How’ve You Been?

For the “Letter From Out of the Blue” assignment, I decided to write a letter to my good friend and former boss who I know enjoys sending and receiving letters. She likes cats and the color pink, so I themed the letter design around that, and I talked about what I’ve been up to for the last few weeks and asked how she and everyone else at my old job was doing. I’ll likely receive a response in a few weeks, but until then I should probably just text her.

Snail Mail

The assignment Letter From Out of the Blue was the first assignment that I decided to do for this week! I was so excited when I saw that this was one of the assignments that I would be able to do this week. I tend to write letters with a lot of my friends that live far away because I think it such a sweet form of communication. I think communication through texting or other social media platforms can feel impersonal.

I decided that for this assignment I would write a letter to one of my friends, Olivia. I met Olivia this summer while working at a camp. We became very close friend really fast and it has been really sad going back to our normal lives. She lives in Kentucky so I have not seen Olivia since this summer and I decided that she would be perfect to write a letter out of the blue.

I got a cute card, that I already had in my desk and started writing. The letter contain a bunch of me updating her on my life and what has been going on and asking her questions about her life in Kentucky.

I had a lot of fun with this assignment and getting to connect with an old friend!

My Amazing Grandmother

For this assignment, I chose to write my grandmother a letter. She grew up in Texas and has so many amazing stories about her childhood and family. Granny had four children of her own, my mother included. She has nineteen blood grandchildren with a total of twenty-five with spouses and five great grandchildren. Granny’s life has been so fascinating. She has traveled so many places and met so many people. She had to raise her children while her husband was away at war with little to no communication yet somehow she has always stayed positive. This woman is one of the most amazing people I know. And I am extremely blessed to have her as my grandmother.

Mail Call!

Archives

One of the writing assignments I chose to do this week was called “Letter from out of the Blue”. This was a fun one for me because it had been so long since I mailed a letter, much less received something in the mail that wasn’t junk or a bill!

The assignment was to sit down and write out a letter to someone, longhand. Then we had to put it in an envelope, put a stamp on it, and actually mail it via “snail mail”. I chose to write the letter to my little sister even though I can really stop by and see her in person whenever I want. We used to work together but I recently started a new job so I now I don’t see and talk to her at work everyday. As it turns out, I kinda miss the kid!

Here is proof of the letter I wrote to her.

I put it in an envelope, stamped it, and off to the mailbox it went!

In the end, my baby sister loved me enough to even write back ? I thought it was kind’ve funny though because apparently paper is written on so rarely these days, she couldn’t even find lined paper in the house and had to write her letter on computer paper.

Handwritten Letter to a friend

Hey Yuta,

I decided to write a letter to you because I thought you would fit the description of someone I don’t really know. Thank you for talking with me and answering my questions about research, Physics, Japanese, and everything in between. I don’t know what I have done to deserve to talk to such an amazing person. I really believe that it is awesome to talk to great people like you because I can be positively influenced and at the same time, learn. That is the number one thing I love from talking with you—I learn new things. I love the feeling of my brain being activated and inspired. You motivate me to do better and become a better person. I hope I can become a great role model for someone as you have been for me. I am so happy you talked to me. Thank you for being so nice and sorry I bug you too much sometimes. I hope we stay good friends even after you become famous. =)

Letter to Bridget

For this writing assignment I had to write a letter to a friend. I decided to take on the role of my host character. I wrote as if I was Eve Winters and she was writing to her pen-pal Bridget Lloyd.

I decided to write the letter in red because Bridget was locked in an insane asylum for years and her favorite color is red, so I wanted her to see some color when she reads the letter instead of the dull black, white, and gray she has been surrounded by. In case you can’t read my handwriting, because it is awful, the letter reads:

October 22, 2015

Dear Bridget,

Long time, no see. I’m hoping to be able to visit London soon. Let me know what time works best for you. Have you seen your friend, Johanna, lately? I’m sure she misses you. Maybe she can visit you when I do so I can finally meet her. You have told me so much about her. She sounds absolutely marvelous. On another note, my brother is getting worse. He can’t seem to stop killing and skinning people. He is hiding out in my basement for the night because the police are searching his house. I have decided to kick him out in the morning because I don’t want to be associated with his crimes. He showed me his latest mask from a group of teenage girls that he killed a couple of days ago. It was hideous. I wanted to barf because it smelled so bad. He even tried to make a wig out of the blonde girl’s hair. Needless to say he failed and the hair is falling out. I will be cleaning up hair for weeks. I can’t believe I let him stay here. He’s only my half-brother. I should have let him rot like his disgusting masks. He is definitely going to be kicked out in the morning. Anyway, that’s what I’m up to lately. How have you been? What have you been doing lately? Don’t forget to get back to me on when I should come visit you.

Sincerely,

Eve Winters

This assignment was really fun because I got to pretend to be my host character writing to my friend’s host character. It was difficult to think of what to write, so I focused on Eve wanting to visit Bridget and talking about the trouble that her brother has gotten into, since she is directly involved. Overall, this assignment was difficult but allowed me to be creative in my writing.

Letter From Out of the Blue

Sit down and write out a letter longhand to someone who will appreciate it. Put it in an envelope, add an old fashioned postage stamp, and drop it in the mail to your recipient. Be sure to get some evidence of your “snail mail” exchange, either by photographing your letter, or even better still, the reply you got back. Extra internet points if you write it to someone whom you do not know, but still feel a common connection.
