For this last assignment, I chose to make a video that represents who I am. To make the video, I chose a template off of TikTok and uploaded 4 photos that I felt gave a look into my life! I chose a photo of all my friends, a photo of my boyfriend, a photo of me and some of my family and a photo of me at the jersey shore! I added background music, using a really fun and upbeat song that I felt kind of matched my personality. The song also reminded me of summer and that is my favorite season!
I uploaded this video to my personal TikTok account and to Vimeo!
For this assignment, I had to make a video montage of places I wanted to travel and add music! I altered the assignment a little so I could also use this video for my final project. Instead of making a video of places I wanted to travel, I made a video of budget friendly places to travel for recent college graduates! I made the video on TikTok as well, and added text, pictures, background music and closing credits. I also added voice to the text so the video reads you the names of the places you can travel!
I chose to make a compilation video from the assignment bank this week. The original assignment said to download videos from YouTube to make the video but I strayed away from that a little so the assignment would better fit for my final project. For my final project I have decided to make a TikTok account for college graduates called “lifeaftercollege2”. I will be making a bunch of videos ranging from interviews, book reviews and other helpful tips. I will be using this weeks assignments as a way to start making some of the videos.
For this video I used TikTok to make a compilation video of book recommendations for recent graduates! I included pictures of the books, summaries and some calming background music. I was also sure to add closing credits at the end that cited where I got all my information. After my video was finished I published it both, the TikTok account and Vimeo.
I did the “Video Poem” 3-star video assignment where I record myself reading a poem out loud and use that as a voiceover for a series of clips or a video that relates to the same theme as the poem. I decided to read a poem about strength. It’s called “Strength” by Mrs. M.A. Kidder. I found the poem here https://www.stresslesscountry.com/strengthpoems.html#:~:text=%2015%20Poems%20About%20Strength%20%201%20Strength%0APoet%3A,the%20brighter%3B%0AIf%20any%20little%20song%20of…%20More%20 . I recorded myself reading the poem using audacity, exported the audio as an mp3 file, and then uploaded it as a media file to Premiere Pro. I used OBS to record a motivational YouTube video that someone else made. The original video is below:
I then uploaded that mp4 file to Premiere Pro as well, muted the original audio, and inserted my audio clip as the new audio for the video. Then when I was done, I exported the file as an mp4 file and uploaded it to YouTube below:
I did the “It’s Vacation Time” 3-star video assignment where I had to create a video showing somewhere I went on vacation. I decided to do the video on the trip I took this past summer to Cancun, Mexico where my family and I saw underground wells, snorkeled with sea turtles at Playa del Carmen in Riviera Maya, took a boat ride to an island, and saw the ruins at Tulum. I uploaded videos I had taken on my iPhone to my computer, and then uploaded them as media files to Adobe Premiere Pro. From there, I just placed them in the order I wanted, added a copyright-free song from the YouTube audio library, and added some transitions from clip to clip. This is what my screen looked like while editing in Premiere Pro for those that don’t know what Premiere Pro looks like:
Adobe does a good job of providing in-app tutorials on how to do just about anything you want!
I did the Chipmunk Style 3 1/2 star video assignment on an episode of The Big Bang Theory. It’s season 10, episode 7, “The Veracity Elasticity.” Although mistakingly, I cited it as season 1 instead of 10 prior to exporting the video file. I did this assignment using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) and Adobe Premiere Pro. I simply recorded a YouTube clip from the episode, uploaded the mp4 file to Premier Pro, changed the pitch as an audio effect, and added an opening title sequence graphic. For context on the episode, I suggest looking at the description of this video below:
Another assignment that I decided I wanted to do was the Discuss a Film Plot assignment. The title of the assignment pretty much describes what the assignment is supposed to entail.
I wanted to put a twist on this assignment a little bit. Instead of doing a film, I decided to cover the documentary that the world is going crazy about right now: Tiger King.
I watched this documentary last week and oh my gosh, it was a wild ride full of unexpected twists and turns.
My favorite podcast is one that covers true crime documentaries and kinda makes fun of how ridiculous some of them are. This is where I got my inspiration.
My hope was that I could explain everything that happens in the 7 hours of Tiger King in a few minutes while bringing up all of the major points. This is something that could be good for people who want to know the plot and not put all of the time into watching it or even for people who have seen it already and understand what I’m talking about.
Because I tried to make the video shorter, there are a lot of plot pieces I skipped, but the video encompasses most of the major points.
I decided to take a different approach this week and use Powerpoint to make a video after seeing it recommended on our assignment page.
I wrote my script, set up what was going to be on each slide, and then went deep diving on the internet. I did a lot of research as to what videos and pictures I was going to use. You can’t record Netflix, so I was watching and pulling a lot of videos from YouTube.
For most of the videos, I edited them in my computer’s editing software and then put them into the powerpoint. I did a lot of trimming, splicing, and audio adding/muting. On the slides that I used just pictures, I would record audio and upload it to the slides.
I then set the transitions and set the timing for each slide so that it could be played on it’s own when exported as a video.
It’s not super smooth, but I think it’s pretty decent for a slideshow. If I had to do it again, I would try to make the slideshow flow better as well as maybe making one audio file and playing it over the entire show. But, I didn’t have the time to do that this week.
I think that I spent at least 7 hours on this project. The assignment itself is only 3 stars, but I’m going to say because of all of the time and effort I put into it that it is the equivalent of 6. So, a little over an hour per star.
Hopefully there aren’t any copyright issues and you are able to view the video. I couldn’t upload it on Vimeo because it exceeded to amount I could upload.
When you hear the word “honor,” what person or character comes to mind? For me, it’s Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender, my childhood show. For some reason, I’ve been going down memory lane a lot lately. As I was looking for another video assignment to do, I went along with Character Description (originally 3 stars, personal effort at 5 stars). However, I wanted to add my own little twist to it.
Have you watched “Learn the Alphabet with _______” videos? That’s where I got the idea to modify this character description assignment. Since Zuko has a lot of iconic lines, I thought that I would use each letter in the alphabet to present as many Zuko lines as possible. In this way, I can present Zako’s character from a unique and unconventional perspective. That said, it turned out to be more tedious than I expected.
My first challenge was finding quotes for each letter, and I eventually had to get a little creative (especially for the letters “v” and “x”). I first searched Zuko videos and went through dozens to find the specific quote I wanted or to listen for anything I could play around with. Some quotes I wanted to use I could not find videos. Even though I have the full DVD set, I did not want to download them onto my laptop because of the lack of storage in my laptop. Of course, I plan on binge watching the show now that I went through all this effort of browsing through videos. But that’s besides the point.
I downloaded a number of videos and trimmed them to get the exact words and phrases I needed, and put them all together. To add on to the silliness of the video, I made the automated speech voice say things like “A is for… B is for…” At the end, I added one of those childhood trap remixes.
Looking at this video again, it’s one of those things you create where you say jokingly, “Wow I hate myself.” Honestly, this is such a gag video, it’s garbage, but I had so much fun with it.
Last week when I chose to do the video assignments rather than the project, I created a list of some assignments to do over the next two weeks. One of them was the 60 second day assignment where you film clips throughout the day to show what you’ve been up to.
I decided to do this assignment on the one day this week that I actually was doing something other than sitting at home – getting my graduation pictures taken!
Now let me just give some background info… my sister has been living with me for 2 weeks now and she was my photographer. We stayed away from people and used sanitizer. Also, my pictures were finished being taken an hour before the stay-at-home mandate for Virginia was ordered. We followed all the rules.
The hardest part about this assignment was remembering to record things. It was particularly hard to record when I was taking my pictures because I didn’t have any free hands. I did manage to get a few campus shots though.
As for the editing, I went straight to iMovie on my phone after all of the issues I had last week. I played around with the transitions and then exported it to my computer. Once the video was on my computer, I put it in my video editing software and added the title card.
I decided not to add any background music to this because I think the audio is not only good, but important. When I was listening to it, there are some sounds that you know right away before you even see the video. I think that leaving this audio gave it more of a natural and realistic feel.
The only issue I ran into this time was that my audio wouldn’t play for the first two times. I had to remove the clip, put it back in, and then not watch it in the editing software and go right to exporting it. That’s the only way I could get it to play.
Check it out and let me know what you think! And also, just as a disclaimer, I am 21 and will be 22 in about a month
For my first video assignment, I chose Discuss A Films Plot (3 stars). However, I did my own twist to it and decided to discuss the plot of a South Korean drama that I had the pleasure of rewatching recently. The drama is none other than Guardian: The Great and Lonely God (2016), more widely known as Goblin. I chose to do this instead of a movie, not only because I wanted to share this amazing story with you all, but also because I couldn’t think of a specific film that I knew the ins and outs of enough to summarize the plot.
Nonetheless, this was quite the endeavor, since it’s a 16-episode drama, with each episode ranging from 1 hour to 1.5 hours! That means there’s a lot of content and little details that I had to skim over. The biggest challenge for me was finding all the clips I wanted without downloading the episodes themselves. I cheated a little by including some compilation videos and the trailer. That said, there were some scenes I wanted to use but could not successfully download, so some cuts and edits may seem out of place or repetitive. My other struggle was balancing the audio, so in some places it’s a little off.
Overall, I enjoyed working on this assignment. There’s definitely more that could be improved on. If I had the battery and storage space–as well as more time–I would download the episodes and find the scenes I’m looking for myself. I would also fix the audio issues. It was a challenge to condense 16 episodes into less than 16 minutes, but hopefully I was able to do it justice and catch some interest among fellow viewers!
