger things to brag about. The three boys were in high school and life meant more than just having fun all the time. The crew started to separate by each of the boys attending different high schools. Kendrick moved to Suffolk, Virginia, but Mark and Marcus went to the same high school and stayed living in the neighborhood. Things went completely opposite, as the three boys rarely talked to another and the only relationship that was really solid was Kendrick’s and Mark’s. Marcus did his own thing, being a little bit older than the rest.

Long story short, The three boys now don’t have any communication between each other and haven’t seen each other since high school.

How the Andes Began

I’m applying the four and a half star assignment How It All Began to this webpage. It directs us to detail the conglomeration of a group.

I’ve chosen to describe how the Andean Volcanic Belt, which is composed of the Northern Volcanic Zone, Central Volcanic Zone, and Southern Volcanic Zone, came together.

During the Cambrian Period the Nazca plate started to subduct beneath western South America. This resulted in a continental arc environment known as the Andes Mountains. The Nazca plate’s subduction beneath South America has given birth to three volcanic belts: the Northern, Central, and Southern Volcanic Zones.

The formation of these zones began during the collision of two lithospheric plates. The denser plate, which was the Nazca plate, subducted below the less dense plate. While subducting, the denser plate, which is seafloor, dehydrates over a range of depths up to around 100km releasing aqueous fluids. These fluids are large ion lithophile rich and flow into the overlying mantle wedge, enriching it. Pargasitic amphibole is considered to be the central storage site for water in the hydrated mantle wedge. This mantle wedge is dragged down by the subducting slab where it eventually encounters isotherms which heat it. Being heated, the mantle becomes magma due a depressed melting point derived from hydration. The magma flows upwards becoming more buoyant as crystals fractionate out and decompression melting occurs, furthering its melt content. The extrusion of this magma at the surface of the earth rapidly cools the molten rock. Over time this repeated process created the Andes Mountains.

Part of a test I had a couple weeks ago dealt with continental arc formation. When I read this assignment, the first group to come to mind was the Andes Mountains.

Storytelling Within the Web

From the Spring 2011 ds106 class came the idea of changing up an existing web page to tell a new story ” you will be intervening in the code and design of a website of your choice to tell a story. You are not to photoshop the design of the site, but rather intervene in the actual html and CSS of the site—though you can photoshop particular images on the site. Essentially you alter the content of a web page (content, images) to make it tell a new story.

The Story Behind the Story

So I am on the NPR website all of the time and thought it would be neat to change up the site myself with some crazy and wacky stories.

Narrating the Process

In order to begin with this project I looked at a ds106 student’s tutorial on it. Then I proceeded to add the titles and pictures necessary to change the website as you can see below.

Original Website

Site in the Middle of EditingScreenshot (42)

Here’s a logo I made to replace the NPR one on the newly renovated site, however, it would not upload. I tried as many different ways as possible and for whatever reason, it would not work. But I still wanted to let people see it.

How they Came Together

How it all Began- 4 Stars

Create a page on your website that goes into detail how a group came together. Talk about the motives behind joining forces, real or fictional. This can be serious or comedic, have fun!

This looked like a fun assignment to make up a story of a group people that became friends.

The Work Itself

It was 2011, junior year, in IB Biology class when Mrs. Durkes was assigning lab groups. She made the fatal mistake of putting Roberta, Samantha, Chrissy, and Teeny into a group together. Each girl knew each other from middle school but had never really gotten the chance to actually get to know each other.

So the class went to their assigned lab stations and that’s when it all started. The fours girls had the absolute best time dissecting flowers and mushrooms for science. They were daring each other to eat the mushroom, Robert even ate a piece of the flower. There was no dare too big for her. After class was over, they all walked down to lunch together and made plans to hang out that weekend. The biology girls had no idea what they were getting into.

Roberta, Samantha, Chrissy, and Teeny decided to spend the night in Samantha’s tree house but they didn’t realize that the tree house was haunted. I mean, who had ever head of a haunted tree house? While the girls were lying in their sleeping bags gossiping,  they heard a knock at the door. No one wanted to get up. It was so unexpected and terrifying. Finally Roberta got up because she couldn’t take the suspense anymore and had the constant need to prove how tough she was.

She answered the door. No one was there. The girls had no idea what to do. So naturally, all of them started screaming except for Roberta. Chrissy led the pack into climbing down the tree house as fast as possible and everyone followed. The girls ran inside, closed the door, and locked it. Everyone was trying to make sense of what happened but none of them could. They were all certain that it was a knock at the tree house door and it was definitely not the wind.

They decided to look out the window at the tree house. When they looked, there was shadowy figure of someone standing by the tree house door, knocking. The girls decided to stay up all night because they were just too scared to sleep.

The next morning Samantha begged and pleaded with her mom to tear down the tree house. The girls went home and from then on they were inseparable. With an experience like that, anyone would come close together.

Story Behind the Story

So if you have ever seen the movie “Now and Then” you can tell that I got some of my inspiration from it. I was also inspired by own group of friends. We met in junior year biology but I didn’t use any of our names. I used the names from the movie because I thought they were cute and fun. Also, each character in the movie reminds me a little bit of each of my friends so it just worked out perfectly.

How they All Began

As you can see, there’s a new page on my blog! This is a purely fictional page, with pretty much no real life basis.

This was for the How It All Began web assignment (3 stars), which asked for a new page that described the forming of a group of people. I decided to make a fictional story about a witch meeting with a group of other witches. That’s just something that happens to be on my mind lately, and it seemed like an appropriate thing to write about, with Halloween just a week away.

Creating the page wasn’t too hard, it just involved making the story, and then using the new page function in wordpress.
